- bixby1, on 08/14/2008, -3/+28I like that us singles are getting healthier. The key is not having a wife that tells me not to drink the five extra beers before I go to bed. I can't deal with that kind of stress. That's just unhealthy.
- CATSCEO2, on 08/14/2008, -8/+31For ***** sake, just take the advice. Quit trying to turn something as simple as that into a Atheist/Christian debate.
- sgiffy, on 08/14/2008, -5/+26Well its is easier to be single today. We have more technology, there is less social pressure, and people tend to have more family like friendships.
I think it is not so marriage, but having a rewarding life, a good support group, and a right attitude. Marriage has traditionally been a way to get those things, but now we are figuring out other ones. - happywaffle, on 08/14/2008, -0/+21Before-marriage dinner: microwave 49-cent chicken pot pie.
After-marriage dinner: organic chicken dishes, lots of veggies, salads, etc.
So, yeah. Healthier and happier. I still miss my Totino's pizzas, though. - bootle, on 08/14/2008, -2/+22Say it with me folks: correlation does not imply causation
- MrErr, on 08/14/2008, -0/+15Strangely though i gained 20lbs after marriage.
- aquafire, on 08/15/2008, -0/+10Marriage is challenging, but fun too. Then again, I also think my wife is pretty awesome. I figure, if you can't find someone you're willing to share your life with, you probably shouldn't get married until you can. And, if you can't share your life at all, then anyone who would otherwise marry you is better off anyway.
But, to state the obvious, one of the reasons married people are generally healthier than unmarried ones is that unhealthy people are less likely to get married or stay married. Humans just tend to seek out healthy people to partner with, not unhealthy ones. - puppyfox, on 08/14/2008, -1/+11Improvement must be from the great benefits of masturbation from the article the other day. Hard to find the privacy to do it "more than 5 times a week" with spouse/kids around :)
- ..eD, on 08/15/2008, -0/+9Bob: Hey Fred, you notice how the nursing home is full of single elderly women? Why does the husbands tend to die first?
Fred: Because they want to. - rickosborne, on 08/14/2008, -28/+36Bottom line - healthy relationships = healthy people. In the book of Genesis, God said "It's not good for people to be alone."
- mixsense, on 08/14/2008, -2/+10You know you don't have to marry a nagging bitch if you don't want to. Just because your dad did doesn't mean you have to.
- aquafire, on 08/15/2008, -0/+7Genesis 2:18 (New International Version)
The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."
heh, it's pretty close - threemagic, on 08/14/2008, -1/+7That's because a good portion of the un-marriable is already unhealthy in some way shape or form.
- badenglishihave, on 08/14/2008, -1/+7I know man, I'm lonely too.
- kalvinb, on 08/14/2008, -1/+7Single people stay healthy to impress potential mates.
Married people stay healthy because the wife won't let the husband spend money on junk food.
Also, married people tend to have better jobs with better health care which means they can afford to go to the doctor.
I couldn't afford health insurance when I was single so I dropped it. It wasn't until I got married and had a baby on the way that it was no longer optional. - T440, on 08/14/2008, -0/+5That's what I was sort-of thinking. Maybe they're looking at this research backwards.
- happywaffle, on 08/14/2008, -6/+11Upvoted just to cancel out the zillion of people who will crucify you (see what I did there?) just for making an innocuous religious reference.
- kalvinb, on 08/14/2008, -0/+5I'd start by becoming an English Major.
- leerayIG88, on 08/14/2008, -8/+12I prefer to stay single, thank you very much!
- Totz83, on 08/14/2008, -3/+7I really need to find a spouse
- grodrigu, on 08/14/2008, -0/+4I thought this was gonna have pictures showing stats from all over the world.
- Sardonic2U, on 08/15/2008, -1/+4As is said,
Married people live longer than single folks, but are more willing to DIE than their single counterparts.....
Anyone for a list of reasons....
1. Vanilla vs Ben and Jerry's variety pack. - cubicledrone, on 08/15/2008, -1/+4Marriage is the only legal agreement that can be unilaterally canceled while still obligating the other party. As a husband, you have more rights buying a lawnmower at a garage sale than you do in your marriage.
- Twee, on 08/15/2008, -0/+3I completely agree. I never want to get married. There are no benefits for a man to get married, it's just a legal contract to give away half of your stuff to the woman.
- kalvinb, on 08/14/2008, -0/+3I don't think anyone is "unmarriable"
Have you seen Jerry Springer? - Zootex, on 08/14/2008, -3/+6Far out, what a ***** waste of time research topic, like there is some definitive difference, where do i score ***** jobs like this?
- 5urr3al5am, on 08/15/2008, -1/+4that's probably because you think of yourself as 'off the market' -- or whatever, and have stopped trying
- mbdesigns, on 08/14/2008, -7/+9*Drives Up*
I DISAGREE!!!
*Drives off* - Chrissy990, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2A lot of single people are younger and may not have the greatest jobs or insurance. As they get older, they hopefully get a better job and by the time they are married, they have better insurance. Some people may also decide not to get married and have kids until they have a better job and insurance or like kalvinb, not get insurance until married. I can see why more single people don't have the same insurance as married people, but in many cases it is because of their age or job rather than the fact that they are single.
- xptoast, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2Round is a shape right? Stick figure is a shape right? At least I have somewhere to go:)
- sgiffy, on 08/14/2008, -29/+31Bible =/= evidence.
- hakkola, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2Couldn't you argue that unhealthy people are less likely to be found attractive, and as such less likely to get married? Not that ugly/unhealthy people don't get married, but I imagine this would skew the results somewhat.
Edit - looks like aquafire beat me to it, but I still won't delete this comment, because I'm awesome. - inactive, on 08/14/2008, -3/+5and least sexed.
- Twee, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2How do married people have better jobs with better health care than unmarried people? You probably meant to say that they get dual health insurance coverage when both spouses work.
- JmactheAttack, on 08/14/2008, -1/+3In my opinion, it is all about the social health of one another. Its all about 'personal fitness', which involves physical, mental, social, and nutritional.
Being married to another person is great because it gives you a shoulder to cry on all the time. You shouldn't need to bottle up all the stress (which is unhealthy btw!) and that is why marriage can be a good thing. - errfunction, on 08/15/2008, -1/+3I call *****.
- feureau, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1Dammit! We're not in Soviet Russia! Singleness did not chose YOU!!!
- antonio97b, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1Tell that to Donnie.
- duggdowncatisad, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1Never underestimate the value of technology allowing porn to be viewed in private residences.

- Vesper73, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1Marriage blows! Anyone who says otherwise is selling something.
- maz2331, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1So did I, but I was 15 pounds underweight. Too much work, too much partying, and sometimes skipping eating for entire days.
That ends when you get married. - 5urr3al5am, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1ahhh damn.. totally owned
- puppyfox, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1"Private" residencies? You remind me of my college years! I have plenty of porn at home, but it's not that private with a family around. Sometimes my wife gets in cahoots with me to watch it though. Giggity. Giggity.
- RunningboardV2, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1this makes me nervous. any cute female diggers want to marry? we'll submit our vows to digg.
