Doc: What do you do while sitting around the house?
Me: Watch porno's and eat Cheeto's - catalystmotive, on 01/15/2009, -2/+11hey i don't need this, i already have people who come to my house and tell me to do a buncha drugs to make me feel better

- adiggityam, on 01/17/2009, -0/+5Thought this was going to be about my non-existent health care...
- WanderOn, on 01/17/2009, -1/+6Doc, I erm.... think I have Glaucoma, can you help me out with a prescription?
- Chaoticfist, on 01/17/2009, -2/+7i dont understand this, " i am going to the doctor because i have a cold, or a sore throat" crap. Really tough it out, grab some over the counter stuff for the sore throat, and clean ur house, wiping down your computer and other stuff for cold. Unless i know i have a chest infection where i know i need pills, i will not see a doctor.
Btw i live in Canada, and its not because i might have to wait 40 mins to see the doc, its because why waste the docs time with something you can treat on your own. - Barackalypse, on 01/17/2009, -3/+7Sore throat? No problems, here's some anti-biotics, we won't bother with a throat culture or anything, its not like we've got a problem with antibiotic resistance strains or anything. And heck, the antibiotics might upset your stomach, so just stop taking them when you feel better!
- soulonfire928, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3At the costs of those ***** things, you bet your ass I'll still go to the doctor. Maybe it's worthwhile if you don't have insurance or have lousy insurance-I don't know the full out-of-pocket costs for a doctor appointment.
But I see my doctor for $10 a visit, and they're suggesting "appointments" at $45 for 5 minutes? *****.
I think that alone is still going to deter a lot of people. - lordjeebus, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3Not to mention rheumatic fever from untreated strep throat
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rheumatic_fever - tdogg241, on 01/17/2009, -1/+3If that sore throat turns out to be strep, you definitely want to get some antibiotics, because that ***** is VERY contagious. The antibiotics won't help you get better any quicker, but it'll keep you from getting everyone around you sick.
- SheilaNoya, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2Get naked and stand near your kitchen counter. Place a cinder block on the counter and tie one end of a strong cord to the cinder block. Tie the other end to the tip of your penis, leaving about 20 inches of slack in the cord.
Now pick up the cinder block and step away from the counter. Close your eyes and DROP the cinder block.
That should do it. - puter, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2Thanks, I was going to say this if someone else didn't.
Seriously, handing out antibiotics without actually checking for an infection?
he should lose his license - gordigor, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2I think I will stay in touch with my doctor in person
- kat81, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1Not that anyone has been willing to study it, but I'm actually immune to strep. Always have been. And I get an infection of some sort a few times a month (right now I have a few wound infections, and lingering ear/sinus infection). I have a horrible immune system and other issues, but I am somehow unable to get strep.
And yes, I have been able to prove it. I actually tried to get strep (hey, ice cream and no school!) and I never could, yet everyone else in the house got it. Except my dad. He is also immune to strep. He had the ***** immune system like I do, but had also never had strep.
I just felt like sharing this info :) I might get sick with everything else out there, but I can never get sick from strep :) (well, there are different kinds of the strep bacteria - the common throat ones, and others - I actually do have group-b strep, but that is a kind that doesn't infect the throat and you can always 'have it' and it randomly can colonize and makes you sick).
One day I shall be rich - and everyone will bow to me for being the source of the strep vaccine! - tdogg241, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1That's what I thought the focus of the article would be.
- venuspcs, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1Well send them (and the drugs) over to my house.
- NoLibertarians, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1Smash it with a hammer and it should swell up in no time. If the swelling doesn't go down in 4 hours see a Doctor.
- ryeno, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1differently would change the whole dynamic of a physical.
- fprintf, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1I won't go see the Doctor in 2009 anyway. I have health insurance, but I have one of these new fangled consumer directed health plans, aka HSA, where I have to pay out of a special savings account to see him. I know the money is there for this kind of stuff, but I want to save it just in case an emergency comes up.
The thing is, the health insurance industry are all patting themselves on the back about how they are saving employers money, and how people are still getting the preventive care they need. *****. -10% medical trend for these plans vs. 5-6% versus regular plans means that something is fundamentally different and I bet it is the deferral of care, some of which is inappropriate (most?!?) that is driving the difference. If you don't have a CDHP from your employer in the U.S. now, you will soon... - tsproule, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1With the rising costs of health care, I shy away from seeing a doctor, even when I probably should. That's not good. If remote conferencing with doctors helps to drive down costs, so people are more willing to have that first consultation, I think it is a good thing. It won't initially replace any visits that require testing, but that will eventually change as devices will be created which allow remote monitoring of heart rate, pulse, etc. from home (though there will of course be more extensive tests which we will never attempt to do remotely - I hope!)
When I have computer problems, my phone calls get routed to someone in India. Would I be willing to get a 'teleconference' consultation with a doctor in India? Especially if it only cost me $10-20? Absolutely! Is this another example of American jobs being lost overseas? Could be! But if America loses jobs to more competitive countries because we are too greedy or over-regulated, that's okay with me. - onthetrail, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1not funny
- dzhastin, on 01/17/2009, -1/+2Who at CNN is pushing the hologram agenda? First that crap on election night and now this? There's a ten year-old boy loose in the news room and his ideas are somehow making it on the air.
- vgnezdilov, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1Drive through doctors in '10. Take that '09!
- ttam, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1that's all we need, an easier way to push more unnecessary drugs

- austinscastle, on 01/17/2009, -1/+1never knew doctors were handing out scripts over the internet now. sign me up.
- TheWindBlows, on 01/17/2009, -2/+1Do they use their own special IM or do they use something like Skype?
- Barackalypse, on 01/17/2009, -2/+1Yeah, actually I will, because I didn't see one in 2007 or 2008 and they recommend a checkup every 3 years.
- leontes, on 01/17/2009, -3/+1I wonder if one could do this for individual therapy. I tend to believe that so much about therapeutic interaction necessitates person to person contact, but maybe computerized contact will become too ridiculously easy for people. Convenience may trump esoteric objections to the idea.
I guess I'd be open to trying it, at least for maintenance. We already do some phone calls and interactions with clients and that works because it's relationship which is the most important piece, I think. I don't know: like any other approach I guess it is based on the need of the client rather than the need of the therapist.
I'd like to believe there is something about being the presence of compassiona and empathy that is transformative: but I guess those kinds of things can also be done online. - inactive, on 01/17/2009, -4/+1I want to increase the size of my penis. Someone on digg assist me.
