- Murdats, on 05/16/2008, -0/+9wii fit has a snowboarding game in it.
- PueSi, on 05/16/2008, -1/+9That's weird, i could see the article with no problem.
- enicholas, on 05/16/2008, -0/+7Pure unmitigated *****.
No, Wii Fit is no substitute for going to the gym, and if you're the type of person that can manage to work out five days a week this isn't going to help you. But there's already a fitness program that works for people like you -- keep going to the gym, and you can continue to be all smug about it.
For those of us that have kids, work long hours, and find that we simply can't manage to make it to the gym anymore, this could mean an hour a night of moderate exercise instead of an hour a night of sitting on our asses watching TV. And if you really believe that that will have "an insignificant, if not zero impact on your overall health, fitness, and appearance" then you are deluding yourself.
Obviously this will only work if you keep at it, and using it for a week and then putting it in the closet won't help. But that's just as true of a gym membership. - JayKeaton, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5It has already been proven that Wii Fit makes a difference.
And the most obvious use of Wii Fit is to keep track of your fitness level, speed, balance, weight, BMI, reaction times and stuff. At worst the Wii Fit is the worlds best set of scales, at best the Wii Fit is the ultimate fitness device that will revolutionize the world. I think the truth lies somewhere in between the two, which is still a very good score for Wii Fit health wise. - arobar, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5What kind of "personal trainer" and "fitness enthusiast" can say that any exercise will have "zero impact on your overall health, fitness, and appearance"? If I sit at home and watch TV for an hour, versus performing these exercises for an hour, no matter how small they are, that's a BIG impact. Do that every day and the impact becomes huge.
- zenoz, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5"It’s like an interactive exercise game."
- Really? - arobar, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4I'm in Canada and didn't have to register. Also, just use bugmenot.com if you don't want to register for sites.
- orenshk, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4Man that is so 90s.
- roosterjack, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Wii really rocks...and now it burns fats too.
- pault107, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Unfortunately, I never exercise, I know I should but I don't. Whenever I go around my brothers house he busts out the Wii and we usually end up playing Wii sports. My muscles are usually aching for a couple of days after because I've been using muscles that aren't used to being used.
So, for people like me, how can you say that Wii Fit will have no effect? I believe you're just scared that business will slow down for you on the release of Wii Fit. Which it won't. If anything it will increase as couch potatoes get interested in getting fit and once done with Wii Fit they will look for the 'real thing'. - AcousticBoom, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3NO need for WHEN to be capitalized
- jjustice, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3This was a pretty good approach to a review - have people with very different life circumstances try it out. You wouldn't need that for a Halo 3 review, but for Wii Fit, it's perfect. Impressive, Times!
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Apparently CDoug03 uses a browser that nobody else has.
- TekTrixter, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2user: regdie
pass: regdie - CDoug03, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Because the NY Times only frees up an article to read without registration after so many fruitless hits, caused by a little known occurance called the Digg effect.
- ross., on 05/16/2008, -1/+3We Ski is already available and works with the balance board.

- fishbeef33, on 05/16/2008, -2/+4Wh-wh-what?! A "game" that doesn't involve shooting unarmed civilians or screwing hookers? A "game" that isn't directly marketed to the testosterone-filled teenager/20yr old male crowd? How dare they!
I've heard a lot of people put Wii Fit down, and I think it's the same kind of mentality that makes one person buy a Hummer and another person a Toyota Prius. Don't worry, boys, they won't stop making your FPS games just because an exercise game became popular.
Man, I can't wait to use We Ski with the balance board. Have you seen the price of a lift ticket lately? - chadisawesome, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2I plan on getting it. I used to go to the gym 4 times a week, but now with work and home ownership, I barely have time to take a dump 4 times a week. At 8 o clock when I'm finally finished my routine, instead of sitting down and watching terrible TV, I can move around a bit for an hour or so. Nothing BAD can come of that.
- Zippo, on 05/16/2008, -3/+5Someone totally needs to make a snowboarding game for the Wii. The Wii Fit pad would be perfect for it.
- domataos, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3I was hoping this was going to be about airbenders :(
- actionscripted, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2I'd prefer to see various gamer types take-up games and review them. That way instead of one reviewer saying, "Halo 3 Owns Yo Mamma" I can read, "The mid-20's adventure gamer was amazed such a boring FPS could succeed just for being one of the only solid options on a console."
- NeverReturnKid, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2DDR is just a game too and has no impact on one's health.
- tensaibaka, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1or he could be outside of the US using Firefox like I am, but still can't see the article without registering. Thanks to TekTrixter below for the user id and pass though, even though it says you still have to accept cookies....
- umbrellainabin, on 05/16/2008, -3/+4Snowboard Kids Wii PPPPLLLLLLEEEEEAAAAASSSSSEEEEEE
one of the best games ever on the n64 but then they ruined it with snowboard kids ds. - JayKeaton, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1+1 digg to your post for the truth, brother. Digging sites that require you to sign up to read are annoying. Thousands of people will see that "you need to join to read" thing, like a thousand voices crying out in pain and then suddenly silenced :(
- Zippo, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2Well then, disregard what I said.
- ross., on 05/16/2008, -1/+2-
- pault107, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Well, it looks like you won't listen to anyone. Ignorance is bliss. I'm not going to buy Wii Fit, but I know for a fact every time I play on the Wii I use muscles that I wouldn't have used otherwise. I'm happy with that.
- actionscripted, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Welcome to Exercise 2.0...?
- drunkclam, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1skate it is coming out, and it lets you use the wii fit board to control a skateboard.
- LG27, on 09/26/2008, -0/+0i love the wii. it is sooo much fun. when we first got it i was sooo sore after playing it the first few times. we also got wii fit. its pretty cool too.
http://www.bodytune.com - jbatad, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0Of course it's not going to help burn calories. But who cares. It's cool.
- sh4rkb1t3, on 05/16/2008, -6/+4As a full-time personal trainer and fitness enthusiast, I can tell you with complete confidence that Wii Fit will have an insignificant, if not zero impact on your overall health, fitness, and appearance. The only way it could help is by getting people more interested in physical fitness, sort of like a "gateway drug."
Lets face it: Wii Fit is a video game. It's not an exercise machine. Anyone believing otherwise is sadly misinformed. The fastest and cheapest way for the average person to make improvements to their body is to do 20-60 minutes a day of cardio and to eat fewer calories per day. - sh4rkb1t3, on 05/16/2008, -3/+1@enicholas: Trust me, Wii Fit is not the magical easy way of becoming fit without doing NORMAL exercise and eating healthily. YOU are the one deluding yourself if you think otherwise. If you want to get fit without going to the gym, run around the block for 20 minutes, the same length of time you would PRESUMABLY play Wii Fit. That will be around 10 times better for you than playing this VIDEO GAME.
@arobar: You seem to not understand how exercising works, go figure, the average person on this site is a pale fat nerd. There is a certain threshold of effort you have to put into your program to see any results. Wii Fit does not exceed that effort threshold. Also, how long are you going to be playing Wii Fit instead of watching TV? Eventually you will get bored of the game, stop playing, and lose anything that you would have gained IF THE GAME WORKED.
@JayKeaton: Maybe it proved to make "newbie gains," which aren't gains at all, just the trainee happening to push himself a little harder by chance and breaking his previous half-assed record. The trainee didn't actually improve his max output, he just pushed himself harder.
@pault107: The release of this game will not have a measurable impact on my career. But why would I be afraid of the game in the first place? People are going to buy this game, realise it doesn't work, then come to me to get results. And thank you for repeating what I said in my original post. - hadak, on 05/16/2008, -8/+3Oh damn, the new comment system. Why hello thar.
