- kazamx, on 10/22/2007, -3/+35Nuts I got all excited about this. I was thinking of the WINE project on linux though :-(
A series of videos talking me through exactly what to do with WINE would have been great. Oh well as least I know a little bit more about the fermented grapes version of wine now - cyberpope, on 10/10/2007, -6/+28Awww, I thought this was going to be a guide to Wine on linux :/
- FTBoomer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Everyone has to start somewhere and this is as good as it gets.
- Gryffydd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Damn it, what a letdown.
- lazyrussian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8You know what this says about the majority of diggers?
....sadly I thought the same thing and got excited as well.... - Bandito, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Vayniac on board!!
Awesome show. WLTV rocks. Not only does Gary know his stuff, but he's embraced the web community and, like digg... bringing it to the people. - philmcgarr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8WLTV is the best video available for learning about wine. Gary knows his stuff and gives it to you without pretension. Props to the Vayniacs!
- YouandWhoseArmy, on 10/22/2007, -1/+7Haha I was totally like, "Yes! Another Linux guide for me to bookmark for when I make the switch!" Then I went there and had the same reaction, "Oh, THAT type of wine..." Dugg up for tricking us all!
(Also Little Penguin Shiraz is unbelievably delicious for less than 10 bucks) - Th3_anOmoLy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Vay-ner-chuk!
- shredswithpiks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+41) install WINE
2) install windows software package
3) see if it works
3) b) if it doesn't work, wait for the next update to WINE and repeat.
pretty much all you need to know... - trump48257, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yea. I didn't even consider the fact that it could actually be about that lovely fermented beverage...my brain went straight to windows emulation. Was glad to see it though:)
- mikehill33, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3cigar and dirt-eating optional!
- psxman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Or here:
http://www.google.com/linux - ISIfunded911, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2If you are really sad I can shoot a video of my screen showing how to select the wine deb in aptitude, and how to click on an *.exe. :-)
- trump48257, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1(and before anyone bugs me I do know wine is not technically an emulator) :)
- brianboyko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If I wanted to know about culture and fine wine, I wouldn't be on the internet, sipping diet mountain dew.
- tdillo, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1DAMN! You got me! I too thought this was about WINE not Wine. LOL!
- ropers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Am I the only guy who thought this was about the software until I watched the first video?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine_%28software%29 - ijustfloat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No. But you're definitely a guy who didn't read the comments before commenting. I mean geez, it's the first ***** comment, how hard could it be to miss?
- kavaliro, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Note to Submitter: if you mean alcoholic wine, then notice the lower case, esp. on a tech news site. eh?
Feel free to post to a culinary site with caps, though. - postitnote, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wine is a potent potable.
- Toupee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was this guy on Conan and thought he was crazy but hilarious. I've since watched three or four of his shows and they are actually quite enjoyable and have me a little bit interested in wine. I rather like the guy.
Here's the clip from Conan: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Crimi2famPA - leszek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1then report the results in the wine application database: http://appdb.winehq.org/
- grouchyman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Where's the video that instructs them on being pretentious and annoying?
- Arramol, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Nah, but if you could show me how to make Photoshop and Oblivion play nicely....
- qnix, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I thought it was about WINE project too :) Anyhow - those videos don't seem to work under linux. I click on the video link and nothing happens.
- Ekosz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Thats exactly what i thought!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I think I speak for most of us when I say "Everything I know, I found here:"

Go crazy. - mmmiiikkkeee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1i installed wine-doors the other day... its like pre-alhpa right now so installing it meant installing dependencies your self.. but it was quite cool.... it installed IE for me and a lot of other stuff :) ..... google wine-doors it looks really cool(i know its not ready yet but has potential). It was very easy to use!! and looked pretty good too. i hope in improves.... then there will be no more guides to read to use wine... just click install.. :)
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3i'm a little embarrassed that my first thought was that this was for WINE (the windows application layer for *nix), and that i was bummed when i realized that it wasn't.
- jeffreym123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Who's Gary? ;)
- GABBO222, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Agh! Tricksy indeed.
- Kreigster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Yeah, same here.
- Kreigster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Yeah, same here.
- luvgrapesqezins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Gary Vaynerchuk sets out to not only make wine more fun and accessible to more people, but he also works hard at debunking wine misconceptions and prententiousness. A major part of his message is about empowering people by teaching us to understand and trust our unique tastes.
- Hobofuzz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Who the hell needs lessons on how to drink Wine?
Alcohol is alcohol. - MarkCiccone, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1It's just wine. Drink it.
I've helped my grandpa make wine, and I spent no time trying to procure it's properties. Just drank it and enjoyed it. 'Beginners'? You must mean someone having their first drink surely? - Mlappy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Here's a good source for information and tasting notes:
http://LaWineClub.com/ - JasonMaloney101, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Speaking of which... does anybody happen to know of a good guide for starting out with WINE?
- Haohmaru, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3I was the opposite: "Oh lord, not another WINE article."
I was pleasantly surprised. - abxy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know that I needed lessons to understand how to open my mouth and drink something. Buried for being pretentious.
- synthpop, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0is there anything more pretentious than wine tasting? trying real real but can't think of anything.
- compgeek, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1thought it was for wine on linx misleading title for a digg article. for the drink just select a bottle from a winery that you have had before that was good and enjoy. preferably chilled in a wine glass (little tip hold the glass by the stem that way no heat from your hand warms the wine)
- jooaakim, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1Dont seem to be the only thinking that this was about the thing that's not an emulator..
oh, well, old digg'll never come back i guess - gr4yscale, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2Well *****, I thought this was the WINE project as well. ***** digg.
- thcobbs, on 10/10/2007, -10/+4New to wine?
It gets you drunk fast...

- kazamx, on 10/10/2007, -11/+1Nuts I got all excited about this. I was thinking of the WINE project on linux though :-(
