- Neticule, on 07/01/2008, -2/+32Tell that to a pregnant woman that want a burger ;)
- melissajarquin, on 07/04/2008, -0/+28I'm currently 6.5 months pregnant and people are constantly telling me to eat more. Most people do not know that it is recommended to only eat 300 more calories per day, and that is only if you were of normal weight prior to becoming pregnant and with the recommended 30 minutes of cardiovascular activity! If you're reading this article, you're probably not of the population that would never be exposed to this type of info anyway. If most people knew about proper nutrition then such high percentages of developed countries would not be overweight or obese. Share your knowledge people!
- 3rdDay, on 07/01/2008, -0/+25Another fine study™ from the Nebraska Institute of the Totally Obvious.
- sirjeffrey, on 07/01/2008, -0/+23Yes, but denying my pregnant wife's cravings for ice cream topped with nacho cheese would have been harmful to my health.
- poidh, on 07/01/2008, -0/+16In other news, researchers have suggested that stabbing yourself in the head could lead to long term brain damage or even death.
- inactive, on 07/01/2008, -1/+15I'm afraid of hungry women.
- Pittance, on 07/01/2008, -1/+14Really? REALLY? No one could figure this out by themselves? The crap that if your gorge yourself on makes you feel like ***** could be bad for your child as a fetus?
- webkami, on 07/01/2008, -2/+15You mean no OM NOM NOM .....?
- eryximachus, on 07/01/2008, -0/+11THis is primarily due to the presence of engineered β-Carbolines that are added to foods in order to increase sales. These substances primarily interfere with dopamine reuptake and are addictive. Like with cocaine, once you've tried it - you'll always crave it on some level. The engineered flavor enhancers are particularly difficult to digest (this was a design goal), so I'm not surprised it's passed through to the baby.
Still though - as the crack baby epidemic has taught us - it's not always as clear cut as studies would have us believe. Quite a few children born to cocaine addicts are messed up, but most aren't. I imagine that is the same story here. - azzythedemon, on 07/01/2008, -1/+12All the overweight people I know are well aware of what constitutes a proper diet. They still choose to eat fried chicken and nachos instead of lean meat and vegetables.
If you care at all about your health, you can find out how to maintain it, no matter what income bracket you're in. It doesn't cost anything to walk to the library and either use a library computer, or ask where the health books are.
Knowledge and choice aren't the same. - Raian, on 07/01/2008, -1/+11So are you trying to say that by my smoking crack...I could harm my baby?? How dare you!
- sactoeric, on 07/01/2008, -2/+12And it will cause more harm to the mother because any good stuff that could be obtained from the food will go to the baby first, leaving the mother w/ the junk.
- DivisibleByZero, on 07/01/2008, -0/+8How'd that bypass surgery go? Was that your 4th or 5th?
- knm123, on 07/01/2008, -0/+7my doctor said I have high cholesterole - so now I can't eat anything I love.....
And I eat relatively healthy - while most of my friends eat poorly, are over wieght and have no health issues...
You only live once, enjoy... I'm going to eat a hot dog now, don't tell my doctor......... - anstice85, on 07/01/2008, -0/+6Rare exceptions to the rule?
- poidh, on 07/01/2008, -0/+6Well I am your doctor, and I'm going to kick you in the nuts at your next appointment.
- anstice85, on 07/01/2008, -1/+7Common sense: It isn't good to eat like *****, especially when you're eating for two. I wouldn't believe anything else.
- Fejerro, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5Telling pregnant wife she can't have a burger when she wants a burger 'Harms Husband'
- Magnolit, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5that wasn't a question
- phorty40, on 07/01/2008, -1/+6I believe this is called Natural Selection or Survival of the Fittest.
- WiretapStudios, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5This just in, junk food is bad for kids OUT of the womb as well. Alert the BBC!
- cdigioia, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5But surely crack is OK?
- phorty40, on 07/01/2008, -2/+7Onion and spam in the same sentence? Blasphemy!
- uselessexpert, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5Hey, I don't condone eating junk food, but how emotional women get when they are pregnant, and those hormones are just raging, I will be the last person to tell her not to eat that burger... Not unless I want my manhood ripped off! :-)
Those of you that are married or have children, know what I'm talking about... - iziizi, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4easypie, says it all in the name really. fatty.
- SammyJr, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4Nothing wrong with a burger. Just don't get it from a fast food joint.
- fr3ddie, on 07/01/2008, -3/+7"Follow your cravings".... can we throw away this stupid idea now please?... pisses me off to hear about pregnant women eating gross combinations of food that are OBVIOUSLY not healthy choices.
- coyote1284, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4In that case, it's still be her fault for buying the "crap" burger, instead of the "good" burger, no?
- Thrilltone, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4I knew a family of a woman with 2 teenage daughters.
She fed them their 'favorites' at meals.
They sat at the table and ate off plates but dinner for one girl might consist of:
A Devil Dog, 2 Twinkies, Milk Duds, a bag of potato chips
When the girl's boyfriend would play around and grab her arm,
a dark bruise would appear on her almost translucent skin, within seconds - inactive, on 07/01/2008, -1/+5Second hand junk food.
Much like smoking, they've found a way that your eating habits affect someone else. Now they can pass laws that regulate this behavior also. - melissajarquin, on 07/04/2008, -0/+4I do know a lot of overweight people that know that what they put in their mouths is not good for them, or simply know that they are consuming too much regardless of nutritional value. I had lunch with someone yesterday who ate twice as much as she should have. She is overweight and will probably complain about it, and all of her other health problems associated with it, in a week. It's a ridiculous cycle. The initiative to think about being overweight or improper nutrition must come prior to walking to a library to use the computer or asking where health books are. I'd say most people don't make changes or find that initiative within themselves until they have to. Even when they know they should, those change do not always take place. Hopefully the culture of eating will change and people will start eating to live and not living to eat.
- melissajarquin, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3Unfortunately a lot of people don't know this, or even consider this. In a lot of cultures it is considered starving your baby or not giving it proper nourishment if you don't gain a lot of weight. In those same culture a lean baby is often looked down upon and mother's are guilted into over feeding. I think that those people are more old school than anything and are not up to date on the latest nutrition requirements. They're probably overweight themselves too.
- danharlow, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4The fat slobs of humanity in Wall-E turned out fine, so what;s the big deal? :)
- rhabd0mancer, on 07/01/2008, -2/+5Should pregnant women who eat junk food be charged with child endangerment?
- lp66, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Someone needs to tell it to Jenny McCarthy. Someone gave her book "Belly Laughs" to my wife when she was pregnant—my wonderful wife who ate almost solely organic vegetables from a local farm during her pregnancy. Jenny McCarthy made a pan of brownies every day, and polished it off herself each day. Now she's a spokeswoman for the anti-vaccination folks because her kid has autism. It's sad, but, maybe there's a connection there?
- BeforeSputnik, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3If you eat poorly, the person that feeds off of you will suffer as well. Isn't this just the extension of "you are what you eat?" And someone needed to study this because....?
- crapmatic, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3In other news, smoking causes lung cancer.
- inactive, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4*faps to the Snorg Tees girl*
more like Snorg Tease. - idhindsight, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3look.
look at how wrong you are. - 101phones, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Umm, I thought it was only right for women to eat like they're from 3rd world countries when they are pregnant. Hmmm, guess not afterall.
- cdigioia, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Surely they don't mean crack as well...?
- BirdOfParadize, on 07/01/2008, -3/+5Good question! But if this burger is junk, it is not a guilt of the pregnant woman, but a company who is making a junk ingredients for the burger. Just buy organic stuff, make a healthy burger for youself and be happy! Simply!
- zantos420, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2junk in, junk out
- scoot2006, on 07/01/2008, -3/+5You, sir/ma'am, are showing one of the biggest problems in this country: the lack of people wanting to take responsibility for their own actions.
***** off. - impei, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2...they got a grant?
- rhabd0mancer, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2Or maybe a christofascist state.
- beauley, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2In order to sell food to millions of consumers, the food industry must make it appealing to as many as possible, from the young child to the elderly. In order to accomplish this, individual food suppliers use additives to make their foods taste better.

Are There Hidden Additives in Our Foods? - sublingo, on 07/01/2008, -2/+4scoot2006: Don't be a jerk. Reread what the person said. BirdOfParadize didn't say the mother isn't guilty of eating crap, but that the fact the burger is crap is the fault of the company making the crap burger. Burgers don't have to be crap, so make your own. It's actually a statement of responsibility BirdOfParadize made.
