- lead2thehead, on 01/02/2009, -6/+52Alcohol is a great sleep aid. I'm betting the "experts" don't have a nagging wife, bratty kids, or a ***** job either.
- borez, on 01/02/2009, -2/+33I find sleeping tablets leave me feeling ***** the whole of the next day.
- kinerry, on 01/02/2009, -2/+26Funny, a glass of brandy cured 20 years of insomnia that all the medication and medical help in the world didn't do ***** for.
- holzp, on 01/02/2009, -1/+23So this prescription from Dr. Jack Daniels is no good?
- AmyVernon, on 01/01/2009, -4/+24I find sleeping pills to be far more insidious than booze, so long as you're not an alkie.
- redrabbit, on 01/02/2009, -6/+22Just smoke a jay, problem solved! Healthier than most other solutions too.
If you want to keep it legal, valerian root is the way to go (tea form is my personal favorite) - RNEMESiS42, on 01/02/2009, -1/+13One glass of Brandy per day? I don't think so. Think about how many more pain killers people use daily, then talk about livers not functioning properly.
- inactive, on 01/02/2009, -5/+17Alchohol?
Really, just smoke or vaporize a little ganja and relax with an old Fellini movie or something. There's no reason to get worked up enough to turn to alchohol. - johnnybluejeans, on 01/02/2009, -4/+15Yeah.. but then you wouldn't have any motivation to go to school and learn to spell.
- EnergyEinstein, on 01/02/2009, -2/+12A balanced life is what will let you sleep.. which means learning how to do deal with thoughts and emotional things you might be blocking, which means learning how to eat properly (and not needing to eat at least 3 hours before bedtime; eat more throughout the day especially before you're doing higher activity levels if you still feel hungry at night) - learning to deal and manage with thoughts and emotional things (eg: talking with people about them, and/or also letting yourself reflect on the thoughts that come up and let them settle or give them a label if they're feelings.. "this makes me Angry still" "i am Sad still") will also help alleviate emotional eating at night time, and allow you to fall asleep.
You also need regular, mostly daily exercise to be balanced.. This balances your mind. If anyone is needing help with this try hot yoga. - hoist0that0rag, on 01/02/2009, -5/+15The people who don't know the difference between "their" and "they're", they're called idiots.
- borez, on 01/02/2009, -0/+9Some life mate.
- Azathothh, on 01/02/2009, -1/+10and what about people that don't know how to choose the proper reply button?
- greenlight2001, on 01/02/2009, -4/+13J.O.K.E.
- Tourniquet, on 01/02/2009, -1/+9Man I thought this was going to be an article full of pictures of drunken passed out people inf random places from New Years.
- oldhick, on 01/02/2009, -0/+7@m0laria, how about you switch to getting an education and making reasonable responses. Limited consumption of alcohol has been proven effective in fighting heart disease and the liver is extremely resilient.
- RNEMESiS42, on 01/02/2009, -2/+9Marijuana keeps me up all night, too much going on in the brain!
- wlzuercher, on 01/02/2009, -0/+6I've taken Melatonin for years to help me get to sleep. Taken an hour before bedtime it shuts down the
chipmunks racing around my brain. The only side effect is vivd dreams.... - sabach, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5A nice hooter is the best sleep aid, but some of us have jobs that involve random drug testing. And don't say get another job, except for this 1 little detail I have the job I was always looking for.
- ablacksunrise, on 01/02/2009, -5/+10Bury it if it's a dupe...
Bury it if it's a terrible article...
But burying it because of the submitter is no better than digging because of submitter, which is, after all, what you're against... right? - insinuate, on 01/02/2009, -1/+6Not for me. I work overnights from 6 PM - 7 AM half the week doing over the phone tech support, and its an extremely easy job, only occasionally stressful, so after my 12 hour shift when I get home I'm pretty wide awake. If I don't take sleeping pills (Advil PM ftw.) I'll just lay in bed for hours on end with my mind just scatter brained and the most random ***** running through it. And I might get 3-4 hours of sleep then have to work a 12 hour shift halfway asleep drinking a ton of redbull. If I just pop 2 pills when I get home at 7, an hour later I am passed out smooth, wake up at 5 or so and can work all night without even a thought of exhaustion.
- houndeyex, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5Who gets tired after one beer? 15 year olds?
- bipolarruledout, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5Diphenhydramine definitely works for many but it can also have a stimulating effect on some and a significant "hangover" effect. On the plus side there is nearly no abuse potential.
- Thorpe, on 01/02/2009, -2/+6If I can't get to sleep, I stay up and use Digg, whilst listening to music.
- Deausx, on 01/02/2009, -3/+7Doctors think people should give them large amounts of money to solve otherwise cheap problems.
News at 11. - Browzer, on 01/02/2009, -1/+5I don't find that alcohol helps me sleep. If I drink, I do get sleepy and fall asleep, but then I suddenly wake up 3 hours later. It's not an even or satisfying sleep.
If you want a good night's sleep, try taking a Benadryl. - inactive, on 01/02/2009, -2/+6I've never had any problem with motivation, and I smoke the ganja almost on a daily basis. (as often as that because I use it for medicinal reasons as well as for a good time)
"Functional Potheads" as we are called differ in no way from a regular pothead except for one thing: we took care of our motivation problems *before* becoming a pothead.
And as for the spelling thing, haha. A spelling flame. I actually got kind of done with those during the decline of Kibology in the very early 90s on usenet, but I understand if you're just discovering it. :) - lead2thehead, on 01/02/2009, -2/+6one beer before bed to help you sleep != being a drunk
But your solution is to abandon your kids and spend the next 2 years trying to get divorced? Do you have any idea how expensive a divorce is?... or how long it takes? Every talk to somebody who pays alimony? And while doing all of that, do you think you'd be getting more sleep or less? Yes... and you can always just "get a better job". Like it's that easy. You have to learn a higher-paying trade first and that takes a hell of a long time. But I'm betting that you wouldn't know anything about that. You talk like a spoiled teenage who still lives with your parents, has no responsibilities, no job, and sits around smoking pot every day.
(Note that I am not referring to myself, as I have a loving wife, a great job, and no kids.) - Gareth321, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3What are you? The anti-fun fairy? Alcohol isn't any worse than prescription drugs. As with any drug, it should be taken in moderation (I don't even necessarily agree than 1 standard drink per day is healthy). Poor diet kills far more people than alcohol ever will, but I'm sure you live on broccoli and and stringbeans, you little puritan.
- joe8pack, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3Melatonin is a great sleep aid and is over the counter in the USA. Some of the antihistamines make excellent sleep aids, Vistaril for example is a prescription drug that will put anyone to sleep faster than a political speech on C-Span.
There are several nootropic drugs that enhance sleep.
Activity and excersize will help wear you out - I recommend getting up at 5 am and going fishing in a small boat all day, by 6pm you will be ready for the pillow. A 10 mile hike is another great sleep booster, and if you need an extra boost try a 25lb backpack.
A glass of your favorite alcoholic beverage surely won't hurt, though you may awaken about 3 a.m. - the melatonin will help make sure that doesn't happen.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melatonin - JFitzpatrick, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3Teetotalism hasn't been popular movement for about 70 years now.
You're a bit behind the curve. - andreegal, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3The most sensible solution here....anxiety is killer.... and there is no easy fix.
- maxbeatty, on 05/01/2009, -0/+3The people who confuse "their" and "they're", they're called idiots.
- lucutus, on 01/02/2009, -3/+6Sorry but I've been suffering from insomnia for the past 27 years here. Tried all sorts of sleep aids, meditation, diet, Valerian root, etc.......
Liquor works best with the least negative side effects. Especially Clear Liquor with Tonic water that includes quinine. - BossKey, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3Maybe you just need to pay more attention.

http://digg.com/general_sciences/Red_wine_weight_l ... - oldhick, on 01/02/2009, -1/+4@salomejones, I think that the world don't move to the beat of just one drum. What might be right for you, may not be right for some. It takes different strokes to move the world.
So chill out. Some people drink, some people smoke, some people pop pills and some people count sheep. There is no universally correct method for falling asleep and after reading your angry get divorced and leave your kids rant near the top, you need to take another puff and seriously chill out. - 5xSTUN, on 01/02/2009, -2/+5"Did you ever try to sleep sober? It's impossible." -- Doug Stanhope, comedian

You my friend, are a clueless *****. - wyrdness, on 01/02/2009, -0/+2I've found a combination of liquor and valerian root to be best for me. Mead (honey wine) works very well, as does a nice single malt Scotch.
- bipolarruledout, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Depends entirely on the sleeping pills. It should also be noted that alcohol alone carries significant addiction potential.
- BabyWookie, on 01/02/2009, -2/+4Check out his profile:
"I am a very active Digg users most of the time for my friend's submissions. If you Digg me enough and notify me. I will notice you and add you to my Friends."
Translation: I'll blind-digg your ***** if you blind-digg my *****.
I agree with DaveBlaze. Buried... - bipolarruledout, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2As much as I hate pharmaceutical companies the newer class of "z drugs" really are excellent sleep aids. They are fast acting with nearly no hangover (with the possible exception of the overpriced time release versions) and promote REM sleep. There are plenty of substances which will put you to sleep but few will provide quality restful sleep. They are certainly not without addiction potential and some people experience significant side effects but for the majority of people they are excellent drugs; perhaps some of the best in the industry.
- FearFactory, on 01/02/2009, -1/+3Anyone know of any sleep herbs that boost lucid dreaming?
- inactive, on 01/02/2009, -0/+2I prefer my sleeping meds, they kick in after 15 minutes and then I usually spend the next 30 having fun with the trippy benzo feeling it gives me. Weed only makes me feel tired hours after I've smoked it, and only if it was more than a few bowls. And as for beer, after a couple I'm tired enough were I can fall asleep but I always wake up a few hours later and have the hardest time going back to sleep.
- christinme, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2who really takes 10 minute naps? Seriously? If my eyes fall short i don't think twice about setting an alarm for 10 MINUTES. A few beers puts me to sleep faster than anything. I don't have problems with sleeping but sometimes i can't sleep because of thoughts moving through my mind. Beer does it, two or three and i will sleep a lot better.
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -0/+2Learn how to spell alcohol and we will talk, dumbass. Hint: there is only ONE "h".
(See I can be a douche and look through your post history too).
Oh and me having immature tendencies does not negate the fact you are a clueless *****. A five year old could see that. - inactive, on 01/02/2009, -0/+2You'd only die if you drank a lot of alcohol with an excess of sleeping pills, even then chances are you'd just get really sick.
- starf, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2There are two basic types of weed: sativa and indica.
Sativas are uplifting and energetic. They're what you'll mostly find at parties.
Indicas are for relaxation. They're what cancer patients take for nausea and pain. They're also great for insomnia. - EmperorAwesome, on 01/02/2009, -1/+3oldhick has once again become the voice of reason.
- bipolarruledout, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2I'm sure it's next to the article advising you to cut out your vital organs to lose those pesky holiday pounds.
