- SONYDVDR, on 09/25/2009, -0/+4This just in, Pizza, Nintendo and The Power Rangers all linked to Alzheimers
- spesic, on 09/25/2009, -0/+3There is an interesting speech by Matt Walker, Director of Sleep and Neuroimaging Lab at UC Berkeley.
One of the questions Matt was asked was whether lack of sleep was a cause of conditions of Alzheimers and Dementia.
While it's interesting that one of the consequences of above mentioned conditions is lack of sleep, there is no evidence that lack of sleep causes these conditions.
This is nothing less then a sensationalist article supported by no factual evidence.
I encourage everyone interested in sleep and memory, and how they correlate to check out Matt's speech by following the link below.

- SemiSarcastic, on 09/25/2009, -0/+2Awesome, I can add that to the fact that there's also a history of Alzheimers in my family so yeah...When are we going to get back into stem cell research again?
- BeBigs, on 09/25/2009, -0/+2Same here. I've had terrible sleeping patterns all through high school and of course its during my senior year they figure this out. Haha. That's life I guess.

- shubh09, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1Sleeping for longer can limit the formation of plaques, and perhaps block it altogether. When we're awake, our brains are more active and this causes us to produce more beta-amyloid protein.
- arunforce, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1Well, looks like it's time to call it a day.
- KyleJorgy, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1I like my my sleep patterns so whatever.

- ErwinOnDigg, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1This does not bode well for me.
- Captain05, on 09/25/2009, -0/+0So does this mean lack of sleep is a medical reason to go into work late...or even a period of absence? I don't see why not.
"Boss, I'm trying to decrease my chances of getting Alzheimers. I'm going to have to take 2 weeks of medical leave for hibernation," - inactive, on 09/25/2009, -12/+0umm ok who cares jus get 8 hours a sleep every day it aint that hard nerdzzz
