She lay on the linoleum, writhing in pain, for 45 minutes, as staffers worked at their desks and numerous patients looked on. Aside from one patient who briefly checked on her condition, no one helped her. A janitor cleaned the floor around her as if she were a piece of furniture. A closed-circuit camera captured everyone's apparent indifference."
Only in Amer...... - SylvyrPhoenix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This happens more frequently than people realize in this country. Hopefully this woman's death helps to bring about serious health care reform, so that the horrible way that she died will not be in vain.

It would seem the county commissioner being quoted has never worked in an emergency department before. People come in angling for narcotic meds all the time. Back pain, headache, and abdominal pain are favorite complaints. All those people crying wolf have led to a very skeptical ER staff, both at that hospital and everywhere else. - esoterroriffik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I guess the triage nurse didn't see Sicko yet.
