Poor kids don't have a chance. - chard, on 12/06/2007, -0/+11And I'm the ass hole when I tell her to quit -.-
- Kurisuku, on 12/06/2007, -1/+9My Mom smoked through her pregnancy, admits to it, and smoked around me since I was a baby. As soon as I started going to school every year I got a new teacher the teacher would grill me and INSIST that I smoked, as young as 3rd grade. And every year my Mom had to come in and explain, "No, I smoke when I drive him to school. No, his clothes probably smell like cigarettes because I smoke while ironing. His Grandmother smokes around him too, our whole home is a cloud of smoke."
But, either way, I didn't turn out TOO bad regardless of my neurological issues. :) That and I actually DON'T smoke because by the time I was 13-14 and kids my age started smoking and I was so disgusted by my Mom that I didn't want to have anything to do with it at all. So at least it turned me against it. - doubleoh7, on 12/06/2007, -1/+7In other news, water is wet.
- MutatedNantuko, on 12/06/2007, -1/+6Holy *****, alert the ***** media.
- andrewcsayer, on 12/06/2007, -6/+10THIS is not news.
- inactive, on 12/06/2007, -2/+6Isn't this like, really, really old? I'm pretty sure everyone knows this. Everyone.
....
Everyone. - the42nddegree, on 12/06/2007, -0/+3Where does one find this 'porn'?
- phlll, on 12/06/2007, -1/+4In other breaking news, fire is hot and should not be worn as clothing.
- mindsnare, on 12/06/2007, -3/+6ok um, duh
- shatteredshards, on 12/06/2007, -0/+3Oh, most smokers know. The problem is that a good number of them DON'T CARE.
- diggmaddy, on 12/06/2007, -1/+3LE DUH!
- obxjdt, on 12/06/2007, -1/+3It's Bush's fault! I say impeach now!!!!
- sybarite, on 12/06/2007, -1/+3Children whose mothers smoked found 10x more likely to commit apostrophe abuse
- s0nicfreak, on 12/06/2007, -0/+2The difference is, if you kill a fetus you are killing a fetus; if you disable a fetus for life you are disabling a person in advance.
- Richandler, on 12/06/2007, -6/+8Abortion is legal until the baby is born, so it really doesn't matter what the woman does to the child in her womb right?
Oh it does matter! Huh!
This is the trade off for abortion rights. You get people who disable and kill their kids through smoking and drinking. You can't stop them. It's there body right? I'm just saying... - an0n1m0us, on 12/06/2007, -0/+2aborting a pregnancy is taking responsibility for a life
sucking and blowing cancer is denying responsibility for the life of yourself and others - Kowai, on 12/06/2007, -0/+2Causing harm to a child through neglect is wrong - when a mother plans to go through with a pregnancy she has no right to do that to the unborn baby.
Also this is not news. Anyone who didn't know this ***** is an idiot. The other day they ran a story on the news saying that drinking while pregnant harms unborn children. Wtf? Is this obvious week or something? - getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2Yes there is the health aspect, but what fetus wouldn't love that smooth, mellow flavor?
- RxDaniel, on 12/06/2007, -0/+2Yes, but now we know that infants aren't magically immune to all the damage smoke causes to adults. This study was definitely worth people's time.
- inactive, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1I hang out and have fun with chicks who smoke and drink, but am never gonna marry one. Those bitches don't know that. Mahahaha!
- chrismgtis, on 12/06/2007, -1/+2The mother of my unborn child smokes and will not stop. She is 4 months pregnant and smokes like a freight train. All she does is make up excuses not to stop or excuses that just don't make sense at all, which is typical of her. I wish I knew what my legal rights were in this case to possibly force her to stop or prevent myself from having to pay medical bills caused by her directly and willingly damaging my kids health.
- ladalang, on 12/06/2007, -1/+2I'm living proof this is true. I have severe asthma, horrible allergies and was born a preemie. I have organs that never fully developed because I had such low birth weight. All for her need to get a nic fix. The world would be a better place without smoking.
- TheDreadDiggerD, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1If she feels that abortion is wrong, then she has no right to choose.
- brettruffenach, on 12/06/2007, -1/+2Thank you, Captain Obvious!

- Subvexer, on 12/06/2007, -1/+2Very relevant and important in light of how many pregnancies start on Digg.
Seriously, this place is like the back seat of a Chevy at Woodstock on Rohypnol. - RxDaniel, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1I don't think people that dumb know how to use computers....or read.
- mudface, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1Wait wait wait. Smoking is BAD for you?!
- evetsleep, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1News at 11.
- InferiorWang, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1Sure. Three days of withdrawal is worse than 9 months of intravenous carcinogens.
- wil2200, on 12/06/2007, -1/+2is this even news because it seems more like common sense to me
***** there is a big warning on the package - vidal, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1Try Quit Smoking Counter - No books, No plaster, No pills, No gum, only stats!
The online quit smoking counter measures smoking cessation and the length of time the person has stopped smoking, money you saved and extra live gained!
http://www.quitcounter.com/quitsmoking.php - digduality2, on 12/06/2007, -1/+2I don't wish to minimalize any efforts for people to quit. For their sake, for their baby's sake, for people around them's sake. Smoking is bad for you. No doubt about it.
But i love the sheep-like "burn him/her" mentality non-smokers have recieved. It's cool to bash them. More so than fast food eaters, SUV drivers, pointless consumerism, pollution of any kind, it's more fun to bash smokers than it is to bash Democrats, Republicans, the-race-you-happen-to-hate, various religions, drug users, etc..
Look, me and millions of individuals like me were born from mothers that smoked. And we're fine. Did it cause miscarriages? yup. Did it cause medical problems for some kids? Sure. But lets not over-state the problem because we have a cultural disposition to spit, kick, snarl at, snub your noses at smokers. Medical dangers should be taken seriously, but realistically.
Everyone knows it's bad for us. Mothers imo definately shouldn't even take the chance at something bad happening, that being said.. i think our culture overstates the danger if they do. We get warnings on packs, commercials on tv, radio, internet, we have doctor's riding our ass, the government and private establishments on our ass. Smokers konw, and they want to be left alone. - mumphy, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1buried.
- inactive, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1Why did you decide to make a baby with her?
