- RepublicofJosh, on 05/17/2009, -10/+277Does anybody else find it odd that the cure for cancer may lie in a flower that the United States has made illegal for the past 40 years? And for no apparent reason...
- L0C0loco, on 05/17/2009, -3/+102Summary: Pot gives the brain a really bad case of the munchies.
- 0mniscient, on 05/17/2009, -10/+86Smoke weed.
- yerdaddy, on 05/17/2009, -3/+79It's easy to use and good for just about everything. That's why it's illegal.
- BaphClass, on 05/17/2009, -2/+68I'm curing brain cancer, even as I type.
- b1gm1ke, on 05/17/2009, -1/+55cause you can't grow wd-40 and duct tape
- CaptainLando, on 05/17/2009, -5/+59The sample size was two, and there was no control study. "May" is the key word here, so let's not jump to any conclusions. Another more rigorous study needs to be done with a larger sample size and control group.
Also, before anyone brings it up, using a control in this type of study is ethically difficult, as you don't want to deny treatment to someone. However, methods exist to rectify that ethical issue (such as a switching replications design).
Edit: not trying to burst a bubble here. I hope it is shown to be effective. - twiztidsinz, on 05/17/2009, -0/+32There's plenty of reasons it's illegal.... http://www.ornorml.org/articles/quotes.php?search= ...
Just none of them are good or lawful (in today's courts) reasons. - clvngodess, on 05/17/2009, -7/+38Well goodness, how else will the insurance companies and health care agencies exploit illness and death? It is big business you know...
/s - osiris24x, on 05/17/2009, -3/+34America is good at doing things completely backwards and opposite of how it should be done. Take our measurement system for example. Marijuana is no exception.
- Coinspinner, on 05/17/2009, -7/+37Hemp oil cures cancer.
Quickly.
Completely.
www.phoenixtearsmovie.com <-- not a solicitation, they don't want your money. Some farmer's story about when he learned marijuana cures cancer..
For *****'s sake why is no one doing anything about this?! - Onji, on 05/17/2009, -2/+28Did Digg seriously just combine its love of marijuana with its power to constantly cure cancer three times a week into one article?
Next week's front page:
BREAKING: RON PAUL AND A MOUNTAIN GOAT USE MARIJUANA AND BACON TO CURE CANCER!!! - akphidelt, on 05/17/2009, -2/+28Serious question here. Would legalizing marijuana still result in drug tests if you work for a construction company or play sports?

- briLo, on 05/17/2009, -3/+21You may say that sarcastically but sadly it has more than an opiate of truth to it!
- CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -3/+21It's not a tumor!
- LemonMachete, on 05/17/2009, -3/+19
A valid point, sir. - Majora26, on 05/17/2009, -0/+15it can't help you save money on car insurance
- megaton, on 05/17/2009, -4/+19Aside from the fact that there are plenty of other drugs out there, understand that drug tests usually look for alcohol, too, so the legality of the substance usually isn't in question.
It's the effects of the drugs they're concerned with:
"Will my employee come to work stoned and hurt himself?" "Will my employee try to steal from me to feed a meth habit?" "Does this player have a drinking problem that's going to affect his performance?" - Delita, on 05/17/2009, -1/+16What can't marijuana do?
- redrabbit, on 05/17/2009, -3/+17This just confirms how much we need more legit research on the drug. Whether you think it should be decriminalized or not, if there are medical benefits to be had, we should be looking into them.
- KielKilla, on 05/17/2009, -3/+16It's illegal for a reason... because black people in America were using it a long time ago. No *****. I'll probably get dugg down but this is a huge factor as of why it is illegal.
- rarson, on 05/17/2009, -1/+14Drug tests do not screen for alcohol.
- EnergyEinstein, on 05/17/2009, -2/+14Because it sounds too good, and there aren't enough reputable sources (universities, governments or big companies) who are vouching for it; I have no idea if it works, just saying why people aren't believing it.
- midbc, on 05/17/2009, -0/+11marijuana even gives brain cancer the munchies
- teknomaker18, on 05/17/2009, -1/+12Convince stupid people it's not dangerous.
- shazbotben, on 05/17/2009, -2/+13Aside from the cancer in his brain, it also grew in his lungs, stomach, and liver. He avoided most modern forms of treatment in favor of methods that did not violate his religious beliefs. Simply smoking pot wasn't gonna cut it.
- uselessexpert, on 05/17/2009, -4/+15Don't worry, the FDA will find another excuse why Marijuana should not be legalized anyway.
I think even if it was found and proven that Marijuana cures AIDS, the government would still find away how to keep it illegal. - Majora26, on 05/17/2009, -5/+16So why aren't WD-40 and Duct Tape illegal?
- lsteve13l, on 05/17/2009, -2/+13feed upon themselves? it seems as if even cancerous cells can not resist the munchies.
- erikvonvicious, on 05/17/2009, -1/+11well if your going to use that dumb ass logic, language and math were invented elsewhere.
when you go down that road its only opinion that draws the line,
the facts are, this one crop has the ability to replace many many other crops and do it better at that, and ANYONE can grow it so it would be shooting a bunch of industries in the foot to make it legal,
cotton for cloths, corn for biofuels, many medicines, the list goes on and on... if you had a machine that could produce hydrogen from water and sunlight (and be efficient enough to make sense) would you expect power, oil, etc. to let it just bankrupt them? the US has no real industry left other than a few crops (like previously mentioned)anyways MJ could save the US or be the final kick in the teeth if we dont do something soon. the rest of the world wont wait for us to pull our heads out of our collective asses to take advantage of the need for these materials,(fuel, fiber) some small country could grow hemp where cotton couldnt even survive, and totally replace our cottton industry with a much better, stronger, and faster growing plant, And still save on labor to boot. - Swellin, on 05/17/2009, -0/+10Blind ignorance, its because of fools like you that this drug is being completely suppressed in just about every way even though it can help millions of people. Your ignorance is astounding.
- FurtThePirate, on 05/18/2009, -0/+10Play Crisis.
- gn84, on 05/17/2009, -1/+11The FDA has been killing more people than it "saves" for decades (obstruction of live-saving drugs; passage and legitimacy to bad ones). This is no different.
- KielKilla, on 05/18/2009, -0/+10Apparently not many people believed me. Harry J. Anslinger is the reason marijuana is illegal and he is widely known to be racist. http://www.heartbone.com/no_thugs/hja.htm
- inactive, on 05/17/2009, -2/+12briLo, your linguistic creativity is addictive!
- Coinspinner, on 05/17/2009, -5/+15Bubble not burst, trust me. Info first reported on 19 August 1974. Backed up by Spanish researchers in 2000 and later by Harvard.
Hemp-oil cures cancer. Quickly and completely. Works via two different mechanisms.
The main guilty party is the US "liberal" media who has effectively completely locked out this info. - NikoKun, on 05/17/2009, -0/+10Sorry man, but this is only 1 of MANY studies that have found similar results. Sure, this particular study's sample size was small...
There have been dozens of studies like it, with better sample sizes, and even more surprising results!

Black racism was used but not as much so as mexican racism. Hence the use of mexican word "marijuana" when we used to refer to is as hemp or cannabis. - Qbryzan, on 05/17/2009, -1/+10It would be unlikely, because the tests don't determine that you are high *right now*, they tell if you've been high *sometime in the past 6 weeks or so*. That kind of information isn't very useful when talking about a legal substance, and most businesses won't want to bear the costs for it.
- RoloTomasie, on 05/17/2009, -0/+9It's digg, you can use "THC."
- Coinspinner, on 05/18/2009, -0/+9really?
So slavery was legal because the "pros outweighed the cons"?
Or did the US Federal Government just in fact have some misguided and downright evil laws on the books? - dafragsta, on 05/17/2009, -0/+9http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn8155-marijua ...
I love how in the face of accurate information that not only falsifies the myth, but flat out contradicts it, people are still willing to perpetuate it. - macattak420, on 05/17/2009, -3/+12and fight brain cancer at the same time! win+win= double win
- NikoKun, on 05/17/2009, -1/+9That testicular cancer study was full of *****. I bet they'll never be able to duplicate the results... And even if they could, the risk/chances of it happening would be so slim, it might as well be non-existent.
Millions of people use Marijuana, and have for decades now, so where are the millions of testicular cancer cases?

The case FOR Marijuana fighting cancer is FAR stronger than for it causing cancer. =P - NikoKun, on 05/17/2009, -0/+8Are you from the 90s? Because people in this decade realized that the "killing brain cells" argument was complete madeup *****.
