- Wonkanobi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39I do similar research on my couch a few nights per week.
- meshman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Its comments like this that make me want to quit smoking pot.
- cmiller1, on 10/12/2007, -8/+34unplugged boy, marijuana increases your APPETITE, they never said ANYTHING about it making you lazier. I know a drunk who never leaves their house except to get more vodka and hasn't showered in months, I know pot heads that bike 10+ miles a day. How about you take your unfounded biased opinions elsewhere?
- sonaro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Yeah, it's called 'the munchies.'
- mrspankeh, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23Marijuana helps *everyone* gain weight.
:( - leftfoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17About halfway through your post, did you just roll your face over you keyboard and click "Submit"?
- SearchX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Old guy: Duuuude, I could totally go for some mashed potatoes and Jell-O right about now.
- mikeneilson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17We used to call this phenomenon the "Freshman 15."
What do they prescribe, a water bong and a family-size box of Cheese-Its? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12You feed your grandparents dope?
- flashingcurser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Umm... These people were an average of 79 years old, the US life expectancy is 77. Yes, there is a very good likelihood that some will die.

- mortigon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I wonder what pothead scientist came up with this idea.
"Dude... let's give some old anorexics some pot and a bag of chips everyday for a month and see what they do." - burkewendt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12What do you think the over/under is on the amount of munchies jokes? id say about over 30 if this hits the front page
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8At least Marijuana is a pleasant alternative to other medications for 'increasing apatite', without having the same scary side effects.
If Marijuana can help someone, EVEN if there are other medications that can do it... why deny them a pleasant alternative?
But for that matter, Marijuana should be legalized even without any medical benefits... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13THC is also the only drug known to man that can help elderly suffering from anorexia to gain weight.
does marijuana need a medical reason to be legalized? - IlIlIlIlIlIl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Wow, this marijuana is some sort of miracle drug. Thanks Digg!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13I don't get it, this is very old news. Marinol and other marijuana extracts have been used for years to treat elderly and cancer patients with anorexia. It doesn't work all that great, but it works.
- Ru55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Your probably thinking of anorexia nervosa, which is just one type of anorexia caused by the fear of gaining weight. Anorexia is simply a medical term for the loss of appetite; we all get a form of it when we eat our fill.
- DyDx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@rooster: I thought about the same thing when I read the headline, but there is a difference between having anorexia because you believe in your head that you are fat, and having anorexia because you're old and your body and mind isn't functioning normally so you lose or diminish the normal, physiological cues that tell you that you are hungry and need food.
These are people who just have a significant loss of appetite, not some crazy idea that they're overweight. - thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11You must be one boring dude then.
- Cutkomp, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11I guess that unless you have ever dealt with folks who have eating disorders you may have a hard time understanding the need for something to help.
- Play, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yeah, I'm pretty sure sure pot stops anorexia in all age groups.
- usefuljenkins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Unplugged, why make a comment when you've got no validity behind what you say? As cmiller1 said, I'm a regular smoker who bikes 10+ miles a day. I think lazy people who smoke pot, tend to be lazy people. It's not the pot that does it.
- thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah, they already have a drug for this... can't remember the name of it... but doctors prescribe it all the time for cancer patients. It keeps their appetite up so that they can handle the treatments better.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5i thoguth anorexia was just for young skinny blond girls with a boatload of emo problems?
- kd1s, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Nearly every day news comes along that pot is beneficial. Bravo - MSM won't touch this because then they and their government master, ONDCP, would be proven wrong.
For example, the Providence Journal ran a series on addiction last year and they profiled this one girl and her trial and tribulations trying to get clean. She of course started with pot, then coke, then heroin. But my point is that pot is not a gateway drug, instead you have people for whom addiction is a serious problem and that addiction manifests itself in many ways.
In other words, it's a brain chemistry problem, not a problem with pot. It's the same thing that happened with phenylpropanolamine (PPA), it would kill certain females between the ages of 18 and 60. So now I can't get good allergy relief damn it. - Dudeee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I hate show stupid people make pot sound, I actually started to smoke pot because I was going through eating problems after I lost 90 pounds, and it helps me to eat I still smoke it to get myself to eat, it really helps. When I don't have it i don't feel hungry and wont eat for days.
All pot does is make your body relaxed, it doesn't make thing's funnier, doesn't make you better or worse at things. It can make you lazy but it also can make you more concentrated on the things you want to do. - kurttrail, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Marijuana helps *everyone* gain weight."
Actually not. I've lost weight toking every day and have gained weight while not toking over a period of time. - fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Copied from ru55's post down the comments:

damnit, I thought I told you to leave me alone! - pixelate, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5ha! All you "Legalize" hippies, take that-- MARIJUANA KILLS OLD PEOPLE!!!
- thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@mightyzug
Dude... it's got THC in it without all the other ***** from plant processing.... - fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@NoQuarter
I understand people not wanting to get high off their medication. Legalization would open the door to the development of marijuana without the psychoactive side-effect. - mightyzug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@fantasticflan
not with chemotherapy personally but i am in the medical field and have heard lots of testimonials for it.
i used to have a roommate with SEVERE IBS, among other health problems, it kept him from eating normally and he used pot. he also had some other long standing health issues since he was a small child including insomnia and some type of depressive disorder. he was 6'2'' and weighed about 140-150 lbs. i lived with this guy for several years, and it was physically impossible for him to eat more than a couple bites of anything, if he was not stoned he would just puke it up. the IBS was the most severe of his problems and i can't recall all the other ones, but i know he stopped taking 5 different prescription meds when his doc suggested pot and he has been much better off for it.
also for health concerns i would suggest vaporizing, it is healthier and more effective than smoking. check out the silver surfer vaporizer for a balance of quality and price. :) - fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not new, but hopefully building the momentum.
- CrookedSound, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So, supporting something on digg should be filtered out? Or just these folks due to the nature of what they are 'rambling' about?
Potheads...now is that a negative nickname or...what is your point?
50 points deducted from Slytherin for name calling!!!
Oh...I thought you meant Potter head. - ahoy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6@thcobbs
I'll live with that... and it'll be fun because I'll be high. - Heyseuss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No it isn't noob, it's firstly eating, secondly, a vaopriser. A joint is healthier than a bong however you need more weed to roll a joint than to make one bong hit, although if you only hit the joint once, you can get an equal high as to a bong hit, the difference is, bong hit's hit you and joints creep up. Still, a good farmer plus a good cook is the healthiest way to go.
- tanto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is a good news for a drug dealer too :)
Anorexia,Is it happen in the poor country too?

http://orangtuamurid.info/blog/?p=201 - fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do either of you have any first hand experience with this? Two people in my family have gone through extensive chemotherapy, baring legal problems, marijuana is the way to go, the alternatives don't work as well and bring their own problems.
- fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@flashingcurser
Liquor stores won't sell crack because it's illegal (other reasons I'm sure, but this one trumps), legal marijuana sellers wouldn't sell crack for the same reason. - Cmonkey67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah appetite cures everything...did you even read the story?
- flashingcurser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would also like to point out: your liqueur store never runs out of booze and if they did they wouldn't offer you crack as a substitute. Buying drugs from drug dealers creates is another reason for the gateway.
- Cmonkey67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...you're an idiot
- ZeroMP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It worked for me!
- RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is not new informaion. Marinol is often prescribed to patients in nursing homes and hospices to boost appetites and counter anorexia due to advanced dementia or other terminal illnesses.
- Nudar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why is this so surprising? I just prescribed "dronabinol" (an oral THC comtaining compound) to a patient of mine with poor appetite. It works and it's been an FDA approved indication for the medication for as long as I can remember.
