- sjl127, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17If digg geeks would get away from programming for a while, they would've known have known this very old news.
- Butmac, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13"What else is new?"
Well, apparently the Snorg Tees girl isn't mentally challenged. She actually chooses to smile that way.
Hmm. Interesting. - TedwardRoberts, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Hooray for fish!
- wonderchemist, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I don't think fish will help with that. Try some Ex-Lax if that's your problem.
- CraigJ, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6In other words, get off your ass, exercise, and eat right. Personally, I've noticed a significant difference in my cholesterol levels and BP with this stuff.
- Hitchhiker90, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Its "So long, and thanks for all the fish"
- foopirata, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Bye, and thanks for all the fish!
- EarlOfLade, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4This is not new.
I read a study that said the same, 27 years ago. - 0crabby0, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I stick my Omega 3 fish oil capsules in the freezer.
Frozen capsules won't give you the "Fishy Burps" like taking room temperature capsules will. - Error601, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I don't think this is old news. Omega-3 has been show to reduce cholesterol buildup in the past but I don't remember a solid linkage to blood pressure.
- StingingNettle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Another reason to legalize hemp!
- Numfar28, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@ahhell
I've been taking it in capsules, which tastes like...well, capsule. So nothing to be afraid of. - caseyparsons, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I've been hearing this for years from my Dr. Mom. She's been writing a diet secrets blog that talks all about that, along with other great weight loss and healthy living tips.
The direct link to her entry about Omega-3 fatty acids is http://www.dietsecretsmd.com/secrets/all-about-fat/fat-burning-omega-3-fats.php.
It might be old news, but it's plenty accurate. Get healthy! - asbest, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2they make your blood thinner as well.
i eat them in 1000 mg + doses Now Foods Super Epa - CraigJ, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yes, eat fish, but, FTA:
"With blood pressure, every millimeter counts. The effect of each nutrient is apparently small but independent, so together they can add up to a substantial impact on blood pressure," said Dr. Hirotsugu Ueshima of Shiga University of Medical Science in Otsu, Japan.
"If you can reduce blood pressure a few millimeters from eating less salt, losing a few pounds, avoiding heavy drinking, eating more vegetables, whole grains and fruits (for their fiber, minerals, vegetable protein and other nutrients) and getting more omega-3 fatty acids, then you've made a big difference," - beatbox32, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I've been doing the same thing since the late 90's and have had similar results. This is good stuff folks, though some may be adverse to the taste... Just mix it in another drink to mask it.
- ahhell, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2What does that flaxseed oil taste like as it sounds disgusting?
- foopirata, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I stand corrected.
- ijacker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3i also hear its the cornerstone of a diet for people with add.
but, alas, i didnt rtfa, as i got it... - staydead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2So once one study shows something we can take satisfaction that our "knowledge" is complete and move on to the next thing?
There's good reasons for studying things over and over. Good thing they do too, there's tons of cases where side effects don't show up until later or in different circumstances. - rlh1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It doesn't matter that it is old news.
If it's good health tips it should be re-issued again since I would bet 50 to 70% of the population doesn't know hat omega-3's are. - 2shae, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2This has been known for a while now hasn't it.
We have food products with added Omega-3 just for that reason. - FoobM, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Haven't we known this for years now? Why did this even show up? But there are a lot of unhealthy people in the world, especially Murrika. Digg for reiteration.
- optigon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The fish O3FA's are long form, while the ones found in Flax Seed oil are short form. For those who are pointing out that they had heard there are differences.
From my understanding, to get a similar effect of fish oils, you need to take an exceptional amount of the flax seed oils to get a similar effect.
However, for those thinking of getting the fish oil pills, I recommend getting a small amount of them up front. I was prescribed the things for a skin condition, bought a 300 pill bottle of them, only to find out the capsules cause my stomach to create gas, so when I took the pills, I would belch something that's akin to low-tide at the pier! - ZeroBurn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Instead of taking tablespoons of fish oil or flaxseed oil, you can just take it in capsule-pill form. Pop a couple pills througout the day and you're set- it's much more convenient in most cases- you can just stick the bottle your desk or in a desk drawer. My friend can't stand the taste of the oil- so he uses the pills as well. You can buy the stuff online, it's really cheap too. There's really no reason NOT to get your daily intake of Omega-3.
- Jonavin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I've heard fish oil works better than flaxseed oil. I eat a lot of nuts and fish myself and have switched to Omega-3 eggs. And like everybody else is saying, "is this news, who didn't already know this"?
- almalax19, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Best source of heart healthy oils.... HEMP SEED OIL!
http://www.ratical.org/renewables/TherapHoil.html
"Hemp oil contains 57% linoleic (LA) and 19% linolenic (LNA) acids, in the three-to-one ratio that matches our nutritional needs. These are the essential fatty acids (EFAs)-so called because the body cannot make them and must get them from external sources. The best sources are oils from freshly ground grains and whole seeds, but EFAs are fragile and quickly lost in processing. EFAs are the building blocks of longer chain fats, such as eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) that occur naturally in the fat of cold-water fish like sardines, mackerel, salmon, bluefish, herring, and, to a lesser extent, tuna." - tack65, on 07/22/2009, -0/+1I'm just starting fish oil! I also use a small amount of dark chocolate to help lower blood pressure.
- mseneschal, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2@ Butmac
That made my friggin day... thank you - SeaMowse, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@0crabby0 - my husband and I do the same thing! We take our Omega-3, frozen. It eliminates the fish burps, for sure!
For the others who say this is 'old news' - that may be true, but the article is based on the findings of the most recent study used, using a specific group of people.
Omega-3 is also good for treating Bipolar disorder, as well as depression and other mental health issues. - flmumb, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2In 10 years they'll discover it causes Penis Cancer.
- DarthTurducken, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1"slightly lower on average"
Which says to me that some ppl's blood pressure actually went UP!
Maybe it has to be fresh fish and not Popeye's - aintthatsomeish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0ok, aintthatsomeish.
- Karyyk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Duh. Herbalists/alternative health-care practitioners have been saying this for how long? But then again, they're the kooks, right?
- msirr2, on 11/27/2007, -0/+0another website abou omega-3 very interesting for the italian readers:

Thanks! - FAT_PIGGY, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2New this since started bodybuilding 5 years ago.

- aintthatsomeish, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Four words: aint that some *****
- nestafett, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Yeah this is not anything new, but anytime I see health news it makes me happy since its probably new news to a whole lot of people out there.
smart balance makes an omega-3 mayo=good stuff - imacashew, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3no no no...it takes a consistant diet of a few servings a week to see the real benefit. You'll need to get your ho's on a schedule.
- imacashew, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Achalemoipas....sooo...you actually took the time to read the synopsis of 5,487 books...doubt it.
Edit: You're point is valid either way, I just hate liars, exaggerators and generalizations. - heythisismyname, on 10/11/2007, -11/+5so all those girls i gave my nut and seed to now have reduced blood pressure and a healthy heart?
