So, just so it isnt a surprise next time, Cannabis can be used for Food, Fuel, and Fiber. Marijuana is medicine that is effective against anything from the wasting from AIDS or Cancer to muscle spasms and migraine headaches. It has proven to reduce the size of tumors in lab rats and reduces the number one killer of adults in America....stress.
Noone has ever died from smoking or ingesting cannabis in any way. Noone has ever gotten cancer from smoking marijuana.
The fact that this wonderful plant cant be used, especially when America is in such tough financial times, is totally due to the
corruption of the lawmakers and the ignorance of the people. - mtrip, on 10/10/2008, -8/+113In other news, bears ***** in the woods.
- EnterReality, on 10/10/2008, -6/+73You know we could gain around 40 billion dollars on the federal and state level if we stopped this silly war on drugs. Not even getting at the money we would make by taxing it.
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -5/+64 "Marijuana gives rise to insanity -- not in its users but in the policies directed against it. A nation that sentences the possessor of a single joint to life imprisonment without parole but sets a murderer free after perhaps six years is in the grips of a deep psychosis."
Eric Schlosser - Jamminn, on 10/10/2008, -8/+63Erm, and this is news?
- a1cd, on 10/10/2008, -6/+57If we legalize weed we will have a food shortage...
- theWaterboy, on 10/11/2008, -6/+35i can't wait until pot is legal
- cli006, on 10/11/2008, -0/+26Too bad jury nullification isn't around anymore. The only reason marijuana hasn't been legalized yet is because of tax problems and considering it's our nation's number 1 cash crop.. there's a lot of money there if we could find a way to tax it.
What exactly is the point of spending millions and millions on the DEA? Marc Emery claims he grew more pot than the entire DEA could confiscate in a single year. So one man pretty much neutralized millions in funding for raids.
I mean EVERYONE uses it, I don't see how we can call everyday people criminals for smoking an all natural plant that provides nothing but benefits. I have met a ton of users, they're parents, lawyers, doctors, fishermen, students, everyday regular hard-working people.
The more facts we spread the better, there are still so many ignorant people that understand nothing about marijuana. I have gotten into huge debates with people completely blind to research, they still believe that marijuana belongs in the same category as cocaine and LSD.. I guess those classic old US Gov. propaganda films that portray marijuana users as insane suicidal rapists actually convinced a lot of people those were the real effects. - inactive, on 10/10/2008, -6/+30no ***** *****
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -0/+23Driving high is about 1,000 times less dangerous than driving hammered. When I'm high, I am so paranoid about cops that I drive slowly and perfectly.
- euphoria860, on 10/10/2008, -5/+28BREAKING NEWS: duh.
- ImUrStranger, on 10/10/2008, -6/+28"LEGALIZE IIIIT"
- yolanda1222, on 10/11/2008, -1/+21I'm becoming increasingly convinced that this country will collapse before weed is ever legal
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -7/+26I'm former military, I have a decent job where I'm self employed, and yeah... I occasionally smoke weed. So what? When I smoke it relaxes me, makes me laugh and generally just trip out on normal everyday stuff. I was watching the news last night with my friend and I was like "dude... dude... the stock market man... I finally get it...." And yeah, I always knew what the stock market was, but it seemed to make much more sense when I was paying so much attention to what they were talking about. No one kills anyone when they're high, they chill and watch trippy movies. Big ***** deal. America I behind, it's sad.
- OuijaCat, on 10/11/2008, -7/+24Alcohol & Tobacco are major cash-cows for the taxing entities (otherwise - their possession would be subject to the harshest penalties - proportionate to the damage they inflict)
Drugs DO NOT cause crime - it's their ILLEGALITY that causes violent crime! - toasty168, on 10/11/2008, -1/+17Hey, what's wrong with LSD?
- Philophobic, on 10/11/2008, -3/+18That chart is wrong.
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -0/+15Also ...
and you might want to sit down for this ...
Clay Aiken is gay. - DrywallThief, on 10/10/2008, -5/+17No *****. Isn't this common knowledge by now? It's even healthier with a vaporizer and cooking (yay for firecrackers). ^_^
- unitedkronos, on 10/11/2008, -0/+12What about drinkers? it's one thing to ban something and another to teach common sense.
- WiseWeasel, on 10/11/2008, -0/+12How the ***** is marijuana at an equal risk of dependence as amphetamines? That's insane.
- NikoKun, on 10/11/2008, -0/+12Umm, hello? Why?
Do you ever question what you are told?
If the world acted as you just did, we'd never have any progress... -_- - CommonSense2k8, on 10/10/2008, -5/+18It's only illegal cause it is tough to tax and control... so many interests, from oil, to alcohol, pharmaceuticals, to paper and clothing would be impacted negatively....... so they criminalize a plant....
screwed up system we got - NeonDistraction, on 10/11/2008, -3/+14Yes, but us potheads have short memories.
- yournightmare, on 10/11/2008, -1/+12Actually marijuana isn't in the same category as cocaine. Cocaine is a Schedule II controlled substance, which means it is available for use, and it's often used as a local anesthetic. Believe it or not, methamphetamine is also Schedule II and is available in pill form with a prescription. But for some reason marijuana is Schedule I, which is the most restrictive schedule. Go figure.
- yolanda1222, on 10/11/2008, -0/+11According to The Economist, marijuana is by far California's largest agricultural export. We would stand more to gain than any other state.
But we would still be bankrupt, because our state government sucks. They somehow manage to accomplish even less than Congress.
More money for the government means more money for the government to piss away.
But yeah. Legalize that *****. Drug cartels would wilt before the efficiency of corporate mass production. After all, why isn't the mafia still pushing booze? - max1018, on 10/10/2008, -0/+10This is the monthly story for this month.
- whahaa, on 10/11/2008, -0/+10***** THE DEA
- JillianSwift, on 10/11/2008, -0/+10Legality has no effect on health. Why it's illegal is a matter of enforced morality and therefore immaterial to the story.
- dafragsta, on 10/11/2008, -0/+10That was satire right?
- IgorUnchained, on 10/11/2008, -0/+9There are studies on that as well....and if I remember correctly, driving impaired is a crime. They dont ban cough medicine or over the counter allergy medication because of that fact.
That has NOTHING to do with it's illegality and a few seconds of logical thought would confirm that.
http://www.fcda.org/driving.htm - Gleemonex, on 10/11/2008, -1/+10THIS JUST IN: Oxygen Less Harmful to Health than Nitrogen or Chlorine!!
- NikoKun, on 10/11/2008, -1/+10Gotta keep reminding people... As soon as you let such important facts fade, the Anti-Drug moralists will just create more *****-overthetop lies, to scare the ignorant.
- Shadoblak, on 10/10/2008, -4/+13Wasn't a story exactly like this front paged like a month ago..
- Bmur90, on 10/11/2008, -1/+10pretty sure that's a stereotype. I know plenty of people who smoke weed and are successful in both their careers and in school. So saying that all potheads are unproductive and good for nothing is completely wrong. Get some facts.
- DyersEve06, on 10/11/2008, -1/+9Lets Not confuse Pot with crack sir. Being from Cleveland i think i would know.
- xB4R7x, on 10/11/2008, -0/+8Inhaling smoke isn't 'good' for you... but marijuana in itself is not bad for you. Ever think about eating it?
- jman583, on 10/10/2008, -14/+22I like to use this chart:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Rational_scale_ ... - bdawg123, on 10/11/2008, -1/+9Ice cream isn't good for you either. What's your point?
- iscurt, on 10/11/2008, -1/+9what are you on play?
- OuijaCat, on 10/11/2008, -5/+12Unfortunately, Obama's running mate disagrees with most Diggers:
http://stopthedrugwar.org/chronicle_blog/2008/aug/ ...
And...Obama, himself, once willing to discuss the issue, has been whipped into line - and will not even answer questions about marijuana decriminalization - so much for "leadership". - charmaniac, on 10/10/2008, -8/+15Either way, there are most definitely negative ramifications for smoking marijuana. I smoke it almost every day. If you believe you can be a chronic smoker without it making you less healthy, you are deluding yourself.
That said, alcohol has destroyed far more lives than marijuana. I see young men getting into fights/arguments every other time I go to a bar. I have never seen stoned people get violent. Not to mention the drinking and driving issue... - SpeedSteamBoat, on 10/11/2008, -1/+8Vaporization. I rest my case.
- searcade, on 10/11/2008, -0/+7The moon is moving away at a tiny, although measurable distance from the earth every year. Do the math and you will clearly see that 85 million years ago it was orbiting the earth at a distance of about 35 feet from the earth's surface. This would explain the death of the dinosours; the tallest ones, anyway.
In space, astronauts cannot cry, because there is no gravity, so the tears can't flow.
also in other news...The waters of the Planetary Ocean contain silver - 0.3 mg/m3 and gold - 0.008 mg/m3. The total quantity of gold is 11 billion tons, but its concentration is unprofitable for extraction.
oh and...Your fingernail has the same ingredients as fly poop.
Your eye will focus on about 50 things per second.
Your eye expands up to 45% when looking at something pleasing.
You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching television. - inactive, on 10/11/2008, -0/+7so does the pope, according to sources...
- BobbyMC, on 10/11/2008, -0/+7So either you support the criminalization of alcohol or you don't understand pot at all. It affects the body in drastically different ways, and endless studies have proven that people drive better under the influence of weed as opposed to alcohol. It's not even really a matter of how high or drunk you are, as the root of the difference is in the fact that marijuana affects the body quite differently.
In the theoretical world where alcohol was illegal and weed was elgalized, you would still have incidences of accidents caused by intoxication, but they would assuredly be far less frequent and the average severity would itself be lower, as while drunks tend to drive aggressively, someone who is stoned is likely going to do little more than drift lanes at low speed assuming their sub conscious burns out.
But beyond driving, in that world people would of course not face the strong risks of alcohol use, and rather only the risks of smoking marijuana. Since vaporized marijuana is inherently more enjoyable, a vast majority of people would invest in something like a pocket vaporizer you'd be able to buy at a store for cheap. The rest would still be doing less damage than if they were smoking tobacco. - inactive, on 10/11/2008, -1/+7Really? Why not?
- stack3r, on 10/11/2008, -3/+9long time every day drinker here, 3 words "drug induced psychosis". No responsible person would legalise the sale and taxation of this substance for recreation!
oh wait - KaiUno, on 10/11/2008, -0/+6It's REEFER MADNESS I tell ya! MADNESS!
