- krekc, on 08/26/2008, -1/+200*fights urge to crack neck*
Dammit! - mecharabbit, on 08/27/2008, -2/+153Please, please, reassure me that manipulating the penis does not result in similar results.
- palehorse864, on 08/27/2008, -0/+113Bad news for anyone who is a victim of Ninjas.
That neck snap could lead to a stroke later on. - sockpuppets, on 08/27/2008, -0/+113I cracked mine and I'm perfectly f
- matthewaaron, on 08/27/2008, -1/+86you mean a STROKE?
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -1/+82That illustration is pretty scary, and kind of amusing at the same time. I've had a sore neck for weeks and lean to the right to stretch it (and it cracks) several times a day. Am I at risk for a stroke? Scary to think about.
- DaviDTC, on 08/27/2008, -0/+77Stroking your penis can lead to manipulation.
- Jaime2000, on 08/27/2008, -0/+61Dugg just for that picture.
- illdourmum, on 08/27/2008, -2/+61ucked
- aaronadms, on 08/26/2008, -0/+58I think this is more related to the severe adjustments that chiropractors do. You know, where they grab both sides of your head and almost break your neck Steven Seagal style.
- TwistableLime, on 08/27/2008, -1/+53i love cracking my neck. guess ill probably end up dying prematurely. o well, i had a good run.
- matthewaaron, on 08/27/2008, -4/+52"THE BOTTOM LINE: Forceful neck manipulation seems to carry a small risk of arterial tears. "
Not so much... 1.3 cases for every 100,000 isn't small, it's minuscule! (.0013%) - dannyboy3020, on 08/27/2008, -0/+42I cracked it after reading your comment.
- ianthepetrock, on 08/27/2008, -4/+44The end of the article explains it. People go to the see the chiropractor because of neck pains that are signs of strokes...
So the people were going to have a stroke no matter what. - Treshnell, on 08/27/2008, -1/+38I stroke whilst manipulating my penis.
- jc7012, on 08/27/2008, -2/+28Hmm...I'll have to consult my analrapist about this...
- EruditeGoof, on 08/27/2008, -0/+25And then I had a stroke. *****.
- matthewaaron, on 08/27/2008, -11/+36.0013% of people... this is hardly solid evidence.
- Bara, on 08/27/2008, -0/+23Must... fight... urge...
- Synchro, on 08/27/2008, -0/+22No no. nothing like this. Just the normal stuff, hairy palms and poor eye sight.
- bjornski, on 08/27/2008, -0/+21If I don't crack my neck about every 15 minutes, I can hardly move my head.
Looks like I'm doomed.
DOOOOOOOOMED I TELL YOU! - staz77, on 08/27/2008, -3/+23dr says i need a backiotomie
- Ryan32, on 08/27/2008, -2/+21It's worth it.
- bob_the_alien, on 08/27/2008, -1/+19Ha, can I write your obituary?
- OfNumbers, on 08/27/2008, -0/+17Moral of the story: Don't develop any problems as you age.
- ScorpioPT, on 08/27/2008, -0/+15*crack*
- Chjoma10, on 08/27/2008, -2/+17You'll also go blind...... and if you're doing a funny face, 1.7 people out of 145,000 will have it stuck like that.....FOREVER
- SeaMowse, on 08/27/2008, -0/+15The vertebral arteries run up and down either side of the spine. I suffered from severe neck/upper back pain for 8 years and was always tempted to go to a chiropractor to have my neck manipulated. Turns out if I would've done that, I would've been instantly killed. Long story short, I had a tumor on my spinal cord on the neck portion of my spine (C4 - C6), which was causing the horrible pain. The tumor was compromised by my right vertebral artery being surrounded by the tumor. Manipulation of my neck would've severed that artery and would've resulted in instant death for me.
- sungoddess808, on 08/26/2008, -15/+29No more trips to the chiropractor for me. =)
- dood, on 08/27/2008, -0/+14Amusing, because some would say that chiropractors are practicing voodoo. :)
- sockpuppets, on 08/27/2008, -1/+15We're sorry but you have reached a meme no longer in service. Please check the meme and try your posting again.
- matthewaaron, on 08/27/2008, -1/+15my bad... .0013000000000000002%
- elfprince13, on 08/27/2008, -1/+14I always stretch my neck muscles, but I never crack it, thank god.
- LeviTheSmith, on 08/27/2008, -0/+13yeah
- Katana314, on 08/27/2008, -0/+13(Agent Smith is about to fight Neo)
*KKKKRAAAAAAACK*
(Smith gets a stroke) - inactive, on 08/27/2008, -6/+18LOL @ The picture... I love it...
Step1. Rotate neck left, Step 2. Rotate Neck right. End result. Stroke ensues head falls on table.
ROFLCOPTER - ptFoe, on 08/27/2008, -6/+17Could it be more than a coincidence that "chiro" in Klingon means "stroke"
- solld3th, on 08/27/2008, -0/+11*thump*
- ratpH1nk, on 08/27/2008, -0/+10The only problem with your assessment is people with "neck problems" don't get strokes. The people who seek these manipulation are self selected for, typically musculoskeletal or neurological pain.
Those people who do get strokes get them in primarily two ways.
1. Manipulation of carotid arteries dislodging carotid plaques causes thrombotic emboli to the brain. As an example if a person presents with SVT, one could theoretically perform a carotid massage which you shouldn't do if the person has carotid bruits, indicating atherosclerotic plaques. This being common, almost exclusive in older people.
2. Dissection of the vertebral arteries due to sheer or excessive rotational forces. This being "common" in younger people.
This is fairly well documented in the neurological literature and has been for some number of years. PubMed is your friend, it's all there. - sodade, on 08/27/2008, -0/+10Which is a good control for the study because people under 45 having a stroke most likely don't have age-related issues that could be causal.
- coldfire201, on 08/27/2008, -1/+11omfg lol, that picture is hilarious
- splorpdotorg, on 08/27/2008, -0/+10I've gone to chiropractors for years and have never been X-Rayed.
- DealCracker, on 08/27/2008, -2/+11QuackCast 10 History and Theory of Chiropractic
http://www.quackcast.com/spodcasts/files/podcast_9 ... - skodai, on 08/27/2008, -0/+9Go reading comprehension. From the article:
"One [study] at Stanford that surveyed 177 neurologists found 55 patients who suffered strokes after seeing chiropractors." - Mjeacoma, on 08/27/2008, -6/+15So, no names of any doctor stating these studies....the writer, Anahad O'Connor is not a dr...., no actual references.....
Seems like an old urban myth like cracking knuckles causing arthritis to me.... - cnot3, on 08/27/2008, -1/+9I hope manipulation of the penis is still safe...
- myfresnofitness, on 08/26/2008, -6/+14I'm going to tell my clients... They'll find this interesting...
- sockpuppets, on 08/27/2008, -2/+10How long have you been a chiropractor?
- gemini8200, on 08/27/2008, -2/+10...
