............................................................................................................................. - mortyd, on 07/19/2009, -0/+11In the Dr.'s defense, those implant tools are ridiculously small and slippery. Normally, one would place a piece of gauze in the back of the mouth as a safety net should the instrument fall. However, we have no idea if the patient had a hyperactive gag reflex, or other complicating medical conditions. Was the patient cooperative? Perhaps the ninety year old man was shaking and moving around on both visits. "Gaal underwent multiple medical procedures to remove the tools but never fully recovered" Do you really expect a 90 year old man to recover well from anything? Where were the instruments lodged? What sequelae did he experience following the removal of the instruments? "He suffered a cardiac event in June 2007 and died a few days later." Was the heart attack related to the dentistry? Perhaps the 90 yr. old man was going to die of a heart attack regardless of the dental instrument issue. "Meyers was fined $17,000 by the state a year later." What was he fined for? Did it even involve this case? "Meyers was found negligent in a settlement." Negligent in what way? Maybe it had nothing to do with dropping instruments. We need more specific information. Perhaps he was negligent for placing implants on a man with with serious health problems, maybe he didn't obtain proper informed consent, or he might have been found guilty of something minor like failing to write proper notes in his charts. We don't know, so we aren't in a position to judge. Could it be a grieving family is trying to pry money from a hardworking medical professional?

"Man's Family Sues Dentist After He Dropped Tools Down Throat Twice" - DonCarcharo, on 07/19/2009, -0/+5Oddly enough I live in Central Florida and my dentist also dropped his tools (and a filling) down my throat. I, however, had the common sense not to go back.
- EddiePotato, on 07/19/2009, -0/+5It's a fetish.
- spriggig, on 07/19/2009, -2/+7Why is dentistry and optometry separate from the rest of medical care? And why don't health care plans cover them? Whatever the reasons are, they are ***** reasons.
- guinpen, on 07/19/2009, -0/+5i'm going to invent a wrist strap for dentist tools- i'll be RICH!
- EddiePotato, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4You're doing it right. Buried.
- charlie6969, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4There is a whole lot to laugh at in this article....

ehh...I need a life. - Elizar, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3the best part is you'll be drugged up and might not even notice!
- EddiePotato, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3If you try hard, you might be able to make them grow back into your skull.
But seriously, don't be nervous. They give you some fine drugs and it's over like that. I had beer and a burger 24 hours after mine came out. - PopcornDave, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3Be glad he didn't pop a cap down your throat.
- TwistableLime, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3Once wasn't enough i guess.

- PopcornDave, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2It's not a big deal. You get the sodium penalty and you won't remember a thing until they bring you back out of it. All I remember is feeling the IV needle go in and then being walked out by the assistants. Plus they'll usually send you home with Percodin.
- Swivelstick, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Still relates to medical care ya know like a nurse isn't a doctor?
- EddiePotato, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3About the same odds as you making sense.
- byoung2, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2Giggity giggity!
- EddiePotato, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3Let's zoom out a bit and ask why they ever separated the professions of surgeon and barber. That right there put a major kink in people's one-stop shopping options.
- JulyZerg, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2My ex-dentist dropped a cap down my throat once. It was pretty unprofessional.
- seantubridy, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1It didn't do anything, which was surprising.
- leland1, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Magneto was paying a visit to the dentist! The metal tools were actually attracted to Magneto when he opened his big mouth...
