- Linguo, on 09/29/2008, -4/+53You know America is beyond saving when Mexico is more concerned about it's citizen's health than the US.
- AmyVernon, on 09/29/2008, -1/+27Problem is, when you take a population that has adapted over hundreds (thousands?) of years to feast and famine, such as you tend to find in desert areas, then suddenly have feast all the time, but mostly unhealthy feast, this is what happens. That's why America's native populations have hugely high rates of diabetes...
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -1/+24Maybe they wouldn't be overweight if their food wasn't SO GOOD
- oakraid706, on 09/29/2008, -3/+25No, we can't fall behind Mexico in obesity!
- bastardo, on 09/29/2008, -1/+22I have noticed this rise in "fatness" in my country. It coincides with the arrival of McDonalds, KFC, Domino's and Starbucks to growing areas.
However, after a few years it becomes pretty obvious to the inhabitants why they're getting so much fatter than before, and they usually try to care more for themselves... - Surferess, on 09/29/2008, -1/+16Can you say Fresh-Mex?
- thetanman, on 09/30/2008, -0/+11For starters, STOP DRINKING SO MUCH COKE!
http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj219/alohanema ...
"Mexico is the world's leading per-capita consumer of Coca Cola, according to the World Health Organization. In 1998 Mexicans drank more than 400 milliliters per day of the Coca-Cola Co. soft drink, according to a report by the organization, up from 275 milliliters in 1992.
"Drinking water to quench thirst in Mexico is very rare," said Rivera of the National Institute of Public Health. About 95 percent of the nation's schools don't offer access to free water, he said.
"So what does a child do?" Rivera said. "He goes to the school store and sees that a soft drink costs the same or a little less than a bottle of water." - inactive, on 09/29/2008, -1/+11¿Qué?
- riverrunner, on 09/29/2008, -0/+10Well considering the ingredients to a good portion of Mexican dishes is cheese, refried beans, beef, tortilla but shaped differently, I am not sure this is gonna work.
- Homerr, on 09/29/2008, -0/+9Wasn't Schwarzenegger going to shape up America a few years ago?
- UKeTommyV, on 09/30/2008, -0/+9Well it would be easier if it wasn't for those delicious tacos. and im not talking about TACO HELL which is not mexican food.
- frjsanders, on 09/30/2008, -0/+9Los mexicanos gordos igual los gringos....
- inactive, on 09/29/2008, -10/+18Wait a minute. Shouldn't they just drink the water if they want to lose weight?
- thetanman, on 09/30/2008, -0/+8dugg for your authentic name.

Just being near each other makes us both fat? I guess we can't be friends anymore, since all we do when we hang out together is gorge on hot dogs and tamales.
- Oea420, on 09/30/2008, -1/+8Not to mention mexican coke is the BOMB, and not made with crappy HFCS.. real sugar ftw?
But, the problem is the same in the US. Kids will always choose soda over water...
You really need to eliminate it from schools and make soda more of a treat than an everyday drink, change the mindset that is causing the problem. - Ymeg, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7Ymeg's Fool-Proof Plan for Mega-Weight Loss!
1: Eat Healthy.
2: Exercise. - ASSASSYN360, on 09/30/2008, -1/+7The U.S. launches a counterstrike by opening 3 more McDonald's in Mexico to try and curve weight loss programs.
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -0/+6Yes, but that program was terminated.
- packerdawl, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6Don't forget lard, that ***** is the bomb.
- D14852001neko, on 09/30/2008, -1/+7I am surprised how stupid some comments are... Anyhow, most of my family was slightly overweight, everyone went into a diet, and we have lost (our whole family as a total) around 30 kilograms.
And we are not blaming the US, most of our food is actually quite greasy. - inactive, on 09/29/2008, -0/+6I will do my part in the US; ...just say no to sopaipillas
- ousthouse, on 09/30/2008, -3/+8Catch up the the US? This article says the obesity rate in Mexico is half.... everything I find says that it's between 30-40% in the USA.
I'm trying to stay healthy for my own benefit. We DON'T need the government to do it for us. - archer104, on 09/30/2008, -1/+6Fall behind? America is already fatter than Mexico.
- binky79, on 09/29/2008, -1/+6"Trans-fats? We don't need no steenking tans-fats!"
- charm803, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5Que ya no comas tacos, pues.
- mchisari, on 09/30/2008, -2/+7
"nearly half of its 110 million people are overweight"
Overweight, not obese. - lava, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5We've been eating that forever, and it's a lot healthier than american fast food.
- ptFoe, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4load of crap past Mexican civilizations have always had an abundance of food.
- rawnzilla, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Ay caramba!
- lazyrussian, on 09/30/2008, -1/+5I'm for that statement as well, as long as I don't have to pay for your medical bills.
- Daniel591992, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4http://www.sportsftw.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/0 ...
That's what it means... - Langford, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4It's not a fence, it's a belt. With all our weight gain, we need it to keep North America's pants from falling down.
- StriderNemesis, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4This is how it works for the Mexican population:
- If you want to inject an idea to the mind of a male, just put a lot of ads during soccer.
- For females, just put a lot of ads during telenovelas. - charm803, on 09/30/2008, -1/+5In many other cultures, being a bit meaty is considered a sign of wealth, especially compared to the famine other countries face.
I wish Mexico would focus the energy on the violence they have going on. I stayed in Mexico for 6 weeks and let me tell you, never again. It's not the Mexico I once knew. - StriderNemesis, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3And there's a lot of demand for them, because they're pretty rare.
- thegrantman, on 09/30/2008, -3/+6Mexicant....too fat to jump the fence.
- montanask8, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3speakin o which whats yours mean?
- BertEatsDirt, on 09/30/2008, -2/+5Wrong! Weight is the government's business if the government spends any money on health. There are many many other health problems that come from obesity, all of which = $$ for a health system to fix up. It's in the best interest of taxpayers (= voters, = the government) to keep these costs down, therefore obesity is the government's business.
- Richandler, on 09/30/2008, -1/+4I for one don't want the government doing anything about my health. It's my own damn business.
- ousthouse, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Catch up the the US? This article says the obesity rate in Mexico is half.... everything I find says that it's between 30-40% in the USA.
- jmnormand, on 09/30/2008, -3/+6well obviously mexico is catching up... all the skinny mexicans ran across the border...
- raindogmx, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3With the invasion of US franchises, most americans speaking spanish, and the dollar soon falling 1 to 1 to the peso that will not be a problem anymore.
- homescrubb, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3mexico's taco stands are ***** amazing!
- homescrubb, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3went to mexico in January... the obesity was one of the first things i noticed. the article does not exaggerate the problem
- thewump, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Skinny Latina chicks are hot!
- thetanman, on 09/30/2008, -1/+4That goes for us, too. I lost 25-30lbs. Before I used to drink 2-6 cokes per day, now I drink maybe a couple a month. They don't even taste that good to me anymore. Viva tea and water!
- GohanGVO, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Soda consumption is ridiculous in Mexico. The drink is stocked so well and is so cheap that it has become fiscally responsible to choose it over plain old water. Sad, really.
