- OPR8R, on 10/27/2009, -2/+36I think gaining an understanding of how alcohol aids in spreading of cancer is significant.
- AdmiralAcbar, on 10/27/2009, -7/+38Gee, what do you know? Drinking poison is bad for you!
- captinherb, on 10/28/2009, -0/+30Totally killing my buzz
- ScottyAnimal, on 10/28/2009, -1/+27Yet Marijuana is still illegal. Go figure.
- kinerry, on 10/28/2009, -3/+25Being alive causes cancer (not kidding).
Cancer is just abnormal cell mutation, this can happen at random during ANY body function. Including drinking water, eating ANY food, sweating, and just generally doing things that are normal to keep you alive. - Cowzeetgrass, on 10/27/2009, -1/+22I know many people who claim to only smoke when they drink. The kicker is that they smoke more when they drink than they probably would if they did not drink.
- VaporTrail2112, on 10/28/2009, -0/+17NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Ah well, not like I wouldn't die of cirrhosis of the liver first. - awm80, on 10/28/2009, -0/+17Understanding how the body works leads to ways to treat dysfunctions in the body.
- Corona85, on 10/28/2009, -3/+18NO WAY SURELY THIS HAS TO BE THE ONLY THING THAT CAUSES CANCER! Oh wait apparently everything does.
- CheapDigWannbe, on 10/28/2009, -0/+13Oh damn that is terrible... I need to have a drink to calm down and let this sink in.
- b8man99, on 10/28/2009, -0/+12Legal doesn't mean safe. And illegal certainly doesn't mean it's bad for you.
No, not needlessly complicated or arbitrary at all. - Shiftgood, on 10/28/2009, -2/+13nobody lives forever.
- KokomoNYC, on 10/28/2009, -1/+12True, but you sound kinda like a physics professor I had who said "It's not really a big deal that Superman can stop a moving train. I can stop a moving train...it would just take me a lot longer." We gotta draw a line somewhere concerning mutagenic rate. You're not going to go out and smoke a blunt of asbestos just because normal everyday things cause cancer.
- freonchill, on 10/28/2009, -3/+14so if you dont have cancer in your family
then you are ok
while you are at it...
dont eat red meat (heat attack)
dont drink acidic drinks (intestinal cancer)
dont drink base drinks (milk -> cancer)
dont eat/drink out of plastic containers (bpa)
dont eat/drink with alumnium (alzheimer's disease)
dont eat/drink soy (cancer)
dont eat/drink fruits (bacteria, worms, etc)
dont eat cow products (mad cow)
dont eat chicken (salmonella)
dont eat beans (gas, stones, etc)
dont drink coke (hfcs -> cancer)
dont drink coke (sugar / fat -> heart attack)
dont drink diet coke (aspartame / cancer)
dont drink water (lead)
dont drink water (fluoride)
dont drink water (zinc)
dont drink water (organic compounds)
dont drink bottled water (bpa)
so lets recap
eat or drink anything in the world = die
dont eat or drink anything in the world = die
survey says - either way your are screwed - Blinker1315, on 10/27/2009, -12/+19And in other breaking news, tobacco use may also cause cancer and heart disease, and it's not healthy to be overweight.
- alextsnet, on 10/28/2009, -1/+8FW: FW: FW: FW: RE: SCIENCE PROVES LINK BETWEEN ALCOHOL AND DRUNKENNESS
- tastybbq, on 10/28/2009, -2/+8I'd rather live good than have a good liver.
- dengzhi, on 10/28/2009, -0/+6milk is also linked to cancer.. google "casein"
- diggdong, on 10/28/2009, -0/+5Life is cancer, drown it with alchol.
- tilttv, on 10/28/2009, -0/+5Well, my alcoholic, addicted-to-smoking father died of cancer at age 60. Nice to know there's a scientific reason and it wasn't just God kicking his ass. RIP Dad.
- Humptydank, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4And, coincidentally, I had microcystic adnexal carcinoma, also near my eye -- a rare, randomly occurring cancer.
But most car accidents are random occurrences as well, does that mean we should not be telling people not to drive drunk or use their cell phones while driving? - trashymac, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4I'm drinking while I read this.
- Humptydank, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4Terrific, that's your prerogative, but if you're going to die just try to do it fast willya?
As you ride around without a motorcycle helmet, drunk, smoking Camel unfiltered, you're running a pretty high risk not of dying, but ending up as a brain-damaged quadriplegic with cirrhosis of the liver and throat cancer.
So my insurance premiums keep going up to pay for the 24-hour nursing care for you people who think that whatever you do to your bodies is your own damn business.
Yeah, your own damn business, as long as it's on my dime. - canadabluesfan, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4uh oh :(
- Humptydank, on 10/28/2009, -1/+5Uhmm, yes, but certain things can hasten that process, or increase its incidence.
You can't guarantee cancer prevention, but you can limit your exposure to carcinogens and reduce unnecessary risk.
If that post was meant to be the the sum of your knowledge of cancer, then you should have been kidding. - Humptydank, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4Sort of like the Mafia fighting the Nazis in World War II?
- ChileanGoD, on 10/28/2009, -1/+4"Alcohol consumption has long been linked to cancer and its spread"...
I've been more than 30 years on this planet and I only ear about this today?? - mjoe, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3smoking actually protects brain cells from alcohol toxicity.
- Timpin1, on 10/28/2009, -1/+4Soooo anyone want a Newcastle?
- Konwashere, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3This is so shocking. I need a drink.
- Humptydank, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3The only way people can make informed decisions is with information. This article was presenting new information on carcinogens. The parent post, however, was so stupid as to be very nearly sucking information out of the Internet for a net loss.
That said, I believe that people should not have unlimited personal choice to destroy themselves. Perhaps they could if they went slowly, but the cost to me personally in health care costs from smokers taking the entire health care system down with them as they die is enormous.
If cigarettes were perfectly fine for you until every once in a while one went wrong and killed them on the spot, like skydiving, then perhaps I wouldn't have as a big a problem with them as I do. But they don't. They convert their users into health wrecks that the rest of us have to spend our time and money nursing into the grave. - seearees, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3Actually it was the paper industry. Hemp makes cheaper paper but they didn't want to have to build brand new paper mills to switch to hemp paper so they started the campaign to outlaw the cultivation of the plant.
- ScottyAnimal, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3Thee point is I am allowed to go buy Alcohol and poison myself, but I am not allowed to do the same with Marijuana. Why not?
- jumbalia, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3LA LA LA I'm not listening! LA LA LA LA
- shadowq8, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3I seen this documentary where they show that the main reason Marijuana is opposed in the US because it was smoked by "unwanted" minorities back in the early 1900's
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3Are you retarded? A link between alcohol and cancer risk != all cases of cancer cause by alcohol
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 10/28/2009, -1/+3That's incorrect.
There has been no link found between even chronic marijuana use and cancer, emphysema, or heart disease; all things conclusively shown to be caused by nicotine and tobacco smoke.
The worst thing that smoking weed will give you is an increased risk and frequency of chest cold. - JSPyper, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2well said
- CheapDigWannbe, on 10/28/2009, -1/+3Good pun sir! I'll drink to that!
- nepidae, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2generally you can reproduce before cancer kills you. that said, a life without vices is a life I wouldn't want to live.
- diggaligg, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2France still exists. How bad can alcohol possibly be?
- AIias, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2@ geoffg If you choose to live a life of recklessness without a care of what may happen to you is fine with me, but i'm not fine if you choose to drive drunk and t-bone me in the middle of an intersection.
Your fine to live your life as you wish as long as your choices don't affect others, or me. - RubberBinder, on 10/28/2009, -1/+3Good thing I only drink it.
- Humptydank, on 10/28/2009, -1/+3Well, considering that there's a 40 percent chance that you will be diagnosed with cancer in your lifetime, you might want to keep at least one eye on the cancer news.
- geopiscean, on 10/28/2009, -1/+3Damn!! I must stop consuming alcohol from now on...
- Rain12913, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2The extent to which people simply do not understand science often frightens me.
- konradryan, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2/singlemaltscotches>blends
- flyinfoofighter, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2Guess I better stop binge drinking milk then...
- Humptydank, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2Really? Just curious, how much do you pay a month for your coverage?
Are you part of a corporate group, where your company pays the same amount for everyone, or are you, individually, paying more yourself for your risky behaviors? - Humptydank, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2That's what I thought.
