- ConcernedCanuck, on 08/14/2008, -12/+794Digg, Curing Cancer daily since 2004.
- absentmindedjwc, on 08/14/2008, -0/+266"curing" cancer requires more than 4 out of 38... once it gets into larger clinical trials, they may find that the 4 out of 38 was a fluke... or perhaps, will find that 100 out of 1000 people die from the drug due to severe reaction.
I do really hope that this drug is safe and goes on the market, perhaps even surpassing it's first clinical trial, and jumping to a success rate of 400 or 500 out of 1000 in a larger trial; but with such a small study, nothing can be "confirmed" - billizm, on 08/14/2008, -1/+1874 of 38 people were rid of cancer and 5 others saw 50% tumor reduction. So what about the other ~75% of the people? I think the title is a bit too presumptuous.
- MrJagil, on 08/14/2008, -9/+171Diggers, posting that exact comment since 2004.
- engelb15, on 08/14/2008, -4/+147Regardless, insurance companies in the US will call it 'experimental' so they won't have to pay for it.
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -4/+104Really? Seriously? It cures Cancer!? Holy *****, I haven't seen an article about cancer cures in like 3 1/2 minutes!
This IS earth-shattering. - TrueXtremeIcon, on 08/14/2008, -1/+94Disgruntled Diggers, posting that exact comment reply since 2004.
- Livewired, on 08/14/2008, -0/+81I wonder if all these "confirmed cures" are really just news sources regurgitating hear-say until it comes full circle.
- lordwow, on 08/14/2008, -3/+77"You're all cured! Well... at least you 4. And you 5 have a pretty good shot..."
- marm0lade, on 08/14/2008, -2/+601000 out of 1000 people are going to die with or without the cancer.
- Dignan666, on 08/14/2008, -13/+694 of 38 cured? IN YOUR FACE GOD! IN YOUR FACE!!!!
- imbachr, on 08/14/2008, -0/+44Okay sure, 2 of 38 patients, non-Hodgkins lymphoma cured. How about breast cancer? Lung cancer? Sounds promising, I'm sure this will make the front page since it's a "OMGCANCERCUREDFOREVER" article, and submitted by the ubiquitous MakiMaki
- ethanpack, on 08/14/2008, -0/+41Agreed. Many could either die or turn into nocturnal, vampire-like creatures. Only a small number will be totally immune to these horrible effects - including one of the doctors involved in creating this "wonder drug." Seemingly alone in the world, he will spend the rest of his life trying to fix this mess.
That would be an awesome movie, just gotta come up with a good ending... - dharcha1, on 08/14/2008, -3/+38now will smith is going to have to save us all.
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -1/+32dugg for truth
- Totz83, on 08/14/2008, -1/+30Wow, AIDS and Cancer in the same day! Next on the agenda, the common cold... =p
- dafragsta, on 08/14/2008, -1/+30Presumptuous and inaccurate title on the Digg front page? You don't say.
- Chomprel, on 08/14/2008, -0/+29Aww, hell no!
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -1/+29Beats the side effects of cancer.
- ZeeZee2k, on 08/14/2008, -0/+26Look, this one is confirmed, it says in the title.
- benologist, on 08/14/2008, -2/+281000 out of 1000 people are probably going to die from the cancer anyway.... if I had to choose I'd go with the drug even if there was a 50/50 chance of being cured or killed.
- Kenzan, on 08/14/2008, -2/+27I'll bet that weed is really, really good.
- compguy101101, on 08/14/2008, -10/+34I can't but help think about the umbrella corporation in the mentioning of T-Cells. So good news but possibly horrifying.
- Quaterni0n, on 08/14/2008, -0/+22Not necessarily. They'll compare the cost with an estimated projection of how much they'll end up paying in the long run if they don't support that treatment.
- TheXeno, on 08/14/2008, -2/+23Beware the zombie mutation. Call Will Smith's agent, he'll be needed shortly.
- TheInfamousOne, on 08/14/2008, -5/+26Only people who believe in god stone people.
- chrissku, on 08/14/2008, -0/+20"Four of 38 patients treated have seen the disease disappear"
When they can comfortably say "38 of the 38 patients have seen the disease disappear" I'll be much more impressed. This is progress, not a cure. - donkevin, on 08/14/2008, -0/+20Digg cured AIDS twice today and now Cancer. What next!?
- gutterboy, on 08/14/2008, -3/+22I ***** hate cancer. The way it slowly tears down the people you love is so painful and I wish it upon no one. I won't believe the cure is finally found until it is on every news outlet and being shouted from the roof tops. Because anyone who has had a loved one get cancer knows how ***** amazing this day would truly be. ***** you digg and your "confirmed" news stories.
- cowman80i9, on 08/14/2008, -2/+20uh oh time for everyone to become zombie-vampires
- JohnP, on 08/14/2008, -0/+18Did you even read the article? 7 out of 7 given the full treatment had a more than 50% reduction, 2 of which were fully cured. With others cured with PARTIAL treatment only.
If thats not amazing then youre expecting way too much from medicine.
"two of the seven who received the highest doses of the drug saw their cancer disappear while five others had reductions in their tumours of more than 50 per cent. " - kingUssop, on 08/14/2008, -1/+18Burying because I'm sick of sensational titles on cancer treatment articles.
- pciulla, on 08/14/2008, -2/+18"we cured cancer" um I am Legend?
- frequentFlyer, on 08/14/2008, -0/+16explosive diarrhea and blindness - at the same time. OMG where's the toilet?
- grobinson, on 08/14/2008, -1/+17So what happened to the other 29?
- hamandcheeseUK, on 08/14/2008, -0/+14I support this even more if theres a possibility of a zombie outbreak
- GoKings, on 08/14/2008, -0/+14Breaking News - Magic Johnson still alive: Aids Cured
- diggThis77, on 08/14/2008, -2/+15Emma Thompson isn't the scientist that developed this per chance is she??
- Ploppyplop, on 08/14/2008, -1/+14Arthritis, apparently.
- AzeemAhmed, on 08/14/2008, -6/+19thus ruining more lives, get out of america while you can!
- Jacob, on 08/14/2008, -0/+13Digg didn't have comments in 2004
- Kenzan, on 08/14/2008, -0/+12Call me a skeptical bastard, but I have a hard time believing that on what could be "the most significant breakthrough in human history," The Telegraph scooped everybody else.
- treed, on 08/14/2008, -0/+10That's Emma Watson.
- footodors, on 08/14/2008, -0/+8"two of the seven who received the highest doses of the drug saw their cancer disappear while five others had reductions in their tumours of more than 50 per cent. "
- Unlgued, on 08/14/2008, -0/+8Ten percent of the time... it works Every Time.
- jkgm, on 08/14/2008, -1/+9I totally read that in Hubert J. Farnsworth's voice.
- painting, on 08/14/2008, -4/+12;-)
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -2/+10"55555" - LOL
you're not new enough to say something so ridiculous... as part of your orientation to digg, know that nearly every hour of everyday diggers discover an article that cures AIDS/HIV/Cancer/Alzheimers/Assburgers/etc. This is nothing new. - TrueXtremeIcon, on 08/14/2008, -2/+9+1 for "Assburgers"
- xbunsenx, on 08/14/2008, -10/+17Three words:
