- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+75- Better teeth: Seminal plasma contains zinc, calcium and other minerals shown to retard tooth decay. Since this is a family Web site, we will omit discussion of the mineral delivery system.
Gotta email this to my gf. :D
EDIT: Forbes is academic now? - carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+74I sure hope you mean receiving them
- Methodius, on 10/12/2007, -8/+74"Better Teeth"
All right, that was pretty damned funny, for a primarily academic article. - brian1175, on 10/12/2007, -2/+53I heard blow jobs will give you eternal life.....
- evilTak, on 10/12/2007, -4/+51And it's because of lack of sex education. Kids are having kids before they know what condoms are because nobody's telling them. Americans in general have this attitude that sex is "dirty," and it's wrong to talk to kids about it. They learn that it's dirty, and they're embarrassed to ask about it, embarrassed to buy condoms or other contraceptives, and confused about how to deal with their hormones. The few places that *do* have sex education programs are generally way too late. (Trying to educate 16-year-olds about sex is having missed the boat.)
Give kids all the facts and let them make the choice to abstain, instead of trying to pressure them to do so with fear and shame. - Nitro420, on 10/12/2007, -5/+51Yeah, where is the "forward to girlfriend" button?
- 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41You really think we need a mirror for forbes.com?
- allisonaxe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42according to this, I should be on death's bed.
*sigh* - IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32Prediction: this will be the most forwarded Digg ever.
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29Masturbation counts for some of them.
- VincentIII, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Well maybe if sex education and talking about wasn't seen as taboo, 12 year olds wouldn't be mommy and daddy already. Youth will have sex, the best you can do is make sure they know what the hell can happen afterwards.
(edit: damn got beat to it ^^I) - OnymousHero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25The problem is, sex seems to always be portrayed by government/media/parents as being dirty and something to 'protect' kids from, while at the same time not giving any real guidance about what is a normal, natural, healthy (when done right ;) part of life.
Media is a good example of what is wrong: For example, it is completely ok to show quite graphic violence on TV, but let Janet Jackson's nipple slip out and suddenly there is moral outrage and of course "all the kids must have been corrupted". I mean for goodness sakes when did showing the human body become so taboo? We're not in the middle ages here.
If people were more open and less prudish about sex I think we wouldn't see as many of the problems we do today. - jasz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24my coworker (female) blushed like I've never seen her blush after I showed her the article and told her that she had very white teeth..
Who understands women.. I gave her a compliment.. and she blushed and ran away... - bloqmon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Ah, but why have sex for exercise when you can play a "spirited game of squash"?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23"British researchers have determined that the equivalent of six Big Macs can be worked off by having sex three times a week for a year."
Give your girl a Big Mac and she'll have to do you 26 times to burn it off. Much more cost effective than flowers. - 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22There is no evidence that those two things are related. I would be more inclined to believe that the majority of people that abstain from sex until marriage are of the religious persuasion and frown upon divorce in the same way they do pre-marital sex.
- timusca, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24I practiced absitenence until marriage... and so did my wife. Thank God for masturbation or I'd be dead already.
- maks327, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20I think one question that should be raised is along the lines of the chicken and the egg. Sure the study indicates males getting it on 3+ times a week are less likely to have heart attacks, but is that because of the sex or is it because guys that are already in better shape and take better care of themselves are more likely to be the ones doing it 3+ times a week?
- derkaas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18No, you didn't. Celibacy, sure, but people who practice abstinence until marriage frequently go on to have many children once they marry.
- ChronicColonic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Ah, I see you're practicing abstinence, but not by choice.
- timusca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18"If you have an erection lasting longer than 4 hours, please consult your doctor."
Now I understand! - synaesthesia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Also, it feels good.
- fak3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Interesting, and would be more interesting if you'd provide a link for that source. Have one?
- HaltingPoint, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Why? If we can trick girls into thinking giving head gives you eternal life we still come out on top (no pun intended).
- bleonard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17If sex is being over sold, then sex education is being undersold.
- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17I refuse to believe this propganada! I shall never have sex again to spite this lone news article!!!
WHO IS WITH ME!
hello?.....anybody?....:( - tamurlane6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Jarland, i think that abstinence is fantastic for people who are going and willing to practice it. However, i think the vast majority of humans feel that sex is better option for them. Now you brought up an interesting issue when you mentioned young people not knowing what the possible issues with sex is. That, I think is the biggest problem with this whole sex issue. Lack of education. Maybe that's something this country needs to address in a major way.
- xutopia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Abstinence is a one person activity. Happy blue balls! :-D
- 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20Timusca's wife: "Oh Honey, of course I've been practicing 'absitenence', I'm completely 'absitenent', I promise..."
- rolandog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Gay men and straight women ... they have better teeth?
- 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Sorry dude, I know that was mean. I just couldn't help it.
- Sandtiger, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17LOL Ditto allisonaxe.
After a while all you can do is laugh about it. - OnymousHero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I think you summed it up well, ArmyOfFun. Europe has its problems too - In my country (the UK), the teenage pregnancy rate is the highest in Europe. Not coincidentally, I would say we have the least relaxed attitude about sex in Europe.
In France and Germany, naked breasts in public, on tv or in a magazine would be a non-issue. Compare this with the USA (and to some extent the UK, sadly) and the censors would be going crazy.
A small, related anecdote: I was watching NCIS the other night (a US TV series similar to JAG) and they are quite happy to show maimed, burnt, dismembered corpses being autopsied, but you will never see so much as a female nipple, let alone a penis - even on the autopsied bodies. - HaltingPoint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Their response: "Take it into your own hands."
- OnymousHero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@Jarland:
I think my words still appy though. Research has shown that people with sex addictions come from dysfunctional families: ie. ones where parents are "rigid, distant, uncaring"
http://psychcentral.com/library/sexaddict_causes.htm
Maybe if the parents spent some time with their kids and educated them about sex, and were open about it, these sort of problems would be reduced.
Having said that, I also believe that modern lifestyles are part to blame: Cheap, crappy food, stress and lack of exercise have been shown to be linked to depression, and when combined with the vicious cycles we see with hypersexuality then its no wonder this social problem occurs - justice7, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15ever brushed your gf off because you were engaged into an intense multiplayer game on your 360?
*raises hand* - omnithought, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"The penis, says Eid, is wonderfully resilient. But everything has its limits. Penile tissues, if given too roistering or prolonged a pummeling, can sustain damage."
Remember this, pr0n fiends! ;) - ArmyOfFun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The view that American sexuality is worsening due to the widespread dissemination of sexual imagery is interesting. Compare American sexual mores and exposure to say Europe and Japan. What you'll find are attitudes are (arguably) more lax in Western Europe and Japan while exposure to sexual content is probably more prevalent than in America. Yet, the birthrates in both countries is on the decline and STDs aren't worse than they are in America. I'm also unaware of an European epidemic of sex addicts.
So, I don't think the predominance of sex in culture is to blame. However, combine a hypersexualized media with a lack of even rudimentary sex education and the stigma of using (or purchasing) birth control, and you might be closer to explaining why America has worse sexual issues than Western Europe. - 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Read all the way to the end of the article... and try not to cringe at the last paragraph.
- H3avyC, on 10/12/2007, -11/+20I thought I had read somewhere that teen pregnancies are actually at a historic low point right now?
- sarawr, on 10/12/2007, -8/+17hell, i forwarded it to my boyfriend...
- kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I don't know I have heard Einstein was a womanizer, and had lots of sex. He lived In a day when brains made you a rock star.
I don't think anyone would call Einstein stupid by any means.
CoolWind, that is the stupidest comment I have seen on here in a long time. - spritom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8How rigorous of a study is needed?
Just in case we want to recreate the study for...uh...a peer review... - RatherDashing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I love how everyone on digg assumes the other is male. And I also love that they are right! :)
- malkir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Not only that, but it's a possibility that people that are naturally healthier (not just from being in shape) are more attractive to females, and therefore get more play.
- carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I dont know many girls named brian :)
- Scytale, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10The Magic 8-ball tells me this will not require a change in your normal behavior.
