- facelesscoward, on 10/10/2007, -2/+48It's okay to tell people their baby's sex early, as long as you don't forget to use spoiler tags.
- borninda818, on 10/10/2007, -0/+30baby :)
- tonaros, on 11/14/2007, -1/+30I thought this was someone with terrible grammar trying to say "Teach babies about sex early"
- Automotiveseo, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22I didn't know for the first, but we did learn for the second. I think it comes down to tradition. For those who plan ahead, it makes sense to learn the sex. Baby showers and decorating are much easier when you know which way to go.
- Azimuth1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16"Congratulations"?
- borninda818, on 10/10/2007, -3/+18knowing how the baby is gunna die is skipping to the end. Knowing the sex is like skipping the introduction and moving on to ch. 1.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -4/+19You go right ahead make your little boy ware a dress all you want. Then go ahead and blame video games when he hates you and is good and confused.
- saleem, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14if you think the baby's birth is the end of the story, you're prolly not a parent
- nihility, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14One of my mom's co-workers was told he was having a girl, but they got a nice surprise when the child was born with unexpected parts (it was a boy). So actually finding out the sex of the kid isn't 100%. Or their doctor sucked.
- mrgreen4242, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Well, anytime a doctor tells you it's a girl it could still be a boy and they wouldn't be considered ass clowns. If they tell you it's a boy, though, and are wrong then they need to go back to med school. :P
- miriclaire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Genetically screened for what? Arrogance?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Sex? Digg.
- InfiniteNothing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Pffft it's more likely to make the kid go the other way. Kinda like naming the boy Sue.
- mrgreen4242, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7It's just a practical thing to do. You're going to find out 5 months later anyways, so mind as well use that time to get a leg up on the shopping, painting, etc.
- neonenergy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Surprisingly enough, men are just a branch off the female tree... so yes, everyone is a 'girl' for a few months.
the horror - CannedMango, on 10/10/2007, -8/+14Assuming you want to decorate for your baby based on traditional gender roles.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Alive?
- byronm, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Funny.. wife is 10 weeks pregnant and we can't wait to find out the sex. We found out with our first child. There are enough surprises at birth that knowing the sex ahead of time is just about having your cards straight at home. Not like knowing the sex ruins anything... its still one surprise after another when the kid is borne!
- zolaar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Correlation between
- if a parent would want to know the sex of their baby
- if that parent was disappointed by the answer
"I don't care if she'll have identity issues -- wer're naming her Kevin and that's FINAL!" - norman619, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4My responce to that is this:
...what? - norman619, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Na naming a boy Sue will most likely make him a mean and tough SOB. As an adult he will find you in a bar and knock your teeth in.
- fantasticFlan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Boo, social Darwinism. Hooray, beer!
- iamnos, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5We didn't find out, and I'll tell ya, there's surprisingly little you shouldn't buy if you don't know the gender. Stay away from pink, and optionally blue. Aside from that, its pretty much open. Its years before they really require anything gender specific.
- fantasticFlan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Picking names, but yeah, not much.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6The main pro that I can think of in learning the sex of the baby in advance, is to buy clothes for the baby. Other than that I can't really think of anything.
- Sagags, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I thought it said teach your badies sex early lol
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3And what does this have to do with the article? I guess you are against cars since they are used to kill as well? How about knives? Baseball Bats? Rope? Food kills sometimes too so should we be against food as well?
STFU please? - TheCasablancan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3But you should watch out for his dad. You'll recognize him from a worn out picture that his mother had. You'll also know the scar on his cheek and his evil eye.
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3What else could they be? Plants? Protists?
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3O_o What?
- allthewhile, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Ice,
I have two children and I was surprised on the gender both times. They lacked nothing in terms of love, support, and material goods. We merely got green and yellow baby clothes and picked out two names. How, in the name of logic, would knowing the gender ahead of time "make their life better"? - norsurfit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You're going to be surprised at some point - whether it's when the baby is born, or when the doctor tells you the result of the ultra-sound gender test during pregnancy. Either way it's a surprise.
So you might as well find out early -- you still get to be "surprised", but you can actually do something to prepare for the baby. - injury0314, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And the surprises don't stop there.
Wait till the baby is old enough and starts to look way too much like your neighbor bob. /joke - Donald2007, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5But-- what does Ron Paul (PBUH) say?
- YoctoYotta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Oh wait, I'm sorry, I'm being told yes, people do have a choice. Disregard.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2When you hire a nanny THAT's the end of the story.
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think what he's trying to say is that parents shouldn't treat kids like inanimate gifts. They're living, breathing beings and we need to care for them that way. Some people might see kids as a gift like a new car, but they're much more than that, and need to be cared for. If you purposely refuse to know their gender just because you want it to be a surprise, that makes it seem that the birth is more about you than them. Usually, it's not a big deal, though.
- gutistg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2But if you don't dress your little girl in pink, how will anyone know it's gender?!
- IceZZ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The average digg user? Probably a legume. We're talking about people who don't even understand how biological classification works. Digg represents what the general internet population wants to be the truth, but not what the truth is.
- tjrc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Most importantly, naming.
I have two kids. We had amniocentesis, with a genetic test, in both cases, so the gender was known with certainty. We could have asked not to be told (there's actually a spot on the form for that), but why? "Oh, yeah, the day the baby's born will be just so ordinary unless we have the surprise."
I think If I had a boy, he'd kick my ass when he grew up for naming him "Madeleine" or "Genevieve." - IceZZ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Heh, I guess I'm just too used to using proper terminology, I didn't notice. ***** sapiens sapiens is a member of the biological kingdom "Animalia". Thanks for pointing that out though. I guess saying that humans are mammals will probably get me dugg down too...
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Tea leaves
- thesquire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I want to find out, my husband doesn't. What should we do?
- DRock4776, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Nah. We found out early for both of our kids. We were just as surprised then as we would have been on the day they were born. In fact, when your baby is being born there is a ton of stuff going on and it is pretty draining. We didn't really want any surprises at that point - just a healthy baby.
- trollick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Babies learn sex early?
- skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Learn me!!!
- CornStarch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's your child not net years Christmas present, what would you be spoiling?
- jbjhill, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The wife and I were on the fence with a lot of people saying don't do it. When the time came, we said yes and found out we're having a baby girl. The best day of my life so far.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That title was a little confusing. I don't think I would want to know the sex of my child before having it though it would make things easier.
- Mearn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's also called a "Joke"
