- UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -12/+145For the last time marijuana is an evil voodoo drug that gives immigrant Mexicans super powers that cause American workers to lose jobs.
Believe it or not, that was the original "truth" given as to why they were making it illegal. - argoff, on 10/12/2007, -6/+107How Ironic. The DEA is a cancer when it comes to US rights and liberty.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+111Again, marijuana has no proven lasting ill effects. All of that mumbo-jumbo was Prohibition era (as in 1930s) propaganda. In the 50s the government made many films stating basically this: we don't know that marijuana has any long term health declining effects, but we didn't think that of alcohol and cigarettes and we were wrong (I guess when administered properly aspirin is still gonna git ya!). Nixon made Elvis a special DEA informant agent, and we all know how he died.
Basically, there is no evidence that pot will harm you. Ever. It may make you act in a manner that you may not like, including lazy and withdrawn, but not all people experience the same effects. People differ personally. And marijuana is a bomb to the big pharmaceutical companies plans. - pwallroth, on 10/12/2007, -7/+87Marijuana also kills boredom

Apparently, making the government and it's lobbyist rich is far more important than facts. - zappo1776, on 10/12/2007, -9/+59Well then it's settled. Lets legalize it and get on with more important business.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+58so does tobacco and alcohol but that isn't illegal and alochol is probably is even/more addictive than marijuana.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+56Actually, no it does not. If you ever find a peer-reviewed medical journal entry using modern science that actually states that I will believe you once you produce it. I will be waiting for the end of never.
- metalhead3767, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42dukrous it says THC will kill aging cancer causing cells.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+41I'm drinking red wine. I should be getting stoned and eating grapes. Double cancer killing power!

- littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37If you could patent pot, it would have been legal long ago.
- osmow, on 10/12/2007, -11/+44LEGALIZE IT !
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35Legalize all drugs, then let the addicts kill themselves. Problem solved.
- supermanred, on 10/12/2007, -8/+36Dugg for "suck it DEA!"
Marijuana should be legalized. - stuartjmoore, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30I dare you to find anything that can't be harmful somehow...
- dukrous, on 10/12/2007, -8/+34Killing a carcinogen is not a cure for cancer. If you have cancer, you cannot smoke marijuana as a cure. It may serve better to call it a vaccine since it prevents cancer. But it's not the first vaccine for cancer, nor proven as a vaccine.
- ciro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25I don't understand why you people continue to give such ridiculous titles to your articles. A biased (and inaccurate) title like this is going to get dugg down by every person like me who actually cares about intellectual honesty. Stoners and supporters of legalization (such as myself... the latter, not the former) are going to read any article having to do with marijuana, so the inaccurate sensationalist titles are really unnecessary. Why not either take the title directly from the actual article (in this case "Researchers surprised to find no link between marijuana, lung cancer") or at least make an accurate title that reflects the actual findings of the research? When you make inaccurate titles to these kinds of articles, all you do is hurt your cause, and help to perpetuate myths. Something like 60% of all articles dugg are never actually read. People just read the titles and short descriptions and take it on faith that the articles are true. Taking that into consideration, even though the actual article is good, I have to dig this down for the inaccurate title. Nowhere in the article does it say "marijuana kills cancer." The closest I see it coming to that is saying that the results *suggest* there may be a *protective* effect....
Bulletproof vests have a protective effect, but wearing one won't kill your enemies. - pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -12/+37"Why are people digging down KrazyKoala? He is right, and hasn't been offensive, etc."
I can explain why .. it's because people/kids on Digg only hear what they want to hear, not necessarily the truth (although it could be). - CoffeeandTV, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26You, sir, are a moron. People can think just fine without the use of marijuana.
- bostonsoxfan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Do people realize there are more than one type of THC in cannabis. Delta Nine THC is the one that makes you high, Delta Six and Delta three are two other types being looked at that do not cause a high.
- ajpiano, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20I smoked pot every day of 2006.
I also wrote two musicals, recorded an EP, edited a magazine, acted in a play, designed several whitepapers and websites, renovated and moved into a new apartment, started an improv and variety group, pulled a 3.7 GPA, and made more money than I had in any prior year of my life.
You can be stupid, lazy, and unmotivated without the aid of marijuana, and you can be stupid, lazy, and unmotivated if you smoke constantly. My experience has shown me that it's the user, not the drug, that truly controls the effect.
Now I'm just relieved that I'm not going to get cancer. - killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25Learn the truth.

- DaFunk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17@Alyy
Smoking doesn't make your brother or anyone else stupid, lazy or unmotivated. It just makes them not care and even gives them an excuse to be those things. It's nice to have pot as a scape goat, but maybe it would be more constructive to look at the person smoking it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21Let's elect Ron Paul and see if we can't change that perception.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Yeah it makes you think -- but unfortunately, you can't remember what you were just thinking a min...wait....what were we just talking about?
- glasgowm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17There are other carcinogenic agents in smoke. That can cause throat cancer, etc.
Thats why vaporizers/hash brownies are your best bet.
Legalize hash brownies! not one downside!! - CoffeeandTV, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Also, the title in inaccurate!
THC does not kill cancer, it is merely a preventative agent. - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19FTFA
"while moderately heavy usage was defined as smoking 11,000 to 22,000 marijuana cigarettes."
OMG Someone should tell these people about using a pipe!
Smoking all that paper can't be too good for you. - rbtopp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12@headzoo - Tobacco is not easy to grow. Marijuana is very easy to grow. Theres a reason its called weed.
- 13B1303, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I don't smoke the hippie lettuce, but I don't have anything in particular against it or the people that choose to smoke it. Legalize it and I'll be first in line to invest in "big marijuana". Tax it a little like Alcohol and Cigs so I don't have to pay so many damn taxes. Cut about 1/2 of the DEA budget and allocate it toward hard drug users rehab facilities. This would also free up millions of dollars in prison / court costs. This would also eliminate a lot of criminal opportunity. You can't make it as a drug dealer if you can get the same product cheaper at your local liquor shop. How many boot-leggers are still runnin shine? Farm it here in the states so our hard earned greenbacks stay with American products and people and out of Columbia, Mexico, Afganastan. I think America as a whole would benefit in the long run from the legalization of marijuana after a few years of hysteria.
- HullCrushDepth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14For instance the members of The Beatles were complete failures as human beings. Sounds to me like the people you know are just losers.
- jftitan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15... ok... update to his comment.
Marijuana, makes you think more about what you are about to do. AND/OR what your new inspirational ideas mean... however, Marijuana also makes you realize how ***** pointless many things are. Oh and it also makes you realize that its just not worth the effort... just sit there... and be happy... w00t! Weed for the masses! - AlexApetrei, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12man has a point, let nature take it's course ... , and see what happens ... you know .
- DaFunk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12@ v1be
This is not meant to be condescending, but I know it'll come across that way. What you're experiencing is both part of college and a part of the maturation process. You have "kids" who for the first time are away from home and have access to anything they want. All their D.A.R.E. lessons are out the window, as peer pressure and curiosity trump all. Some don't do drugs at all, some experiment eventually finding a balance and others will let drugs consume them. It does suck that you have "friends" trying to humiliate you by staying clean, but obviously you can see the benefits of your actions. You can try talking to them about their problems, but most of the time it's just a matter of letting them work their drug curiosity out of their system, or having something bad happen to wake them up. Just remember that there is a difference between responsible drug use and drug abuse. - wafflez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13this was on ebaumsworld forums a looong time ago...one of the best posts ever made read: "Weed may not cause cancer, but it sure as hell causes world hunger"
- arpnuke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14gregfadein, Cocaine is physically addictive.
- Rikkochet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Or I could just block you for playing that juvenile "digg me up if you agree" game...
- javip, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15For those saying you don't remember what you thought about or that at the time you think it's an amazing idea and turns out not to be etc.. my main point isn't that you smoke it, think deeply and change the world.
My point is simply that it makes you think of things that you otherwise wouldn't have thought of.
You don't forget it afterwards in the sense that the experience gets totally wiped from your memory!
It's quite obvious that the people opposing it are extremely close minded.
They're the type of people that will automatically oppose something if it doesn't fit their small circle of pre-conceived beliefs and prejudices.. and that is what I mean by thinking.
Anyway luckily I live in Australia, where while not legal, getting caught with small amounts is only a slap on the wrist (not even a fine) and you can even semi-legally grow one plant at home.. you'll actually find it hard coming across a person here who hasn't at least tried it, and those that haven't and won't, tend to be at least more open minded and don't mind that you do.
So disagree all you want, it does open your mind, it doesn't make you into an instant lazy unproductive pothead, and health-wise it's a hell of a lot better for you than alcohol.
I actually feel sorry for all you sheep who only think it's such a bad thing because your government tells you it is.. - omnithought, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Did you even read the quote you just pasted there?
MAY kill AGING cells and keep them from BECOMING cancerous.
It doesn't kill an already active cancer, and it can't completely prevent one from growing, it simply reduces the chances of some kinds of cancers taking hold.
Go read your bible and caress your shotgun. - kevxross, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Alyy:
"Life is filled with moronic sheep."
Ironic. - fufubag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Are digg users a bunch of small minded, stereotyping turds? There are plenty of "pothead losers" who are smarter, and more successful (in whatever shallow way you may define success) than you are.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18""Again, marijuana has no proven lasting ill effects. " Wrong reply button. And no. I'm actually drinking."
dugg down for preferring alcohol. - bromac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Cocaine isn't addictive?
Yeah...'cause you know, nobody ever gets addicted to crack cocaine. Get your nose out of the candy bowl. - bromac, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18@PCGeek: I didn't ask any questions, well other than rhetorical. Which went over your intelligent head, I guess...
And I have moral standards, am financially successful, right out of high school by the way, and I'm intelligent too. And I smoke pot.
What makes you an anal conservative is that you actually care what someone does in their private life that does not affect any of these traits. If someone else smokes a joint, you're still rich, smart and a Christian.
Why does this matter so much to you that you spend time and effort espousing how bad it is? - theokandroid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11How many more reasons do we need!?
- gregfadein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9arpnuke said, "Cocaine is physically addictive."
From Wikipedia, "The risk of becoming cocaine-dependent within 2 years of first use(recent-onset) is 5-6%; after 10 years, it's 15-16%." ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cocaine#Addiction )
Let's take something you've done, regularly (at least once a week), for the the past 10 years of your life. Say, driving a car. Or brushing your teeth.
Are you likely to stop? Surely you could. Lots of people don't drive. We only discovered the toothbrush what, 100 years ago? These things clearly aren't essential. I bet a lot more than 16% of society would have severe difficulties trying to entirely rid their lives of automobiles. Would you say they're addicted to them? I doubt it.
There's a strong difference between a user and an addict. People bandy about the idea of a coke addict because we've been taught that drugs are bad—and that anyone using them must certainly be an addict because why else would you do something so bad? This just isn't the case. When, after 10 years of constant cocaine use, 85% of people are easily able to up and quit cold turkey, it's pretty hard to seriously claim that the chemical itself is addictive.
Contrast this, of course, to cigarettes: most smokers hate them, they're absolutely terrible for you, and 80% of smokers will never, ever be able to quit. That's addiction. - straxus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@KrazyKoala
"Unfortunately most doubters are unlikely to have a university VPN access to search journal results, but believe me, psychosis can be triggered by marijuana. That said, you need to be genetically predisposed to be at risk of this trigger, which is why most pot smokers don't get schizophrenia."
And Nutrasweet and Equal can ***** you up if you have a genetic condition called phenylkenoturia. What's your point? - duuk2k2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Nice story, but it doesn't have to be smoked. Check marijuanavaporizer.com
