- stevenwalters, on 10/29/2009, -1/+149If he had given the woman marijuana instead of AIDS, he'd be doing some real time.
- jagerken, on 10/29/2009, -0/+63"Miller has tested negative for HIV. "
at least she didn't get it - d2cole, on 10/29/2009, -3/+64This girl i knew would do this ***** all the time, she has no less than 5 std's at a time and she'll screw anybody. if she doesn't like them, she tells them she's on the pill so they don't need rubbers and bam, HIV. These people need to be locked up.
- audiophile214, on 10/29/2009, -2/+45So in my state of Texas I would go away longer for possessing a few grams of pot (180 days and a $2000 fine) than knowingly infecting someone with a terminal disease (90 days and a $400 fine). That makes sense.
- Gumbos, on 10/29/2009, -1/+29Given one unprotected heterosexual contact (includes only vaginal sex), the rate of M->F transmission is 0.15% and F->M is 0.09%. ( http://gateway.nlm.nih.gov/MeetingAbstracts/ma?f=1 ... ) Rougher sex increases these chances slightly, and anal sex is a completely different story. This is because transmission requires the person being infected to have small tears in their skin allowing the virus to enter the bloodstream.
- elmuerte17, on 10/29/2009, -3/+27English. Learn it and use it.
- quirkopatra, on 10/29/2009, -2/+25Maybe when people are caught doing this, they should get a scarlet letter H tattooed above their equipment.
- DirtyVicar, on 10/29/2009, -1/+20"I don't date and I tend to seclude myself in my apartment,'' Debra Miller said.
And that's probably why it's 90 days. If she wants justice she probably needs to be a churchgoing city councilwoman or sit on the board of a local company. - elmuerte17, on 10/29/2009, -1/+19Guy should be getting his tool chopped off for ***** like this. If I caught HIV from a woman who knew she wasn't clean and didn't tell me, you'd better believe I'd be out for blood.
- mnemy, on 10/29/2009, -0/+16Man this system is screwed. The guy knew he had AIDS and neglected to tell his partner, then had unprotected sex. What a scumbag. He should be sent to prison for much longer than 3 months. You can be damn sure that if someone intentionally tried to give someone cancer, he would be sent to jail for attempted murder. This is basically the same.
And not testing positive for AIDS doesn't mean you don't have it. It's my understanding that it can go undetected for quite some time. - skidevil, on 10/29/2009, -5/+20"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm HIV positive!" - elmuerte17, on 10/29/2009, -1/+15If I know a chick has HIV, I'm not gonna shrug and put on a condom. I'll be running the other way. Rest of you chumps can take your chances with that tiny piece of rubber.
- tonymark1975, on 10/29/2009, -1/+14You knew this yet you didnt say anything? I smell male bovine excrement
- Hivetyrant, on 10/29/2009, -2/+14Attempted murder in my opinion
- funkmunky, on 10/29/2009, -5/+16Funny that... Give someone a natural herb that grows wild, has various uses and medicinal effects and you could be looking at years in prison. Try and give someone HIV/AIDS and you get a slap on the wrist... Just goes to shoe how ***** up the law is in this world...
- Rain12913, on 10/29/2009, -1/+12Wow, I completely missed that line. This whole thing is written as if she had gotten it...sure the guy is a complete bastard and should get a much harsher sentence, but is this really newsworthy? This sort of thing happens every single hour of the day.
- irkenbeannie, on 10/29/2009, -0/+11Unlike his ex-wife...
- Rain12913, on 10/29/2009, -0/+10Yeah, he's is pretty much just an usual digg user.
- mnemy, on 10/29/2009, -0/+10Who would bury information like this?
- notpeterf, on 10/29/2009, -0/+8 That's stupid. If you know you have the disease, don't intentionally spread it. Period. Giving someone a death sentence trumps your right to privacy.
- Rivetgeek, on 10/29/2009, -1/+10Cool story bro
- insanekoz, on 10/29/2009, -0/+9Love it.
- jonglebeats, on 10/29/2009, -0/+6I disagree, when in engaging in sex (protected or not) I believe someone who has such a serious illness, that is transferable, is liable to tell his/her partner. In normal circumstances I would agree his medical records are his own business but the fact that he knew that he had the disease shows that he purposefully put someone at risk and should be punished.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very wary about about many nanny-state type of laws but I think in this instance it would be a valuable protection. - blumarlin1, on 10/29/2009, -1/+8Yes, most shoes are quite messed up these days aren't they?
- bulls414, on 10/29/2009, -0/+7English *****. do you speak it
- mnemy, on 10/29/2009, -0/+6There are plenty of crimes where you have to go on the word of people. Unlike those CSI shows, most crimes can't be 100% proven. Considering this guy gave his ex-wife aids too, I think he would rightfully fail the judge of character test.
And if you can't see the difference between sneezing when you have a cold, and intentionally ***** your partner without protection when you haven't told them you have AIDS, then you need help.
And HIV may not mean immediate death, but it means a shorter life expectancy and devastating life changes, as well as huge medical bills. - hoodedrobin, on 10/29/2009, -0/+5Its a felony if you know you have it here and don't (TELL) your partner...
- Iceman21, on 10/29/2009, -0/+5Its her fault because she did not tell them about her std's, yes you should wear a condom but i condemn victim blaming, if the person, male or female knowingly spreads disease that person needs their libido chemically altered.
- d2cole, on 10/29/2009, -0/+5plenty of people knew, including her parents, doctors, teachers, etc. It's actually amazing that the guys she boned didn't know about it, or they probably did know and assumed, "can't happen to me!" like so many idiots before them.
- Rivetgeek, on 10/29/2009, -2/+7Well duh, HIV doesnt make you run over children and jump out of skyscraper windows. Havent you seen that documentary reefer madness?
- snugglebunnywit, on 10/29/2009, -0/+5that's horrible!
- Iceman21, on 10/29/2009, -0/+4So you are saying that a person with an infectious disease has the right to infect others (because medical conditions need to be private, for some ***** reason) with it at will if they don't take measures in case the person they are sleeping with is a deceptive excuse for a human?
***** you.
I would say the opposite, i think we should all have public records on who is infected with what infectious disease. - Amadeus2490, on 10/29/2009, -0/+4If she WOULD have tested positive, he could have been charged with Voluntary Manslaughter in most states.
- Lordy1952, on 10/29/2009, -3/+7Crazy Bitch...is she hot atleast??
remind me of the black widow - sndream, on 10/29/2009, -0/+4He deserve a bullet in the head.
- BabySinister, on 10/29/2009, -0/+4after smoking weed for multiple years i mysteriously sprouted a second penis! true story
- inactive, on 10/29/2009, -0/+4So nicely put...
- inactive, on 10/29/2009, -0/+3Wrap it before you tap it fool!
- JohnnySoftware, on 10/29/2009, -0/+3Wow. Scary attitude. Try typing this into Google - "define: sociopathic".
Russia and English-speaking nations will generally prosecute you for intentionally infecting someone with HIV/AIDS. Here is the write-up in Wikipedia so you in case a "friend" says they did not know it is illegal:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_transmission ...
The US and countries that are similar to it are either interpreting existing laws or adding new laws so that people with HIV need to inform partners and/or take precautionary measures to avoid running afoul of the law.
Not sure what the law says about less lethal STDs. People have been sued for knowingly infecting another person with HPV and herpes before. That happens in civil court, though.
Actually, in some places it is against the law to cheat on your partner if you are married. See "Adultry".
http://law.jrank.org/pages/4112/Adultery.html
There have been cases in the northwest (early 1980's) and eastern seaboard (October 2001) of people intentionally infecting a lot of people diseases - salmonella via food tampering,] and anthrax via USPS mail, respectively.
The first attack was caught by the CDC but unfortunately a year ofter it happened and the people responsible had left the country by then. Plus, supposedly there was difficulty treating a bio attack as poisoning or a crime in and of itself.
By the time the anthrax killings happened it was most certainly a crime to intentionally infect another person. Of course it was murder too.
It is illegal to beat and injure a spouse. There are laws against it. Having a relationship does not give you the right to do it. Many police officers have died trying to save such victims.
The US has had a public health program (reporting, monitoring, treatment, enforcement) for a century. It started in response to epidemics which were threatening a sizable part of the population and perhaps even the economy. Incidents that have happened over time have reinforced the belief that spreading disease is not okay and society does not have to be completely tolerant.
So, even if you care only about yourself and not another living soul including the person you are with, you are still opening yourself up to a civil lawsuit and extra messy divorce if you intentionally infect them with an STD. If the disease is serious enough then depending on where you are and what it is you are guilty of a crime. If you do care about other people including that person then hopefully that would influence your behavior.
Here are two pages that are instructive on the subject of reportable STDs and what happens when you come down with one.

If you are an adult then you have certain responsibilities. It's not like the the pre-chivalrous Dark Ages anymore. - tonymark1975, on 10/29/2009, -0/+3Im sorry to disagree but sleeping with someone if you KNOW you have HIV (amd not telling your partner) is completely different to the examples you give. Swine flu is just flu, TB, in the UK everyone is innoculated against, there is currently no cure for AIDS/HIV so you are potentially exposing your partner to a deadly virus simply because of self gratification, the guy got what he deserved
- oep4, on 10/29/2009, -0/+3HIV may not show up till later though :\
- kostka, on 10/29/2009, -1/+4Sshe didn't actually get HIV. And while he's still an *****, in the eye of the law there are separate punishments.
- aufte, on 10/29/2009, -0/+3Please stop feeding the troll.
- Gumbos, on 10/29/2009, -0/+3I want to clarify the uncited portion of my post: the rates derived above come from a large enough sample size that it is safe to assume that an average amount of people engaged in an average amount of rough sex. Other studies indicate that rough sex increases the chances above the average rate, but the best I could find (quickly) is http://www.hiv.gov.gy/factsheet.php#transmission which states
"Lesions caused by rough sex or rape can also increase the probability of HIV transmission. In the absence of aggravating factors (such as sexually transmitted infections), the virus tends to be more easily transmitted from males to females during sexual intercourse than vice versa."
Anal sex is obviously a completely different story due to the much greater chance of lesions, and is the reason why AIDS was originally considered a 'gay' disease. However, we all know that a significant portion of heterosexual couples engage in anal sex at least occasionally. I don't feel the need to cite this last paragraph. - UrineEngineer, on 10/29/2009, -0/+3I suppose that if I didn't tell my girlfriend that knives can kill her, then I'm not responsible for stabbing her to death?
- Iceman21, on 10/29/2009, -0/+3Go read up on hiv.
- gethane, on 10/29/2009, -2/+5I agree, ethics require that disclosure.
But as a woman, I'm just so ***** tired of the "It's not my fault, she told me she was on the pill," as if somehow that magically completely prevents a condom from adhering to a penis.
If instead it was a woman saying, "but he told me he had a vascectomy!" (which has happened) this same thread would all be "Stupid dumb *****. It's her fault she believed him." - elmuerte17, on 10/29/2009, -0/+3LOL, I "get digg up." Is that more bad grammar or some sort of reference to me making the entire Digg community sexually aroused? I kinda doubt the latter as I'm an overweight unattractive dude.
- gethane, on 10/29/2009, -2/+5hmm, and yet, they actually could still wear a condom right, since everyone knows that the pill does not protect you from any STD. But its her fault they chose not to wear a condom?
- Iceman21, on 10/29/2009, -0/+3Are you really comparing pregnancy to an infectious terminal disease?
