"Narcotics officers estimate each plant can produce 1 pound of marijuana, an amount that fills a large freezer bag, while an estimated 1 ounce of marijuana can fit into a sandwich bag."
This is why anyone that knows anything about Marijuana can't take anyone from law enforcement seriously when they talk about drugs. They dont know what the ***** they are talking about.
1 Pound per plant!! In what ***** world?? The best growers in Amsterdam are LUCKY, LUCKY to get 3-4 ounces per plant per yield. High yield strains such as Gigabud and Big Bud under extremely optimal growing conditions will get you 500-700 grams per square meter, 4 plants to the square meter. Do the math, 700 grams = 1.5 pounds. Ask any grower how they would feel pulling a quarter pound from a single plant. Trust me, the answer would be 'I WISH' The truth is, marijuana needs to be dried and cured before it can be smoked. During the drying and curing process harvested Marijuana will loose 75% of its weight. So this officer may be talking about harvested weight, which may well be over a pound a plant, but when that weed dries, it will weigh 3/4 of its harvested weight.
To claim that 12 plans would yield 12 pounds of SMOKABLE marijuana is a ***** lie...... - ZhiZaki, on 04/26/2009, -1/+13I have no doubt it will take some time to iron out legislation for medical marijuana ( and hopefully personal use ), however I have faith it will be successful.
- Hazardc, on 04/26/2009, -0/+11Just legalize it. this whole medical crap is stupid and has too many grey areas.
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -1/+9The speed limit isn't 55. It was shown that it didn't benefit society, just as you can't show that pot laws benefit society.
- freshgrease, on 04/26/2009, -2/+10Baby steps. It takes time.
- greanbean, on 04/27/2009, -0/+7A pound per plant? Clearly these cops have never grown weed or know how to grow some fire!
- Hazardc, on 04/27/2009, -0/+7they're also a lot more addictive and have considerably more side effects.
- InfamousSputnik, on 04/27/2009, -0/+7Sigh...
I miss the Great Lake State. - inactive, on 04/26/2009, -1/+7Drug enforcement officers whining about loopholes just goes to show what a sham it all is. Why should they care if people are obtaining marijuana for recreational purposes via loopholes, aside from the fact that they get a big fat paycheck for sitting on their asses all day and busting stoners? *****, they're just scared 'cause they might have to go after real criminals and, you know, actually do their ***** job.
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -1/+7I still don't understand why pot is illegal. What purpose does the law serve? Answer me that.
- Pigeon, on 04/27/2009, -0/+6Benefits society how GraceLikeRain?
I smoke it. I also work. I also pay taxes. I have no criminal record. etc. etc. I smoke pot for the same reason others drink beer. I like it.
What about the damage it does to society?
Thousands of non-violent (ie. not a threat) people in jail just for smoking a plant.
$Millions in keeping these non-violent "offenders" in jail.
$Millions in law enforcement which doesn't work anyway (Pot is easy to find and buy).
PS. Speed limits are there to stop retards killing everyone else when their driving "skillz" are not as hot as they thought they were @ 100mph. - Axias, on 04/27/2009, -0/+6YES, cops, judges, lawyers and penetentiarys all want this EVIL weed to stay illegal. It's a total CASH CROP for them! Weed smokers aren't all strung out and broke like your meth-heads, you can actually FINE them and get some money, or better yet, force em through the legal system (thats where the REAL money is!).
Lawyer: $1-3k, Probation $25 wk, 1~3 yrs($1k-4k), fines: $500-$2k, LAB FEES, for 'testing your weed' and then all the drug tests ($1k-4k). And if they jail ya, thats tax dollars towards the prison system! They NEED to keep these jails full! (Won't you think of the prison guards? They need easy work! Sooo many unskilled workers!!).
And ZOMG! Imagine if they started using HEMP! It will be a nightmare for the cotton and textile industry!! Hemp is like 16x less expensive to manufacture and it lasts 3-4x as long as cotton!!
You guys are CRAZY making this stuff legal. It's going to ruin a LOT of easy gigs.. - kanabiis, on 04/27/2009, -0/+6Which is exactly what is wrong with the system. When the 'experts' are factually incorrect who is going to stand up for you?
Using wet weight as any indicator of street value, or worst yet for the person busted, the amount of marijuana they posses is criminal.
Yet nobody calls them out on this ever. Imagine if just one journalist had the sense to start asking the right questions.... yea right, who am I kidding.... Imagine, a journalist doing their job... - kanabiis, on 04/26/2009, -2/+8Yes, facts from the government..... because they would NEVER lie to you...
- SparkMoVement, on 04/27/2009, -0/+5I live in michigan and voted yes on this. I will agree, it has been a very difficult task actually getting your id card. But with my upcoming doctors visit i am hoping to get the proper medical documents. Ive suffered from migraines since i was a child so this would help me tremendously, and also it would be nice having some peace of mind knowing i can carry 2.5 oz on me.
- justinsipe, on 04/26/2009, -0/+5Slowly, but surely.... It will take a long time for the rest of the country to join the club. After all, don't we all need some mary jane? Yes! Open your eyes and look at the good marijuana does for people. Our nations cancer patients need this extremely harmless drug. Its what keeps a lot of them alive.
- Pigeon, on 04/27/2009, -1/+6"One study found that an abuser’s risk of heart attack more than quadruples in the first hour after smoking marijuana."
Eating food can make you obese and kill you! Ban food!
"Numerous studies have shown marijuana smoke to contain carcinogens and to be an irritant to the lungs. In fact, marijuana smoke contains 50 to 70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke."
Vaporise. No smoke.
"Several studies associate workers’ alcohol drinking with increased absences, tardiness, accidents, workers’ compensation claims, and job turnover."
C WAT I DID THARE?! - nepidae, on 04/27/2009, -0/+4The worst part is this is in michican. Do they really have the money to go after these victimless non-crimes? Absolutely not.
- catalysis, on 04/27/2009, -0/+4It depends what kind of pain. MJ is not a universal replacement for opiates or other pain killers.
- Crucible1001, on 04/26/2009, -1/+5I take it you don't drink or smoke either.
- catalysis, on 04/27/2009, -0/+4It's probably because cops are used to weighing plants wet when they bust people, to give them a longer jail sentence.
- say592, on 04/27/2009, -1/+5Does not change the fact that it can help medical patients. Even a lot more then cancer, HIV, etc. It can help with depression, PTSD, insomnia and many other illnesses.
Furthermore, whose right is it to determine what I can or can not put into my body. While some my argue that there should be some regulation on dangerous substances, but that is debatable.
Marijuana, however, is virtually harmless if it is consumed in food, or vaporized. - sabach, on 04/27/2009, -1/+4That's about the stupidest ***** I've ever read.
- nepalikakro, on 04/27/2009, -0/+3I totally read the URL as "livingstoneddaily.com"
- dty2010, on 04/27/2009, -0/+3I've never even smoked weed and one pound per plant seemed ridiculous to me.
- nepidae, on 04/27/2009, -0/+3So should we have prosecuted black people who had broken unjust laws after they were repealed? That is an extreme example, but no one who is without an ulterior motive (aka hating on "stoners") can say that continuing prosecution is more than a waste of money. And for ***** sake this is Michigan, they don't have the money anyway to keep going after these victimless noncrimes.
- etx313, on 04/27/2009, -0/+3I used to joke about how ***** you are.
- SEANWOOKIE, on 04/26/2009, -1/+3Or you could say "Rome wast built in a day".

you are likely to be eaten by a grue - fata55, on 04/26/2009, -0/+2n'
- xShad0w, on 04/27/2009, -1/+3Medical patients are supposed to use vaporizers so they don't inhale burned plant material, it then doesn't irritate the lungs by the high heat of the smoke and the smoke is also just the THC which is what they need.
- sodade, on 04/27/2009, -0/+2Good luck with having your name on a list for the feds...
- urbanetruth, on 05/01/2009, -0/+1yawn
- sodade, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1Not if you actually enjoy voiding your bowels every day...
- TheNyquilKid, on 04/29/2009, -0/+1This sums up the entire problem, They spout off half truths and flat out lies, and because they are supposed to be an "expert" they get taken on their word and the next time the question how "How much does a plant produce?" comes up someone who read this article will spit the same ***** back out as fact and so on.
- ininetysix, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1This is my from hometown paper. We used to joke about how ***** it was. I was surprised to see it on Digg.
- dty2010, on 04/27/2009, -1/+1That would make sense if you weren't wrong.

- mdelling, on 04/26/2009, -9/+6agreed... there seem to be a lot of them on digg, what with us having something about it on the front page every freakin' day.

Annis...bowel..lol. - Sunscreen, on 04/27/2009, -6/+2I'm for legalization and everything...but who in their right mind would rather have marijuana for pain relief instead of Vicodin and Oxycontin? Opiates are much better for pain.
- akchrs, on 04/26/2009, -9/+2exactly.
- inactive, on 04/27/2009, -9/+2Dear Mods: could we please get a "Blithering Idiot" tag, where the six-hundred daily "Legalize Pot" thread can be combined with the six-hundred daily "Angry Freeper" threads? Seriously, the rest of us get it already: The Potheads are pissed because pot isn't legal, and the Freepers are pissed because there's a Democrat in the White House. There's really nothing new to be added to the discussion.
