- peestandingup, on 10/24/2009, -0/+64Wow. Luckily I always keep my cell phone next to my penis & testicles.
- dtfinch, on 10/24/2009, -2/+65Fortunately I only talk about 20 minutes a month, and only 1-2 of that is on the phone.
- sanagalrc, on 10/24/2009, -5/+46Hello 2002!
- ChaotikBlu, on 10/24/2009, -0/+41Good thing I have no friends to call.
- Lefts, on 10/24/2009, -3/+23I knew it, I always knew it, but people called me stupid.
The cell phones ARE out to get us! - EddiePotato, on 10/24/2009, -0/+19
- mattmacneil, on 10/24/2009, -3/+21everything causes cancer.
- slappymode, on 10/24/2009, -2/+16I'm confused by some of the dismissive comments here. It seems to me that a 10-year study by the World Health Organization that shows talking on the phone can increase your risk of getting a brain tumor isn't some throw away story.
- bjornski, on 10/25/2009, -0/+13Actually, that would get two diggs from me....
- lolwatermelon, on 10/24/2009, -0/+13This guy I know bought a used car. 12 years later, BAM! Herpes.
That's not how science works. You probably got a headache because of multiple causes in your environment. Maybe the conversation, holding your head at a weird angle, some background static you could barely hear on the call.
Saying "I used a phone and got a headache," is silly. - RyFo18, on 10/24/2009, -8/+19Breaking: Long-Term living may cause cancer!
- Alienkid, on 10/24/2009, -4/+15IN THE YEAR 2000!!!!
- BookaShade, on 10/24/2009, -5/+15Wow....
Not this ***** again.
While european scientists are not curing cancer they are bringing up this *****. - joelcass, on 10/24/2009, -0/+9Am I the only one that finds articles and reports that only mention percentages with no hard numbers annoying?
- D2Much, on 10/24/2009, -0/+9"I'm a tumour, I'm a tumour, I'm a tumour, Yeah, I'm a tumour"
- SpykerSpeed, on 10/24/2009, -3/+11Yes, but HOW? Cell phones don't give off the type of radiation that causes DNA damage, as far as I've been taught.
- Poonchow, on 10/25/2009, -0/+8It's extremely difficult to get solid data backing any claim that cell phones cause cancer. High frequency cell phone users are probably more at risk due to other contributing factors like: living in a crowded, polluted city environment and surrounding themselves with more radiation emitting technology (anything with electricity running through it). I would not be surprised at all to see a correlation between cell phone use and brain tumors, but it's nearly impossible to dismiss other contributing factors.

representing digg - Solkre, on 10/24/2009, -0/+6Did you happen to have a ***** phone call?
- ricemonster, on 10/24/2009, -5/+1120 minutes a month? Have you taken a vow of silence or something?
- ieatpoptarts, on 10/24/2009, -0/+5Were you talking to a girl?
- seaofcheese, on 10/24/2009, -1/+6Great comments!
- Terwa, on 10/24/2009, -1/+6Digg causes cancer.
- aphexcoil, on 10/24/2009, -0/+5Well considering I am 32 and grew up with cell phones and have probably spent over 500,000 minutes on a cell-phone (yes, over one year of my life on a cell phone), I will say that I will miss all of my fellow diggers as I slobber uncontrollably on the hospital bed while my brain has its own little rave party taking place.
Yes, I have spent at least a year of my life on a cell phone. Without a doubt.
- Outofthenight, on 10/25/2009, -1/+6Lavarock - "Hold your hand over a light. It turns red right? That's because VISIBLE LIGHT has an EASIER time passing through your body than cell phone signals- it's FAR MORE INTENSE."
You twit... It has nothing to do with how easily the types of radiation pass through flesh, it has to do with your eye being sensitive to one and ignorant of the other.
No matter how intense the RF energy from a cellphone was, you wouldn't be able to see it.
Sheesh. - bjornski, on 10/25/2009, -2/+7"...as far as I've been taught."
Exactly.
Just because we haven't detected something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. We just haven't figured out what to measure yet. - sam10685, on 10/25/2009, -0/+4Hello 1994... I believe I remember first hearing about this from Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura Pet Detective.
- TBBucs, on 10/24/2009, -1/+5It causes cell phone elbow too.
- CheapCats, on 10/25/2009, -1/+5Oh I see what you did their!
- decepta, on 10/24/2009, -0/+4
- monicadickey, on 10/24/2009, -2/+6I was listening to a show about this the other day and it was said that they do not know the mechanism that would cause cancer from cel phones, but usually the mechanism is isolated long after the numbers indicate a problem. Right now we are the stage of numbers indicating there may be a correlation between cel phone use and cancer.
- austroLogi, on 10/25/2009, -0/+4dude, didn't she have breast reduction surgery? What a waste.
- catalysis, on 10/24/2009, -0/+4This is true, but there are other possible mechanisms, such as chronic inflammation due to heat from absorption of the EM radiation. I'm not saying that has been proven, just that the effects are not well known. For instance, a recent study showed detectable changes in cognitive response time from cell-phone levels of radiation in humans. The cause is unclear, but we know there is *some* type of effect. It's always good to get more data.
- sdipaola, on 10/24/2009, -3/+6i have already limited my near my head use when the first reports came out years ago, this is yet another one. our whole house is realizing to be more limiting - talking on the cell less, switching to home or office phones faster and more often. Not talking long when you know it is a cell phone.
- beatfarm, on 10/24/2009, -1/+4These days it's probably my thumbs that will get cancer rather than my brain.
- inactive, on 10/25/2009, -0/+3I don't have anything productive to say on this topic, So here's some boobs
http://sports.popcrunch.com/wp-content/uploads/200 ... - lens42, on 10/25/2009, -1/+4Then how does that same radiation manage to penetrate walls and allow your phone to work inside buildings?
- freezo1994, on 10/24/2009, -0/+3dugg for your name...unless your a girl
- LibertariansLOL, on 10/24/2009, -0/+3They've been replaced by jobless internet libertarians.
- mizusajt, on 10/25/2009, -0/+2dugg for accuracy
- CheapCats, on 10/25/2009, -0/+2This is horrible! I have to call all my friends to warn them!
- BossKey, on 10/25/2009, -0/+2I prefer headsets anyway, I really don't like holding up a phone.
- mcphilip, on 10/25/2009, -0/+2is this a viral ad for twitter?
- thomas, on 10/25/2009, -0/+2It may as well say "Long Term Use of Your Body May Cause Cancer". Because many everyday items could cause cancer.
- BookaShade, on 10/24/2009, -1/+3Lets hope not when it cost 20 million euros.
Why these comments confuse you is because there have been tons of studies about cell phones causing cancer or tumors. It gets old. No one is going to stop using cell phones. Unless this is a serious threat. - EnergyEinstein, on 10/25/2009, -0/+2Actually - they do KNOW it DOES cause DAMAGE to DNA. (Just felt like capitalizing some words...)
http://www.rfsafe.com/DNA_EFFECTS.htm Here's a quick Google search link... It gives info - it's not the specific research that's been done, but there are a few papers that have been peer reviewed published. - Chubbly, on 10/24/2009, -1/+3I sometimes wonder if Digg can actually comprehend what news is anymore. Has it really become that bad that when an international study is put forward citing some potentially devastating result, all Digg can do is shout something against it or make bad jokes? Where have all the rational people gone?
- lolwatermelon, on 10/24/2009, -0/+2And, as we all know, correlation implies causation, right?
Oh, wait, it's the other way around. - stellarspellar, on 10/25/2009, -1/+3My thought exactly. Besides, we've had microwaves in our kitchens for decades, and those leak WAY more power at ~2.4 GHz than the few milliwatts from a mobile phone in the same frequency range.
