stvspl is not a name
its two letters with a bunch of ***** inside - baerga, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28i hear you, aardvaroo. it's a tough call...you don't want to see a kid hurt...but the rise of childhood type II diabetes already should have elevated this issue to a national emergency. thanks for your post.
- kcap122, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20@chriskzoo: lol.
little kids dont really know much about nutrition, its up to the parents to make sure they dont raise a beach ball. IF you leave your dog home for a day with a whole bag of dog food, he'll probably eat til he pops, and if you leave a kid who likes food ( what kid doesn't) home alone with bags of doritos, u can be damn sure he'll eat em all too.
parents = n00bs. - taintparty, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Self esteem is something you build about yourself from good things. A fat kid should feel self conscious and WANT to change. Accepting and coddling kids that have problems just helps them feel like you're wrong when you say "hey kid, you could stand to lose some weight."
Eric Cartman was written to be this exact child, the fat kid with loads of false self confidence that everyone laughs at behind their back and to their face that just don't believe they're wrong. These are the same idiots on American Idol making fools of themselves by singing the best they can because mom and dad told them they were really good. Then they go cry about how mean those perfectly reasonable judges were.
The world is harsh, let them learn this at a young age, it's much less crushing than finally going to college or that first job and finding out you're fat and stupid and no one likes you other than mom. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Just think of how many poor, starving people those fat people could feed!!!

Well, you obviously didn't RTFA. - crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Im the thinnest now at 180 lbs than I ever have been.
I was at 275.. looked in the mirrior and said "wtf am I doing.."
Now I go the gym like everyday, and eat really well.
All it took was for me to realize it.
People made fun of me all the time, I didn't really care. My parents told me to lose weight, that made me fatter (I'll do what I want, when I want).
The more people told me to, the less I wanted to.
Everyone is different in life, some people need a push, some people need to not be pushed.
If you're a parent, you should know your kid, and what he/she needs to get better. Instead of telling them to go outside, go outside WITH THEM. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19the best way to make many people do NOT do what you say is to confront them without respect.

- waxoff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Fat, Drunk, and Stupid are no way to go through life son.
- xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I've an 11 year old cousin that must weigh 180lbs+ The kid does not stop eating. He sneaks food behind his parents' backs, eats buttered bread for a snack, takes three or more snacks to school with his lunch and his mother does not say a word about how fat he is. It's always, "You don't need that," or "You already ate." He walks around shirtless sometimes, like he has no shame about his weight or body. I was a little chubby when I was his age and I dare not take my shirt off in public. He goes to a private school, so he hasn't really been taunted for his weight. I don't think he realizes how fat he is, because no one tells him. The kid lives in a bubble. The other kids in his class are just beginning to start teasing him about it, and it's definitely going to get worse as they get older. Parents need to awakened to the fact that their kids are fat as hell. I don't care how insulted they are. Their kids are going to get it 100x worse, if they don't do something about it.
- kelbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@masamunecryus
You are 100% correct. Slim or normal people who do nothing to maintain their weight should STFU because they don't know ***** about being healthy. To be fat person trying to be normal means that you eat LESS than what you want to eat. This means you must maintain a minimum level of hunger for life. This sucks, but to put it in perspective, you could be worse off, struggling trying to maintain a minimum level of eating to survive.
But the end result is still the same. A fatass who works harder than normal-size people is still a fatass. Though he may not deserve the derision for being lazy and hopeless, he will still be seen that way until he stops being fat. Tough *****, life is hard. /Excuses don't get results, results get results/, and there is no way around that. If you're not fat and you're reading this, just lay off the fat people because you don't know wtf you're talking about. If you're fat and reading this, recognize that life is hard and complaining doesn't help, let the frustration, humiliation, and anger fuel your effort. You're subhuman and you will just have to work harder to prove your worth. Other people have to deal with worse. - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Well you have to remember most parents are afraid of letting there kids go outside nowadays. They also work 12 hour shifts every day, so their kids are left alone after school.
I remember my childhood, actually, and it went something like this: School time: Went to school, came home, watched TV, wasn't allowed outside because would be murdered/kidnapped/mugged/etc.
Summer time: Sat home, had no friends or anyone to even talk to, watched TV, played computer games, wasn't allowed to go outside and play because of how dangerous it was.
It's not just the food, it's also part of our fear culture. Kids just aren't allowed to go out and do anything anymore. I mean hell, I'm 22 and my parents ~still~ freak out and get upset if they find out I go out alone without friends. Problem is, I never even made friends. After highschool I wasn't able to afford college so all of my social opportunities were destroyed. - jcapogna, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8A lot of fat kids seem to have fat parents who are unlikely to care about the message.
- merdiesel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9What it should be...

I couldn't help it... - samadam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8To get the parents angry enough about the potential for harm of their children (diabetes, heart disease, peer pressure) that they do something about it.
- meepus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8It's not okay to be obese. It's not okay to victimize someone and mock them for being obese, but at the same time, we shouldn't encourage people to engage in unhealthy lifestyles--something that obesity is a consequence of. At the same time, the choice to be obese should remain... it preserves natural selection.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's a glandular problem.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I saw one of these the other day, and was a little shocked at first.
But when you think about it, it makes sense! Parents should look into helping their kids become healthier.

Damn health freaks! - AriaStar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6In San Francisco a few weeks ago I saw a bus with two ads on one side of it. The first ad was warning about childhood obesity. The other ad was for the dollar menu at McDonald's.
The problem isn't food. People used to eat much more, and what they ate was higher in fat and calories. But they also exercised. You can eat McDonald's and other "bad" foods as long as you balance it with exercise and aren't eating it like it's going to make you rich.
This is an issue that needs to get out of the shadows. And it's really the parents who should be ashamed for not teaching their children to make proper food choices and for deciding to give their kids candy to reward them or to chut them up and not making their kids go outside and play. - OdinsFury, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5A good number of adults in America cannot eat healthy. How can we expect the same people to help their kids?
- woodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Security Guard: You're not a shoplifter. You're just a fat kid. Sorry about that, Fatty Fat Fatty. Hey, Tom, he's just a fat kid! Aren't you, Fatty? You're just a big old fat kid. Here's some chocolate, Fatso.

Nice one, waxoff. - superal1394, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6oh boo hoo. I've been called everything from Aladdin to Sand N****r for being Arab. Parents these days have thinner skins than kids.
@geometry:
Amen to that, when the food in schools looks like it has more grease than a deep fryer, we have a problem - bmwboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It would help if the schools served healthy food, on one given day at my school we have 3 fried foods, and rarely is anything on the menu remotely healthy...
- UltimaNut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4*boom*
It was the salmon mousse. - yellowbug, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5What they really need to do is actually make good food affordable....
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9This is the type of ad that creates eating disorders, seriously.
Eating less is not the answer. You NEED to eat in order to lose weight.
You just need to eat the right things. That means mostly vegetables, and then a small bit of meat for dinner. If you stop eating, like most people think is the "answer", it's causes serious health problems. Trust me, I've seen it. - lastknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Absolutely NOT.
Jesus, it's NOT how much you eat, but WHAT you eat... Have you ever considered why Europeans are far less obese? That's mainly because organic food is STILL a good percentage of the overall quantity of food consumption.
You can eat as much as you want... Try eat salad. And I told SALAD, not that greasy buttered thing. Just salad. A little olive oil (no more than a teaspoon) and some vinegar. That's what a salad is in ALL THE WORLD EXCEPT USA...
Eat as you wish, eat things that WILL ROT IN A WEEK (if it's still alive/whole throw it away) and DO NOT use sauces, margarine, butter and so on. A little (no more than 2 spoons a day) olive oil and that's all. And I lost 10kg (do the conversion ;)) in less than 3 months. Without any kind of appetite left or damn suppressors...
My 2 cents.. - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Here's a quick dieting tip: try to go a week without eating anything that has an expiration date of more than a month beyond today. I think you'll find that you will eat much healthier.
- geometry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5What about Anti-Tobacco ads? They say that if I start smoking I'll die of lung cancer.
Anti-Marijuana ads? If I smoke a bowl of pot I'll be shooting heroin in two months.
So an Anti-Obesity ad comes out that says if you're overweight you'll get diabetes, not such a stretch. You and I know that it's not 100% but it does greatly increase the probability.
We need to stop pussy footing around the issue. Why should the obese be treated any different then drug addicts or alcoholics? Obesity has a physiological aspect to it such as the other problems and it's a self destructive problem. It's also bad for our society as a whole. Obesity costs our nation more than the other problems, is passed on to children at a young age and KILLS. - Userfaulty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Its not glandular..its called Big Boned Disorder.
Seriously though its the parents responsibility to ensure their child has the proper nutrition and eating habits. However one of the causes of obesity is also that fact that probably both or the lone parent are not home to regulate the eating habits. The american diet is all about snacks and crap food. Its not just the parents its also the manufacturers/market. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4well the world obviously revolves around you, so we'll all mark this as inaccurate.
- axel2k1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Set aside the health problems for one minute and think about this. People are saying it's ok to do this now, so that later in life they won't be teased. One contributing factor is society's reaction to overweight people.
Now, I'm not saying that there's anything inherently "good" about being overweight. What I am saying, though, is that our society hates fat people, and being fat is more unacceptable than being a member of any other minority group. Look at movies like "The Nutty Professor." The main character is black, but fat. What does he want to change? The fact that he's overweight.
Even inherently "ugly" people who are thin are more well-respected.
I will admit that much of the obesity problem in the US is due to sedentary lifestyle and diet choices and many people who have disgust for fat people use the guise of it being unhealthy. So is smoking, so is so is alcohol use, so is unprotected sex, so are a lot of things. When it comes to those other items, people aren't nearly as ready to dismiss the person as having little value. Part (I DIDN'T SAY ALL) of the reason that being overweight is so "unhealthy" is because medical professionals are more likely to attribute and health concern to the weight of an overweight individual. Being overweight also causes people to be more embarrassed about getting a regular checkup, for fear of being ridiculed over being obese.
There are lots of people out there who try their damnedest to lose weight. 98% of the time they fail. Only 2% of the time do significantly overweight people actually keep the weight off for over a year.
I'll likely get buried for my comment, since it doesn't go with the flow of the "fat people are disgusting and bad" attitude, but I felt that this needed to be mentioned as this perspective is often ignored. - gabraham, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I don't know why people dugg you down. You made a perfectly legitimate point on the observation of U.S. culture.
It's true, folks; The U.S. eats more than what we all know a good sized "portion" should be (considering the average caloric diet of the average U.S. citizen). - haggie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Better ad: "If your kid is fat, you are probably a.) a poor parent b.) an idiot c.) low income d.) all the above. Fix one or more before you ruin your kid's life. Who knows? It might even improve your own."
