- thecosmicpope, on 07/16/2008, -0/+50"Is reading in a moving car bad for your health?"
"Reading in the car is not really bad for your health..."
Well that is that mystery solved. - Cate320, on 07/16/2008, -0/+24I can't read (or play video games) in a car if I try to do it while looking down. However, if I hold the book up to eye height I'm ok. Seems just that little bit of movement in my peripheral vision is enough to prevent the vertigo.
- manzplan, on 07/16/2008, -0/+21I have always felt poorly after reading in a car, my wife is the same, it gives her headaches.
- alapoet, on 07/15/2008, -2/+23What about reading in a speeding car being pursued by the police?
- dheaddy, on 07/16/2008, -0/+18What about speed reading in a stationary car?
- Dozernotz, on 07/16/2008, -0/+14What about doing speed at the police station?
Wait, what were we talking about again? - TheBadWolf, on 07/16/2008, -1/+14Because I didn't have to actually open the article to find out the answer. I like this system.
- Enderplayer1, on 07/16/2008, -0/+12Thank goodness for answers to things we never asked.
- Karmavs, on 07/16/2008, -0/+12What about reading stationery in a police car?
- ih2000, on 07/16/2008, -0/+11When I was a kid, I used to read in the car all the time...
I now have irritable bowel syndrome...
True story. - Maximilian000, on 07/15/2008, -7/+17What about reading in a stationary car?
- ileftfark, on 07/16/2008, -0/+10FTA: “If you can read in the car without its bothering you, it’s O.K. to do,” Dr. Stewart said. “If you have a hard time, avoid it, or do it only for brief intervals, trying to keep your perspective on motion as much as possible.”
"Hey Doc! It hurts when I move my arm!"
"Then stop moving your arm." - PDF84, on 07/16/2008, -3/+13I wouldnt consider temporary motion sickness "bad" for your health.
- agreenall, on 07/16/2008, -0/+9When did digg become like Fox news...
"Later in news: did Bush have a secret affair with Collin Powel?"
Later: "No" - innocentsinner, on 07/16/2008, -0/+9Yea, I feel slightly sick to my stomach and get a mild headache when I try to read in a moving vehicle. Which sucks, of course, because I love to read and hate long car trips.
- jmm5149, on 07/16/2008, -0/+7Dugg for answering headline directly in the description
- Karmavs, on 07/16/2008, -0/+7They’d be reading you your rights soon enough; it’d be rude to start the reading without them.
- jlab, on 07/16/2008, -3/+10Why ask the question in the article headline and then answer it in the summary?
- mal1964, on 07/16/2008, -0/+7I'll have to read it later, I'm in the car.
- Dozernotz, on 07/16/2008, -0/+6Check back though. They're doing "Sitting too close to the TV" tomorrow.
- Myonosken, on 07/16/2008, -2/+8Did anyone ever consider it bad for your health beyond a few hours of feeling sick?
- Dozernotz, on 07/16/2008, -0/+5Speak for yourself.
IN YOUR FACE MOM! - geobay, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4So you're that freak with the boner...
- innocentsinner, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4Well, it seems open-and-shut. If you read in the car, ih2000 will suffer from IBS :(
- jimmick, on 07/16/2008, -1/+5Oh good, I can cross car sickness off my list off carcinogenic things.
- jamesdew, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4depends on what you are reading
- DangerMouse9, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4Buried for telling us why you dugg it, like the rest of us give a *****.
- Duositex, on 07/16/2008, -1/+4No. Next.
Stop asking questions in headlines digg. Just stop. - DangerMouse9, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3And they would've gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for you kids.
- cygnus2112, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3This doctor's statements prove that they need to remove all street signs, billboard ads and advertisements from our roads - think of all the lives we could save.
- Asianwaste, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Q. Is reading in a moving car bad for your health? Why do some people get carsick when they do?
A. “Reading in the car is not really bad for your health, although it can make you feel bad,” said Dr. Michael G. Stewart
That doctorate is paying for itself, isn't it? - WallnutBoy, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2I feel so responsible... =(
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3I always get a boner when I ride the bus. I'm not sure why. I don't even like buses.
- wdarling, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2I've been reading in cars since I could first read and it's never been a problem. I read on cars, buses, trains, planes, boats, escalatosr, elevators, stairs. Movement has no effect, if you learn to compensate for it.
- Acglaphotis, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Hahaha, first, why should we digg it because we found it of educational interest? Most digging is done through shouts now. And second it's 'were'. And third, no, they were already 10 to begin with and have been 10 since the influx of retards of 2007 with the hd-dvd key.
- apsk121, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Bad or not, it gives me a terrible headache every time I try. So the real question for me atleast is: Is it possible to read in a moving car?
- elefaint, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2I saw a bus driver reading a newspaper while driving once, no joke. I decided to walk.
- Azuroth, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Self driving cars would be completely awesome, but seriously, when I can see that there are no cars for twenty miles, and there isn't anything around to hit even if I were to run off the road, what's the problem? If I crash I'm just removing myself from the gene pool, no one else.
Besides, read a sentence, scan the road, read a sentence, scan the road, and some reasonable driving ability to go in a straight line, I didn't run off the road anyway. - karmaghost, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2Question in the title is answered in the subtitle. What's the point of this article?
- Hainawa, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1I had thought it was bad for my eyes.
- pollyboxer, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Very true. I always get car sick. Vertigo...
- tecunx, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1I tend to read while I am on the bus. Years ago it gave me nauseas and headaches, but i got over them. Several people who travelled with me told me that I should stop, that my retina would get damaged, since it was trying to focus on a still image, amidst a moving environment. I never took them seriously.
The question still comes back every now and then. Too bad the article does not go beyond the vertigo. - Acglaphotis, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Nah.
- FreeTalkLIve, on 07/17/2008, -1/+2Why does reading in a car cause dizzyness and headaches?
I mean why should it? - urik88, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Weird. I've never felt bad while reading in a car, and I've read in cars for hours some times.
- toekneebullard, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Audiobooks FTW
- DangerMouse9, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Yes. I read street signs all the time when I'm in a moving car.
- pockiez, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1"...otorhinolaryngology..."
Okay.... - DangerMouse9, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Then again, it may not.
