- rancemo, on 03/04/2009, -4/+55Time to ban obesity in public places.
- Takfam, on 03/04/2009, -0/+37This just in: Obesity is bad for your health! More at 11.
- AshleyHuber, on 03/04/2009, -0/+30Well, at least figuratively. Literally, probably not so much.
- MrAwesomeMan, on 03/04/2009, -1/+23More importantly, obese teens are likely to die as virgins.
- Pseudorious, on 03/04/2009, -0/+17We really might be entering an era where life expectancies begin to shrink in the first world.
Now I'm off to research stomach staple makers to invest in. - Pseudorious, on 03/04/2009, -1/+18He was right. It would make very little difference in weight.
- Lucas123, on 03/04/2009, -4/+18When I used to use the excuse that I didn't want to gain weight by quitting smoking, my doctor would tell me no other lifestyle change can increase the quality of your health as kicking cigarettes. So forget about the weight gain, he'd say.

Smoking is a health risk?
Being fat and smoking is STILL a health risk, who knew!? - FishHammer, on 03/04/2009, -1/+11My one step program for weight-loss: Quit eating so ***** much
My two step program for weight-loss: Quit eating so ***** much, and get off your ass and hit the gym once in a while. - Gorgonzola44, on 03/04/2009, -2/+12http://media.southparkstudios.com/img/content/seas ...
LIARS! - avianeddy, on 03/04/2009, -0/+10Smoking burns calories... that's a new one.
Hey Camel and Marlboro, you have a new marketing director! - kalvinb, on 03/04/2009, -3/+12http://quitsmoking.about.com/od/weightgain/a/weigh ...
Smoking cigarettes can burn 200 calories a day. It can suppress your appetite. It can boost your metabolism slightly.
If you increase more than 5-10 lbs within a month or two after quitting smoking you have a new addiction: food. - NightC, on 03/04/2009, -4/+13I have little sympathy for fat people. I know SOME can't help it, but in all honesty, there is a reason why western nations are fatter then the rest, and its because of diet and lack of exercise... To me someone being obese is a good indication of their personallity. If they are too lazy to lose weight or care about themselves what else don't they care about?
Just my opinion. - aks123, on 03/04/2009, -1/+10Not as interesting as the study which found that heavy smokers are as likely to die prematurely as obese teens
- bigsheldy, on 03/04/2009, -0/+9this is bad news for obese smokers
- FishHammer, on 03/05/2009, -1/+10Seriously, losing weight is as simple as cutting your daily calories. It's not ***** rocket science. I lost 10 pounds by eliminating pop and sugary ***** from my diet and sacrificing munchies or maybe one meal a day. It takes time. It's not ignorance, it's first hand experience. Quit throwing the word ignorant around like you know what it means, you stuck up bitch.
- obamaisbiracial, on 03/04/2009, -0/+9good for you. trying is better than giving up before you begin.
- CreamySmooth, on 03/05/2009, -0/+8The only reason people gain weight after they quit is because they dont know what to do with their hands and mouths, so they stuff their faces.
- lokai, on 03/05/2009, -0/+8Hey, man. I wanted to let you in on a big secret. You know that it is FREE to run, walk, ride your bike on the roads, right? Biggest secret they don't want you to know, man. The MAN doesn't want you to get healthy and thin because he knows that you can do it for FREE.
I got a home gym/benchpress with a legpress and a curling bar, some dumbells, and I keep them in my basement. I work out 3x a week for around 20 minutes or so per session and I walk 3x a week for 30 minutes or more. The first time I started doing this I went from 190 pounds (I'm only 5 feet 4 inches tall) to 140 in 5 months.
You really have no excuse man. You don't have to go to the gym 7 days a week for 2 hours a day and buy only organic food to be able to stay healthy. - inferno10, on 03/04/2009, -0/+8Kids, stop smoking hams.
- kalvinb, on 03/05/2009, -0/+7No, pointing out that "gaining weight" because you stopped smoking is an exageration.
You may gain a few pounds but nothing you can't shed easily. 200 calories is less than one and half cans of Coke. It's not hard to cut 200 calories from your diet or burn them doing something more productive.
Smoking is not a diet plan. - FishHammer, on 03/05/2009, -0/+7Have you lost large amounts of weight? Because if not, you're just trying to make excuses for yourself and everyone else that just does not want to put in the effort. Losing weight means instead of having that milkshake, you have water. Instead of that extra cupcake, you have something slightly less delicious.
Maybe you don't have time or money to go to the gym, but you can do a few pushups, or go for a run/walk/jog/crawl around the block. It only takes 20 minutes of exercise a day over a long period of time to get results.
There are plenty of 30+ people that put in the effort to lose weight, and it happened for them. There are also plenty of 30+ people that make excuses for why they're still fat, but DON'T change their diet or exercise. "Wah wah it's my metabolism now excuse me I have to eat a whole pizza"
Again you throw the word ignorance around, when you're the pinnacle of it. Ignorant to how weight loss really works and too bull-headed to accept outside opinions. You're the worst kind of person. - dontreplytome, on 03/04/2009, -0/+7Forget the gym, just take a 20 minute walk 4x a day ... start small.
- CreamySmooth, on 03/05/2009, -4/+11Im an Obesist as well. When I see someone fat, I automatically lose alot of respect for them, and dont take em seriously. Its disgusting and repulsive to me. I have to take transit in the morning, and when the bus is full, and I cant get a seat at 5:30 in the morning because one Fatass is taking up two seats, it really pisses me off. ***** fatties.
- inactive, on 03/04/2009, -0/+7Now if you'll excuse me, there's someone I need to get in touch with and forgive: myself.
- FishHammer, on 03/04/2009, -0/+7what
- MechaFalcon, on 03/05/2009, -0/+6Oh but you can go cold turkey with food. Goes great on bread with lettuce and other stuff.
- Hetman, on 03/04/2009, -1/+7Obese smoker is just not an attractive look for anyone. That is a good enough reason to start losing weight and stop smoking.
- mishabear, on 03/04/2009, -3/+9And your parents should be charged with abuse for making you stupid.
- bcamp1973, on 03/04/2009, -0/+6ya, but did you become morbidly obese? there's a difference between packing on a couple pounds and being so fat you break a sweat on a short flight of stairs...
- Chaoticfist, on 03/04/2009, -1/+7Well i am trying to lose weight but dam i just wish it was as easy to lose weight as it is to sit at the computer and play games and put weight on :(. But i have been hiting the gym for about 1 month, but the last 2 weeks i have been sick, so well no gym:( i am getting better and plan on making sunday my first day back at the gym.
I am hopng to lose about 30 pounds. Right not i am sitting at 215 and want to hit 185. Sort of hoping to lose that by september. - VotePaul, on 03/05/2009, -0/+6This is laying the groundwork for taxes on sugar, fat, hi carb junk food.
- jacksontollock, on 03/05/2009, -0/+5I just know one of my friends who is morbidly obese claims it isn't his fault, yet he drinks 6 Pepsi cans a day and eats stuff like oreos for breakfast.
- trucanadian, on 03/04/2009, -0/+5natural selection at it's finest
- d3dm, on 03/04/2009, -1/+6You need a McD's Happy Meal!
- shnarf, on 03/04/2009, -0/+5just dont eat everything that crosses your path.
or maybe start smoking. - geoboy, on 03/04/2009, -1/+6The answer is that it's never too late. You can in fact add years back to your life just by quitting smoking or losing weight, whether you're 20 years old or whether you're 60. It doesn't matter. Just go for it. You'll feel much better about yourself, and you certainly will live longer and happier. As cliche as the saying is, today really is the first day of the rest of your life. Since you can't change the past, you might as well start living for the future.
- mishabear, on 03/04/2009, -2/+7"fit smokers" is an oxymoron.
- Whaines, on 03/04/2009, -0/+5Well, it does make it hard to dodge trains.
- inactive, on 03/04/2009, -1/+5are you a smoker?
- TheDHC, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4Fatties go up in smoke
- pingveno, on 03/05/2009, -0/+4And that is why I bike to work. :)
- bcamp1973, on 03/04/2009, -6/+10if your child is obese you should face charges for child endangerment or flat out abuse.
- inactive, on 03/05/2009, -0/+4I went on a diet at age 35 and lost 12 pounds in amonth and cut 4% off my body fat. And I was not that heavy to begin with.
Didn't pay for a gym membership, andhad obligations like anyone else. And I did it in the middle of a cold winter, so no easy outdoor activities to help me. Did it all with simple exercises that can be done in my apartment.
To call it impossible is asinine. - mishabear, on 03/04/2009, -1/+5was. with smoking you can stop after about 21 days of not smoking. It's rough but it's doable. You don't "lose your weight" after 21 days. It's a serious lifestyle change.
- MechaFalcon, on 03/05/2009, -0/+4My 54-year-old father found out he was a type-2 diabetic 2 years ago, started cycling and has since lost over 20 pounds and is currently riding 30+ miles daily. He works his ass off in and out of his workplace, don't give anybody this "you don't know what it's like!" *****, it's possible.
- polexia, on 03/05/2009, -0/+4Does that mean we can suspend fat kids from school now?
- FishHammer, on 03/05/2009, -0/+4Well, for serious obesity cases (the 3-500 pound people) I think it's almost a psychological issue. Like you said it's a crutch for other emotional issues. They don't want to lose the weight because eating makes them feel better. Those cases probably need some kind of counseling. But for your basic overweight guy (anywhere between 25-100 pounds overweight) the best route is just diet and excercise.
