- inactive, on 07/21/2009, -6/+56That's what you get for eating at McDonalds

"Symptoms include fatigue, abdominal pain, vomiting and fever and can appear from 15 to 50 days after exposure."
Aren't those the same symptoms you develop from eating anything at McDonalds anyway? Only, in the case of eating the actual food, they appear quite readily. - xonkonog, on 07/21/2009, -3/+35Thats what you get when you buy your food from people who hate their job.

- inactive, on 07/21/2009, -1/+15My grandma always said that ***** would kill me, maybe she had a point.
- adamward, on 07/21/2009, -3/+17Thats *****, I usually only get a Hot Wheels in my happy meal.
- PorkTornado1102, on 07/21/2009, -3/+16yeah, that is probably the safest thing in the food.
- Peynis, on 07/21/2009, -0/+12That and the countless other, more obvious health-risks.
- CocaCola88, on 07/21/2009, -0/+10don't re-post someone else's comment
- paloooz, on 07/21/2009, -3/+13I'm lovin' hepatitis A.
- judicar, on 07/21/2009, -7/+17buried for "(MY'-luhn)"
- t0ny, on 07/21/2009, -4/+12No McDonalds symptoms happen a lot sooner.
- inactive, on 07/21/2009, -0/+7yea because it can never ever EVER happen in any of the other quadrillion food joints and restaurants, only McDs are affected by Hep A...
BTW how will you be "more careful while eating at MC Donald's"? Do you have some sort of psychic powers to tell if the worker that made your food is infected? Or maybe you will scan every burger you eat there? Well good luck with that... - kiwii84, on 07/21/2009, -0/+7I lived in Rock Island for many years and can tell you that Milan isn't really a town people like going to. I passed through it all the time but even I know better than to go to the crappy McDonalds there. Also, if you are from Illinois then you know that it is pronounced differently from the city in Italy. We're a little ghetto in Rock Island.
- Kakaze, on 07/21/2009, -0/+7It DID happen in the US. Or is Illinois suddenly part of Canada?
- JMilton, on 07/21/2009, -3/+9Diseases are the only natural thing that goes into McDonald's food.
- Astark, on 07/21/2009, -1/+6That's what you get for ***** Grimace without a condom.
- Roulette, on 07/21/2009, -1/+6As if we needed yet another reason not to eat McDonalds.
- Leviathan433, on 07/21/2009, -0/+5So what, McDonalds exposes people to heart disease and diabetes every day - what is one more ailment?
- sensolock, on 07/21/2009, -1/+5Hepatitis A, the A stands for Awesome!
- yocouchdigga, on 07/21/2009, -0/+4but what's going to happen to the worker?
- mardraum, on 07/21/2009, -1/+5that must be what they mean when they say Obama isn't a citizen. makes sense now.
- Wilddigi, on 07/21/2009, -1/+5Wear ***** gloves
- judicar, on 07/21/2009, -1/+5sweet success
- johnsmith555, on 07/21/2009, -0/+4I guess The Hamburgler realized that chemical warfare is more effective.
- dianebl, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3He didn't GIVE it to 10,000 people. 10,000 people were exposed. That means they ordered food at the McDonalds while he was working.
And since it takes two weeks for symptoms to show up, 10,000 people is quite reasonable. It must not have been that busy a McDonalds.
Chances are, he didn't even know he had it. - DaDrake, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3Well from what I know, its not that contagious. As long as the individual insures none of his stool gets into the food (aka.. he washes his hands) its going to be difficult to transmit the disease. Thus in the future, making him wear gloves is going to be more than sufficient in stopping the spread of the disease.
Why do health officials make a big-to-do about it? Because, if you know you been exposed, you have a window of 2 weeks to stop the virus in your body. Take the drug, stop the virus... take the vaccine ... no worries. - Helspawn, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3You forgot the "ba-da-ba-ba-ba"
- deltron, on 07/21/2009, -1/+4These fast food places and whatnot are an easy way for people like that to spread epidemics. Put on your tinfoil and eat at home!
- s0nicfreak, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3Condoms?
- s0nicfreak, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3Hepatitis A can be transmitted via food, HIV can not.
- edebolt, on 07/21/2009, -1/+4Hep A/B is very common and while unpleasant it goes away without complication in the vast percentage of people. Get a grip. This wasn't ebola, Hep C or the plague. Get the Hep A/B vaccine and eliminate or minimize even getting symptoms the next time you contract it..
- m444mule, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3I know what you mean. I rarely consider Illinois to be a part of the States.
- DrunkenPirate34, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3Only, in the case of eating the actual food, they appear quite readily. t0ny he already said it.
- Kakaze, on 07/21/2009, -3/+5I thought the Huffington Post was better than this. This is one of the most horribly written articles I've ever seen: there's absolutely no explanation at all about how this happened. Was the guy spitting into the food? Did he slit his wrists over the milkshake machine? How the ***** could he give this to 10000 people without *someone* noticing?
Also, since when does your employer have to be notified of your medical status if it doesn't impair your functioning? Millions of people have HIV and work in food service but they're making this sound like the employee and the store were obligated to report his status. There are laws concerning medical privacy for a reason.
It doesn't make sense. - sonofabiscuit, on 07/21/2009, -0/+2Thus "they appear quite readily"
- CowGoesMooo, on 07/21/2009, -1/+3MC Donald? Is that MC Hammer's brother?
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1people got ill no matter how you slice it
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1It is the virus's fault. The public health officials did their job. The article does not explain how/when/where the individual got infected.
It is a public health threat when there is an outbreak like this emanating from the food product or service industry. So the public is interested. End of story. - JohnnySoftware, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1Regardless of whether intent, malice, negligence, or mere accidents are the cause.
- zebraz, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1One you contract hep A you have it for life.
You can't get it again because you already have it.
Actually you are immune to ever getting it again. - fxu1989, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1Oh... I read Milan and thought of Italy :(
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/21/2009, -1/+2FTA: Murphy said in the statement. "No one ill knowingly worked in our restaurant once we were notified."
That is like saying, "no cows that our meat packer slaughtered realized they had an e. coli infection".
The employees are a resource. McDonald's itself produces the product. They control the environment in their eateries, especially in the back half where the food is prepared and served to the public.
It would be interesting to know how & where this employee picked up hepatitis A so that people can be pretty reassured that other McDonald's employees are net getting infected the same way. Not knowing makes it a little difficult to assume that. - JohnnySoftware, on 07/21/2009, -1/+2Not a surprise. McDonald's has gone far downhill in the past decade.
- inactive, on 07/21/2009, -2/+3This is obviously the company's fault, not some dumb ***** worker's.
Right everyone? Because corporations are evil? - MidnightFox, on 07/21/2009, -1/+2hay my lil podunk town is on digg. yea from those ive talked to the ass hole that worked there also lives in the trailor park i live in. and we're being told that any one thats gone to the post office has to get checked too.

I'm so glad to live here! yay! hep. A for everyone! - jleack, on 07/21/2009, -1/+2That's pretty gross.
