………………………..¯””^~~~~^” - fuckingusername, on 01/07/2009, -42/+142unfortunately I live in the USA and have no health care and can't afford it.
- MrBaseball416, on 01/07/2009, -16/+111Fortunately I live in the USA and was able to get a job with health care that paid for my lasic in full.
- cuestbeats, on 01/07/2009, -2/+86during most of that video, my butthole was about the size of a pinhead.
- MadEnvoy, on 01/07/2009, -2/+71I live in the USA and have health care, however this type of surgery is considered elective and is not covered by my insurer.
- Axeman2063, on 01/07/2009, -2/+65I highly doubt they have videocameras with that level of zoom....
- Minters, on 01/07/2009, -1/+63Absolutely brilliant, thank you. Had this done a long time ago and was always curious as to what exactly it is that they do.
For those that are curious, you feel zero pain during the procedure and the only discomfort you get lasts for about an hour after the surgery. - HeDiggMe, on 01/07/2009, -0/+52How do you get the video of your own lasik? Dugg for having a geeky dr
- FreddieD, on 01/07/2009, -0/+51For those considering LASIK, please don't judge based on this video. The video looks like something out of that Saw movie franchise.. I had LASIK done two years ago, and it was 100% pain free. I felt pressure as they put that device on my eye to lock it in place (felt no different than pushing the palm of your hand on your eye with moderately light pressure) but no pain. Afterwards, your eyes feel a little scratchy but again, no pain per se, just minor irritation. I went home and took a nap and when I awoke a few hours later it was like "holy ***** I can see without my glasses!"
The *only* advice I can give is to not go to one of those cheapie $300/eye places. I paid about $1500/eye, but it was tax free because I saved ahead with FSA. When people ***** with your eyeballs it's no place to cheap out on. - techdever, on 01/07/2009, -5/+51I like turtles.
- jotux, on 01/07/2009, -0/+45Show me on the doll where Canada loved you.
- Ductapemaster, on 01/07/2009, -1/+37Do they give you some sort of relaxant or something? I would think that your eye would get irritated pretty quickly if not. I don't think I could keep looking straight!
EDIT: Holy ***** they just removed that flap of whatever off his eye... - deadpixel621, on 01/07/2009, -0/+32*shivers* You never got the natural reflexes of something about to poke you in the eye? I'd probably have the urge to blink and break the clamp.
- talonstriker, on 01/07/2009, -2/+31These puns are quite cornea.
- FreddieD, on 01/07/2009, -0/+28I'm sure prices have fallen since my surgery and will continue to fall, but PLEASE don't fall for those cheapie ads you see in the paper. Talk to your optometrist and get a recommendation on an eye surgeon from them. I paid about $1500/eye a few years ago. I could have paid cheaper elsewhere, but my eyeballs are about the last place on which I plan to try to save a buck.
- ds143, on 01/07/2009, -1/+29i could never see getting an operation like that.
- Scrappy1850, on 01/07/2009, -3/+31i live in the US have health insurance, but it doesnt cover this type of surgery. so i saved up for it. i cut back on eating out and extraneous electronics and the money just appeared after a few months. funny how that works. i didnt beg the govt to pay for me. i did it all by myself because im a big boy!
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -1/+28I live in the USA.
- wes517, on 01/07/2009, -0/+27close, they moved the flap so they could reshape the eye itself... from mine it looked like I was seeing through a wet screen into a light during that part.
Once it's over they move the flap down and it reheals in about a week or so all better. Just make sure you don't rub your eyes in the meantime... - danwallace, on 01/07/2009, -0/+26I live in Canada and my government doesn't want to pay for my lasik surgery. I don't know what part you live in, but it's certainly not covered by OHIP.
- KennMac, on 01/07/2009, -5/+30Just like with any surgery, you can fish up horror stories about it on the internet. Let me repeat that, ANY PROCEDURE. As with any procedure, there are risks. Only you and your doctor can decide whether or not your personal risk is worth it. Don't think it's worth the risk? Don't do it! Other people may be at a much lower risk than you and it would be silly for them not to consider it. Using sensationalist stories to sway people away from a potentially very beneficial procedure is just lame.
Most of my family had this procedure done 15 years ago and have had ZERO problems. One of them is now 85 and still sees 20/20. Most of my hockey team has this procedure done and have had zero complications and zero reports of dryness.
"Many people wake up 3 or 4 times a night due to their eyes."
- I know exactly what you're referring to about this. This was a day-by-day journal reported by ONE guy who had a number of complications that actually ended up being his fault for not revealing information to his doctor. He specifically reported having to wake up 3 or 4 times a night to re-wet his eyes. These symptoms later subsided for him. This is very common for the first 3 to 6 months post-surgery. - PGPirate, on 01/07/2009, -0/+24I want Lasik surgery so I will NOT be watching this video.
- AndrewMoyer, on 01/07/2009, -0/+23Youtube search for "lasik"...
“lasik” video results 1 - 20 of about 2,870
Congrats on making the front page though! I watched a bunch of these videos 2 years ago already when I had mine done.
The creepiest thing was the fact that the operating room was EXACTLY like the last alien space ship I was in... - ketedford, on 01/07/2009, -5/+28Eye see what's going on.
- PGPirate, on 01/07/2009, -0/+23George: Elaine! Get! Do women know about shrinkage?
Elaine: What do you mean, like laundry?
George: No.
Jerry: Like when a man goes swimming... afterwards...
Elaine: It shrinks? - inactive, on 01/07/2009, -8/+30No, people who make more money than you are forced to love you.
- CindyMindy, on 01/07/2009, -0/+22I can change that. :3
- gothelium, on 01/07/2009, -1/+22Good thing I'm content with glasses...

- ArchieAndrews, on 01/07/2009, -1/+22I can only speak for BC, Canada but laser eye surgery is not covered under health insurance here. You need to pony up.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -2/+22eye see what you did there
- TexasShiv, on 01/07/2009, -1/+20We all know you're still wearing a turtle neck
- coheedcollapse, on 01/07/2009, -1/+20I had a major back surgery a few years ago in which they had me laid out on a table with my back literally flapped open. I'd kill for the video of that thing.
- kent1146, on 01/07/2009, -0/+18^^
They use eye drops to numb your eye from twitching from all of the poking and prodding. It's actually not that bad.
The worst part is when they use a tool called the microkeratome, which basically shaves off the top layer of your eyeball like a deli slicer. - pintomp3, on 01/07/2009, -2/+19Hopefully it wasn't a blinding success.
- GiJoeBob, on 01/07/2009, -1/+18I live in the USA and had my LASIK surgery financed.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -0/+17My uncle's eye has been jacked up from when he got the surgery, but hey lightning can't strike twice in the same family can it?
- AndrewMoyer, on 01/07/2009, -0/+17You can get LASIK done in the Philly area for $1500 (total, all inclusive) by very reputable doctors, and even cheaper for both of you if you can get a partner to get it done with you.
If you can't save up $1500 for such a dramatic life changing service, then you probably should re-evaluate your budget and income streams.
Also, health insurance does not cover this operation, but you can use up to $1300 of tax deductible funds through a Flexible Health Spending Account, which is what I did, and it saved me about $300 from my income tax.
And if you still can't get it done, well... I guess that's the nature of our capitalist society. At least you can still see, and there are cheaper alternatives.
But having had LASIK done myself, I would say that you should rob a bank if you have to -- it's that good. - spyd3rweb, on 01/07/2009, -0/+16I need a sedative just to be able to watch this.
- DeathRay2K, on 01/07/2009, -15/+31I live in Canada and my government loves me.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -7/+23VERY fortunately for you, considering the jobs being lost right now.
- napk, on 01/07/2009, -0/+15I just threw up a little bit.
- hellalazy, on 01/07/2009, -2/+17pew pew pew
- m1kel, on 01/07/2009, -9/+23I was considering getting LASIK about a year ago. I go in wanting the most expensive procedure, but the doctor explains that my pupils are too big.. So I go in again the next day for the same test, and they tell me I can now get the procedure... Um... Okay.. So I set a appointment date then go home and read more about the complications.
About 30 % of patients complain about dryness 6 months after. Also, the part of the eye that is being cut, the cornea, will never heal back to normal. The flap that is created is only at (I believe) 5% of the original strength! Many nerve endings are also destroyed, which are used to produce tears. This is the cause of dry eye.
Many people wake up 3 or 4 times a night due to their eyes. You will need to constantly use eye drops, and there are good chances you may experience double vision or ghosting. Especially if you have larger pupils. Folks, I urge you not to get LASIK. There's a reason Air Force pilots can't have it done. I advice reading stories of people post-operation because there are far more complications then I posted. I canceled my appointment the day before... - FishThePirate, on 01/07/2009, -3/+16Yeah, looks like he certainly got an eyeful.
- Slash0, on 01/07/2009, -0/+13I'm from Ontario too. Definitely paid for my Lasik out of pocket, except for the $200 annual allowance my insurance gives me for eye care.
