- ColinCampbell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+73It's our duty as men to bury this as quickly as possible.
- stuckinOK06, on 10/12/2007, -4/+69Wear a condom during oral sex? Are you KIDDING me?
First of all, what good will it do if he's wearing a condom while giving me oral sex? haha! - Osjpr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+44Buried as inaccurate. How much of the porn industry have throat cancer? Exactly.
- holzp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36Guess diggers are safe then. Whew.
- Biskino, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32Buried - as totally fu*king depressing.
- ymirscorpse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23How did they manage to find people who don't have oral sex to serve as a control group? I didn't think there were very many people who would be willing to have vaginal sex but not oral sex, but maybe that just says a lot about the part of the country that I am from. But then again, I hear about evangelical Christian teens who adhere to the letter of their "abstinence pledges" by sticking with oral and even anal sex, so I don't know.
- zenpuff, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24This study can suck my dick ;(
- PRION5, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21*****
- mcnappy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17This is the first Digg post that I can't send to my gf.
- Deano3041, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16im not telling her this
- Kenelm, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18I just hope that there won't be a study that comes up saying anal sex can cause rectum cancer...
- indorock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@ dragonexe. It's correlation, not causation. Causation is synonym for causality!

- moofer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10And now, a scene from Clerks:
Dante: how many, how many dicks have you sucked?
Veronica: something like 36?
Dante: 36, is that including me?
Veronica: ummm 37?
Dante: 37 my girlfriend sucked 37 dicks.
Customer: In a row? - Danguard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Damn..... remember the good ol' days when her biggest decision about oral sex was spit or swallow?
- holzp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Burying your comment as inaccurate as well.
- mikesherov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Certainly this should balance it out, no?
Frequent ejaculation may protect against cancer
http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn4861 - williamharper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8What part of the country are YOU from? I'd like to move there.
Sorry for the comment abuse. - xymor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This reminds me of a House scene:
House: Hey, do you have cancer?
Girl drinking mango juice: Hmm, no...
House: What you know? Mango juice prevents cancer! - dragonexe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7When we learn folks causation != causality?
Hell, I'm sure the population of people with multiple oral sex partners might just include more of the risk-taking population that's more prone to doing other things that may actually have more to do with throat cancer, anyone ever think of that? - cababika799, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You know...men for a millenia have been thinking of better ways to make their girls more comfortable doing this...and all of that can be pulled out from underneath us by a couple of scientists who needed to have oral sex explained to them before they could research it.
Buried - as revenge of the nerds. - crazyman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Buried as no one should ever know about this.
- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This also just in: people who buy five lottery tickets are 400% more likely to win than people who buy only one.
People need to chill out. HPV transmission is not news, and is something that people should be careful about anyway. - Mavenshade, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9So let me get this straight...if I've only had 5, then I'm ok?
I'm curious about causation and I would also like to know their margin of error before believing such a story. Just because numbers work statistically, does not mean they truly correlate. Maybe there's a correlation between people with more than five oral partners and use of Altoids, in which case Altoids mixed with various bodily fluids (including HPV) caused the cancer. - WoollyMittens, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Living causes cancer.
- knupso, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8It's the drug companies trying to push the vaccine.
Buried as inaccurate. - pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5wait, so is it the # of partners or the frequency?
- Rabbethan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Veronica must be *****...from what I hear she sucked 37 dicks in a row!
- ximinez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Soooo worth the risk...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Exactly. It's not oral sex that causes it, it's other behaviors.
Which is why this story is *****. - Cerialthriller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ linked
pornstars in the US dont die from STDs.. It is actually safer to bone a pornstar considering they are tested for all STDs every 30 days.. How many peope do you know that get tested that often. I can only think of one aids outbreak ever in porn, and it was because one of the performers had recently done a no condom shoot outside of the country. Pornstars don't generally go out on the street and ***** any guy they see.. They usually have normal lives aside from the fact that they get paid to have sex on film. - Le3f, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3RTFA:
It's the number of partners you need to worry about, not the amount of oral sex.
Millions of BJ's later, your gf will still be fine if you're both HPV free.... - yish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hard to think with a hard on, eh? and some people wonder why there aren't more girl diggers. will all the horny teenage males please take a cold shower before commenting?
>>Mavenshade:
"he study also revealed a link between oral sex and throat cancer caused by HPV. People who had one to five oral-sex partners in their lifetime had approximately a doubled risk of throat cancer compared with those who never engaged in this activity - and those with more than five oral-sex partners had a 250% increased risk."
And please read to the bottom:
"A vaccine against several of the most aggressive strains of HPV linked to cervical cancer received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration in 2006. However the plan to vaccinate adolescent girls with this vaccine developed by Merck, called Gardasil, has received some criticism."
Criticism from who? The freaky abstinence lobby who claimed it would encourage sex. - profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does that include throat cancer from the obvious cause: smoking?
- moofer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This just in from the christian right...
- rabiddogma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm fine with that. Just as long as it doesn't cause dick cancer!
- GeekGrl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2its one of my favorit things to do, so I can't think of a better way to get cancer.. =P
- jasonwert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25 partners? *****, how about Dante's ex-girlfriend?
- shade73, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Population of people that died from throat cancer in the US in 1998:
7965
2/3 were men (so subtract out those)
2629 (rough estimate)...
US Population in the US in 1998
271464000
Which means the whopping percentage of people that get throat cancer from oral sex (rough)
.00000096845
HOLY ***** IT'S AN EPIDEMIC!! - Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@mikesherov (#6614295)
That's about prostate cancer. Only applies to people who talk out of their asses. - onesidedsquare, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4bury before the wives read it!!!!!
- cmfrolick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I really love how they emphasize oral sex by presenting it as a percent and alcohol and tobacco are expressed as multiples.
250% = 2.5x more likely
3x more likely = 300%
i.e. Alcohol and tobacco each are more likely to cause cancer. And all they are saying is more partners increases your chances of encountering HPV, you are not likely to contract HPV if you are in a monogamous relationship. The article even states that people with prior HPV infections are 32 times (3200%) more likely to develop cancer. Sounds like we need to find the other methods of transfer if oral sex alone increases risk marginally, as compared to 3200%.
They are presenting HPV as a cancer causing STD. - kidvicious1973, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Jeez, another excuse for her list. Digg it down quickly, we don't need the Digg affect on this.
- apikoros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The chances of any particular person developing throat cancer are not very high. Multiplying them by 2.5 isn't a huge deal.
- Hockey37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well if you think the sex will kill you, hell, might as well go down swinging.
- dragonexe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1[[@ dragonexe. It's correlation, not causation. Causation is synonym for causality!]]
Thank you, I know that, I don't know why I wrote it twice, lol. - LazyLiberal, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Bury bury bury!!!!!
I love bj's
I always return the favor! - seandfeeney, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Bury this as fast as possible so our girlfriends don't find out!!!
buried as inaccurate! - ziggystardust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Allow me to paraphrase:
"Based on absolutely no hard scientific data, we the people typing this who also happen to be funded by an extreme Christian groupdoes not cause Cancer. And kills puppies."
This is the dumbest thing ever. Burried. -
