- ARabidDrummer, on 01/04/2009, -0/+28It seems Cincinnati isn't sleeping tight enough...
- OutpostNetwork, on 01/04/2009, -1/+18While reading this story I couldn't help but feel the urge to scratch. Note to self: don't stay in a hotel in Cincinnati.
- sativaB, on 01/04/2009, -1/+18I ***** HATE bedbugs.
- Dumbledorito, on 01/04/2009, -0/+16"This American Life" had a show called "Fear of Sleep" with a segment about households vs. insects, including bedbugs. It's pretty scary:
http://thislife.org/Radio_Episode.aspx?sched=1255
The segment on bedbugs begins at 22:55, but the bit before from Mike Birbiglia is incredibly funny. - JamesBondJr, on 01/04/2009, -1/+16no, burn everything
- diggafrica, on 01/04/2009, -0/+14I had a problem with bed bugs last year. I get anxiety attacks at night. They are very hard to spot even when you turn the light on as they are fast little bitches. The best way to get rid of them is to get rid of your mattress itself, then clear your entire room out, spray it and sweep it clean.
- mrinsanity, on 01/04/2009, -0/+12A while back I thought I had bedbugs so I called my landlord and told him and he tells me "Hey man, that sounds more like fleas." And he was right and I was like "YES!!!!!! SOOOOOO Rather have fleas than bedbugs!"
But I still had fleas.... not cool. - HeDiggMe, on 01/04/2009, -2/+13So when your mom says Don't let the bedbugs bite, in Cincinnati you actually have to work at it
- fjsferreira, on 01/04/2009, -0/+11I'm homeless, so I guess this doesn't affect me...
- legoman666, on 01/04/2009, -1/+11I live in Cincinnati and can vouch for this article. I lived in an apartment about 5 minutes walking distance from the University of Cincinnati (***** part of town, got mugged in broad daylight at 11AM). My land lady went absolutely nuts when one of the tenant's rooms showed signs of infestation. (She owns and lets two houses in the area). As a result of the scare, the house with the bed bugs was fumigated several time, she bought mattress covers at ~$200 each to enclose every mattress in both houses (about 12 or so) and she passed out packets about how to avoid further infestations. This resulted in me not riding on the public transportation system any more.
Our crappy neighbor's house is infested. They put a destroyed couch out for garbage pickup that was infested with the little critters. The exterminator took a look at it and told us to steer clear of it.
Evil creatures. I'm surprised I didn't track them back home when I lived in UC's dorms for 6 months. - ObamaYouth, on 01/04/2009, -1/+9D.D.T.
- rhabd0mancer, on 01/05/2009, -0/+8It's a good idea to avoid Cincinnati altogether.
- dansai, on 01/04/2009, -0/+8Cincinnati is in Ohio... You know, in the USA
- sgvprelude, on 01/04/2009, -0/+8replace everything...bed, sheets, carpets.
- LordMalak, on 01/04/2009, -1/+9*****... maybe I should check my bed...
- kingnothing1, on 01/04/2009, -0/+7Last year I had a ***** case of bedbugs in the dorms at UC. Yea...my legs were covered in red spots and were really ***** itchy.
- Cuchanu, on 01/04/2009, -0/+7If you are clean and don't travel you probably don't have to worry about it. Unless you have a lot of dirty chicks sleeping in your bed.
- Cuchanu, on 01/04/2009, -0/+7What? Am I naive?
- kthoma22, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6Actually Bed Bugs are also a major problem in Boston, New York City, and Toronto as well.
http://www.bedbugregistry.com/ User website that lets people give out information about places with bed bugs. Check out before you travel and update if you do get bit. This is a serious problem. - sjbdallas, on 01/04/2009, -1/+7What happens in Cin City stays in Cin City........we hope.
- QuackAttack818, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6lol, clifton
- onimusha115, on 01/04/2009, -1/+7psshh, key word is "may"
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -0/+6It might burn your skin and eyes a bit and taste a little bad but totally worth it.
- bigpallooka, on 01/04/2009, -0/+6I had a backpacker hostel years ago here in Australia. When I first bought it the previous owner mentioned how to deal with bedbugs. As it was tropical north Queensland the remedy was to place all the rooms mattresses and the tenants belongings into large black garbage bags and place them all day in the sun. This worked very well but the only real remedy I found was to replace all the timber beds/bunks with steel tubing beds/bunks. The little buggers live in the timber joints. Oh, cheap foam mattresses are better too as there are no real seams for them to live in. I had some success with flea bombs also.
- qwertydvorak, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5here is an enzyme cleaner that kills bedbugs:

this is a link to the video showing it attacking bedbugs:

considering that it is a concentrated product, you should be able to hose tons of areas with it for the cost of one bottle. one $32 quart ($42 with s/h) makes 8 high strength or 16 normal strength gallons. - joemofo214, on 01/04/2009, -2/+7wanna get rid of bed bugs? bleach
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5Freshmen year of college the dorms were full, so they had about 100-150 students stay in a hotel for the semester. I woke up a few mornings with some weird bites on me. Went to the doctor and they didn't have any idea what it could be. This happened for a week or so. One night I was on my laptop and saw a small bug walking on the bed. I searched around online and found out it was a bed bug. I read more about them online and found out where they sleep in the bed and stuff. I was able to fill up one of those red plastic cups about 1/3 of the way with live ones, dead ones, and their *****. I took it to the front desk and demanded a new room that night. Their policy is to not allow room switches after a certain time. I slept in my car that night. Very bad experience. Bed bugs suck.

- Cswltd13, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4it's the nasty nati, get it right
- danamon, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4i live in a town about 20mins away from cincy and my girlfriends grandparents had told her they had bedbugs. we thought nothing of it and we moved into the basement of there house awhile later while they were still trying to get rid of them by themselves(very dumb idea). so i woke up with one crawling on me with its belly full of my blood and flipped out and my girlfriend woke up with itchy spots all over and the nightmare begins...for us. the grandparents had to take everything off the walls and pull everything out of the house once a month for 6 months to have the professionals come out and spray for them. it cost them around 1000 for them and then another grand for new mattresses and bedings. we also had to do this in the basement and it was hell every month doing this. well they got rid of them and my girlfriend and i moved a few months later to our new apartment and guess what. we brought them with us because they live in everything. they wait in anything that you can fit a playing card into, even in between the pages of books. we found a place that sold the same stuff the professionals used and had he grandpa come and spray our place every other week so they wouldnt spread into the surrounding apartments...and they didnt thank baby jesus and now they have been gone for the past year. i thought about running myself into a tree a few times in the car because i was so stressed from it.
Long story short. dont ever think "oh bed bugs who cares" until you get them and then you will be the most miserable person until they are gone. and even when i saw this on digg i flipped my ***** a little because i live 20mins away from cincy and they spread like a wildfire. - JakeBC, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4We have a problem with them here in Vancouver too. Here is a blog article about them. A lot of good info in the comments.
http://www.beyondrobson.com/city/2007/11/bed_bugs_ ... - Quilik, on 01/04/2009, -1/+5Trick is to make sure you have a sufficient amount of alcohol surrounding your vicinity when you go to do that thing you do before you wake up...
- bearcat8543, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4haha i got mugged in the middle of the afternoon as well on wheeler street. what a dump that area is.
- JDiZZle300Z, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4That bag solution is very creative and simple, and its no surprise that it worked well. Insects don't like 200+ degrees :)
- thegsa, on 01/04/2009, -0/+4DDT kills bedbugs.
But it is illegal in the US because in may cause cancer.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDT - Sherman901, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3lucky you!
- lpfan076, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3we don't call it cincinnasty at all.
take your pick of "nasty natti" and "the five one three" - Cuchanu, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3but what is "that thing you do before you wake up"?
- DirtyVicar, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Do some searches on tripadvisor and you can see that a lot of hotels out there are having problems. When I'm on business travel the first thing I do when I go in a hotel room is pull back the sheets and check all the mattress seams and look at the sheets for any signs of a bedbug tequila party. Better safe than sorry.
- legoman666, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3More specifically, Corryville.
- JaredXM, on 01/04/2009, -1/+4Hmm, cancer or bed bugs?
- mrhedges, on 01/04/2009, -0/+3You're going to bleach an entire mattress? The spring-board too?
- algaeturd, on 01/05/2009, -4/+7They don't call it CincinNASTY for nothin'
- jstem1994, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3No, most are quite uptight. Going way back to Cincy vs Hustler Magazine in the 1970's, and Cincy vs Mapplethorpe in the 1990's.
No, we don't learn. - JDiZZle300Z, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Unfortunately he's right. Can't smoke indoors in Cincy either. Can right across the river in Newport though :) The only decent thing in Cincy is Kings Island, but its not really in Cincy. It's north of the city in the rich suburbs of Mason, Ohio.
- hockeyisgd, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4I hate living in Cincinnati...I'm getting out of here in about 2 years when i graduate college
- lusenok2, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Thank you!
Will look there before booking a hotel. - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Nice to be free
- ZachiusMaximus, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Obviously you have never been downtown on 4th street. There has been a scientology storefront up for about a year now, with about a hundred copies of "Dianetics" in the front window.
Zachiusmaximus reppin the nasty nati baby - FalconJones, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3I live in DeVry Student housing right outside of Philadelphia and it's becoming more and more of a problem. The housing director here blames us entirely. I've tried to make it clear that placing blame is not going to fix the problem he's going to have if he doesn't bite this in the ass soon. Since I discovered the little bastards in the apartment I moved into, 4-5 other school apartments have found them, and that's just a small fraction of the available apartments in the complex. I sympathize with anyone who has this problem because it really isn't your fault, but everyone tries to make it out that way.
