- rhondacallahan, on 03/20/2009, -11/+258It's about time lawmakers recognized the people out here who need an alternative to all the pills we've been popping for pain relief!!! I have fibromayalgia and sit here at 4:30 am hurting so bad I can't sleep-I've been taking narcotics (with prescriptions) for over 20 years now and God only knows what my liver looks like!! I'm in my 40's and would like to be able to play with my grandchildren-but usually can't even pick up the oldest and she's only a year old!! I've worked all my life-never tried to get SSI or anything...I just want some decent quality of life!!! I drive to work etc on Darvocet and Soma on a regular basis and have for years since my tolerance is so high after all this time I barely get enough pain relief to take the edge off-let alone function!!! I have dreams and hobbies just like everyone else...but I've had to give up the things I love to do cuz it's not worth waking up the next morning unable to get out of bed by myself-but I still keep on plugging away at all the things a good wife and mom have to do...my daughters sometimes have to help me get dressed cuz I can't fasten my own bra...How pathetic is that?? It's time to stop stereotyping us as just old hippies looking for a buzz and get real!!! How many of those lawmakers have a loved one who suffer from chronic pain I wonder? Do they turn their heads when it's their family member, their mother, father? Wake up people !!!
- Yarnartist, on 03/20/2009, -5/+138If they would just legalize marijuana, that would REALLY help stabilize the economy. Tax it for recreational and commercial uses. If you don't know what commercial uses hemp could possibly have, please watch "Hemp Revolution". Guess what: The reason cotton pushed hemp out of the way commercially was so that the big cotton growers wouldn't go broke! Yes, it was a political thing for what was once big business. Replace cotton growing with hemp, and you get: paper, fabric, ecologically friendly paper cups, etc., food, medicine--and boll weevils don't like it, so you don't have to spray it with anything. Could we PLEASE come out of the dark ages???
- sp3kter, on 03/20/2009, -3/+93"63 percent of the state's voters—and a majority in every county—said yes to medical marijuana."
"the public understands that cannabis is not a problem for medical use,"
but on the other hand
"The police disagree, and so do many politicians."
because they both know whats best for us right? ***** them, bring it to vote. the populace is speaking. - fightingforair, on 03/20/2009, -5/+71Wisconsin get on the boat please!
- ileftfark, on 03/20/2009, -0/+62Hey there little fella... it's possible to ingest marijuana via pills, baked goods, and vapor as well if you are concerned about smoke.
/puts rock back over your little hole - cardyology, on 03/20/2009, -7/+56Yet another victory for us! ***** those who say its wrong.
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -8/+52It's good to live in Michigan.
- etx313, on 03/20/2009, -2/+44I voted for the prop in the past election even if I don't smoke weed. I would like to see it become an industry here in Michigan.
- hagiaso, on 03/20/2009, -1/+41First time I've heard that in a long time
- bjornski, on 03/20/2009, -1/+41Than take handfuls of pharmaceuticals?
Yes. Yes, I would.
/pancreas is rotted out from pharmaceuticals, requiring surgery
/extremely painful. Someone pass me a joint. Pills don't help. - Hetman, on 03/20/2009, -1/+30Be carefull everyone. This is your brain on government produced anti-marijuna propoganda. And yes it did turn diocles777 brain to goo.
- casek, on 03/20/2009, -1/+30this is a good move. states rights are above and beyond government law.
the people have (finally) started speaking and state government is starting to (finally) listen.
feel good about yourselves michigan voters. you're helping a lot of people. - inactive, on 03/20/2009, -5/+34Congratulations. Weed will be legalized soon, and chances are, the world will be better off for it.
- roddack, on 03/20/2009, -1/+29Pretty much this
its ***** retarded that it is illegal in the first place and politicians should be for legalizing it so they can tax it and get some more cash.
Police are just pissed because its one less thing they can harass people about. - blacktriangle, on 03/20/2009, -5/+31Prepare yourself for the SWAT Team raids.
- dhVyse, on 03/20/2009, -2/+26While lung damage is something you risk while smoking anything, your lungs can handle small amounts quite easily and they heal just like anything else in your body. Not to mention marijuana can be injested or made into pill form to get it in your bloodstream.
With the more potent strands available people can medicate with smoking much, MUCH less then they did on your grandfathers weed. So you smoke less to get the same ammount of the chemical. We're talking 3-5 hits here. How many puffs does a cigerette smoker take with 1 cig? Alot more, which is why alot of people believe cigs are worse, you simply smoke alot more.
It really is amazing how many ailments weed can treat as well.
And it's side effects are happy, hungy, sleepy, as opposed to most perscription meds which usually range from anything like nausia to death etc.
To quote Katt Willliams, "I have no idea why weed isn't legal.....Aspirin is perfectly legal but if you take 13 of em' it'll be your last ***** headache" - MilfordCubicle, on 03/20/2009, -2/+25Uhm....you know that cancer risk from cannabis smoke is sub-miniscule compared to inhaled household dust, right? Yes, the smoke can temporarily paralyze the cilia in the lungs, but that's not cancer. God, I wish people would educate themselves before they spew their garbage about cancer. Besides, i'd rather risk cancer than live in constant pain. Oh, and another thing, even smoking high grade pot for my pain costs less than 1/4 of what i used to spend on pain killers, since I don't have any friggin insurance.
- Logrusmage, on 03/20/2009, -2/+24On the other hand, why the ***** should the government be able to tell hippies looking for a buzz to ***** off?
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -0/+20(If you have a job)
- cbsx01, on 03/20/2009, -1/+19"63 percent of the state's voters—and a majority in every county—said yes". Laws will not chance until the measures are placed on ballots. Look around, read the news and you'll see what happens when we leave decision making up to politicians.
- billpilgrim, on 03/20/2009, -1/+19quick cover yourself up, your ignorance is showing
- greatmunizzle, on 03/20/2009, -3/+20Oh *****! I didn't know it gave you cancer! I should probably go to the doctors asap to get treated for it!
You're a ***** douche. If you had read the article it explains that marijuana is used to HELP cancer patients, not make them more sick you *****. - etx313, on 03/20/2009, -0/+16Or Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Alice Cooper, Bob Segar , The White Stripes, or any of the other awesome Michigan bands that don't SUCK.
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -1/+17Hey buddy, I hate to break it to you, but most of those facts you provided would be true if I smoked paper, plastic, or anything else that will ash and fume.
The problem is that many anti-pot factoid bots (such as yourself) can only provide evidence that SMOKING IN AND OF ITSELF is harmful; not the act of smoking marijuana specifically.
Smoking marijuana is almost provably less harmful than smoking a cigarette, and that's a fact DESPITE the ironic fact that research on the matter is prohibited to a ridiculous extent here in this country (USA).
So when you have some real facts, let us know. Until then, stop telling us that if we drop a 10-pound rock on our heads, it's going to hurt more than if we dropped an identically shaped and weighted solid object instead. - JinnRikki, on 03/20/2009, -1/+16I can't understand the police's objections to it. How many high speed chases will they engage in and the guy gets out of the car (hopefully) at the end and says, "yes sir I was smoking pot", my guess would be close to zero.
How many brawls will be started because a bunch of guys got together and decided to smoke to much weed, again I would guess near zero. The only violence associated with pot is caused by it's illegality.
I would bet if you let police officers be anonymous in their answers a majority would be for legalization. - Frankyfan3, on 03/20/2009, -3/+17Another great moment for patient's rights.
Munchies Save Lives! - filldeviant, on 03/20/2009, -2/+16Oh, this is exciting. I keep hearing about the east and west coast legalization, but as I sit here in Indiana (A very conservative state, even though it was a blue state in the election [which was pretty funny to say the least]), I have a small spark of hope that if Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio loosen the grip on Marijuana, Indiana might follow in turn.
- Frankyfan3, on 03/20/2009, -1/+15In my experience with patients, PT is not the best course of treatment for nausea.
Brain to goo? You're referring to dead brain cells, right? You know, the study the government touts as showing marijuana kills brain cells was conducted by strapping monkeys to gas masks and then pumping smoke into them NON STOP for several minutes at a time every day.
They suffocated those monkeys and eventually killed them by doing so. When the autopsies showed brain cell death, they were very happy to explain the results, but took several years, after public records requests, to disclose the methodology of the study.
Every other study on marijuana consumption shows no correlation between brain cell death and marijuana use.
http://paranoia.lycaeum.org/marijuana/facts/mj-hea ...
You're more likely to kill brain cells driving in heavy traffic. Carbon monoxide is a bitch. - randall814, on 03/20/2009, -2/+16Until you get shot in the chest by the police.
- aflat362, on 03/20/2009, -2/+16To those who think pot is a gateway drug:
You are wrong and it is very simple as to why.
The only reason pot is sometimes a gateway drug today is because it's illegal.
In order to buy weed, you have to buy it from a drug dealer.
Drug dealers sometimes sell other drugs and want you to buy them.
If pot were legal, you would buy it from a store that does not sell other drugs.
There is nothing inherent about Marijuana that makes you crave cocaine or heroin.
Ta da! - stizz, on 03/20/2009, -2/+16Holder stated that the DEA will now only focus on those breaking BOTH state and federal law. Meaning if you operate legally within the state laws, the DEA won't bother you.
- boomchockalocka, on 03/20/2009, -1/+15This seems like a stupid question, but why exactly is marijuana illegal? What is the legal reasoning? "Because we said so" isn't good enough.
- BoneStamp, on 03/20/2009, -0/+13We've already got the facilities in place...
http://tinyurl.com/crj76j - BoneStamp, on 03/20/2009, -1/+14I hope lawmakers can put stereotypes and career-minded decisions aside to give you the relief and understanding you deserve as a fellow human being. Not allowing people to use the best drug for their pain is cruel and inhumane. They should be ashamed of themselves; they are more worried about the impact a medical cannabis bill could have on their career than the well being of the people they allegedly represent. I give you my best wishes and I hope you can one day take a suitable drug without risking jail time.
- LogicBomB, on 03/20/2009, -3/+16Just keep educating people about the truth - even if you don't smoke. The less retarded people who condemn weed while taking a drag from a cig at the same time the better we'll all be.
- korvan504521, on 03/20/2009, -0/+12it will certainly save us all a hell of a lot of money and grief.
i dont smoke week, but i really don't give a damn if other people do. but the crime and the ***** that accompanies it being illegal I *do* care about. - zantos420, on 03/20/2009, -0/+12Your ignorance is blinding
- tonberryqueen, on 03/20/2009, -4/+16Pot doesn't contain the same dangerously carcinogenic agents that cigarettes do.
- sodade, on 03/20/2009, -0/+11Busting potheads is ***** easy. They are generally not violent so it is a low risk way for the pigs to say "see, look at how well we are doing in the drug war." Compare to busting a biker gang making meth.
- n1kon82, on 03/20/2009, -0/+11Hey, wow. Thanks for the heads up that inhaling smoke is bad for you. Who would have guessed!
Do you really believe marijuana is illegal (and should continue to be) because it's bad for you? What else do you feel should be criminialized for the sake of protecting everyone's health? Where's your rant on alcohol and tobacco? Maybe people should be jailed for walking outside in NYC breathing all that toxic air.
What's your problem with people having their own say over what they do and don't do to their own bodies? As long as it's not harming anyone else there's absolutely no reason for it to be illegal.
And this is coming from someone who's never touched marijuana in his life. But as always, it doesn't even matter. Right? - enantiodromia, on 03/20/2009, -0/+10originally, it was a racist law against Mexicans, who used to smoke it while they labored in the fields for whitey.
then, some newspaper dude was worried his daughter would get hooked on the stuff, and started a campaign to demonize a plant. - korvan504521, on 03/20/2009, -3/+13but should potheads be any different than us alcoholics?
- rsbryswrrl, on 03/20/2009, -3/+13Every state needs to put it to a vote - let the people decide if they want to prosecute people for using pot.
- sofaKing812, on 03/20/2009, -1/+11This is an important step in getting pot decriminalized/legalized (at least medically). We need a foothold in the midwest to show the people in other midwest states (I'm from Indiana) that marijuana is not "devil weed."
- GeNe07, on 03/20/2009, -1/+11love how the cops are "worried" aka no more income from petty marijuana busts.
- Mockylock, on 03/21/2009, -0/+9Exactly. People think that because Marijuana is illegal, than the rest of the illegal drugs are just as harmless. That is why it is a "gateway" drug. If it was not illegal, it would be different. In all honesty, Alcohol is the most potent "gateway" drug if there was one. Not to mention a gateway to abortions, single parents, poverty, drunk driving and horrible politicians.
- sx66gns, on 03/20/2009, -0/+9Read the cannabis history or google "Anslinger" and prepare yourself for a really bad mood.
- korvan504521, on 03/20/2009, -0/+9the police object to it for the same reason the UAW objects to GM and Chevy going out of business.
it takes away their jobs. - iheartcrack, on 03/20/2009, -2/+11Good news especially now that, according to the L.A. Times, the U.S. won't prosecute medical pot sales - http://tinyurl.com/c6qk2o
- aautopsy, on 03/20/2009, -1/+10Vaporization, saturating it in butter, brewing of herbal tea, etc. There are many ways to consume cannabis taht don't include smoking.
