- WorldLeader, on 07/17/2009, -0/+36I am a Digg user and I am addicted to the Internet.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -1/+34It's not an addiction if you have no where to go or nothing else to do. It's a coping mechanism.
- popzero, on 07/17/2009, -0/+29Only if it can have online meetings.
- joshmoney, on 07/17/2009, -0/+27I don't know what they're talking about. I've gotten up and left my computer at least 3 times today!
- Llanowar, on 07/17/2009, -0/+19What about the people who have a job that involves them spending time in front of a glowing rectangle?
- Crucible1001, on 07/17/2009, -0/+14We are just addicted to information, socialization and entertainment. That is perfectly okay. Before the internet this still occurred just as much.
- zeth006, on 07/17/2009, -0/+13I'm unemployed at the moment and aside from the occasional reading/studying, I don't have much else to do. Maybe about half an hour on digg, few hours watching movies and crap, and left4dead =-/
But I've always been rather socially awkward, so the causal relationship can arguably be reversed either way. One could say that because I've always been kinda a loner, staying on the internet's an escape.

Either way, I have YET to have my name appear on Digg's front page in some story about some kid who played WoW/CS/L4D/some other game for 9999 hours straight without eating/drinking/sleeping before meeting his unfortunate death. - billraydrums, on 07/17/2009, -0/+13***** YOU. I can quit anytime. I can, really. No, yeah, I can......
- villainousT, on 07/17/2009, -1/+11I'm sure tons of parents are saying their children are addicted...hell, even themselves. Anyone want to go in on starting an internet addiction clinic? ;p
- zantos420, on 07/17/2009, -0/+7Yes, and CAD, otherwise known as Cubicle Addiction Disorder, is a real disease, too. You know, because some people spend roughly 8 hours a day in a cubicle. Or hey, about about OAD- Outdoors Addiction Disorder! All those damn landscapers being addicted to being outside!

- zyklon, on 07/17/2009, -0/+6On dialup. Remember, this is recovery, and one half of recovery is accepting defeat.

- njb444, on 07/17/2009, -0/+5I think this is kind of obvious, but does anyone else find it ironic that we're all reading this story on the internet?

- marcb83, on 07/17/2009, -0/+41. You need to use the computer in order to experience pleasure excitement or relief.
2. You lose control when not on the computer, become anxious, angry, or depressed.
3. You have overwhelming thoughts about the computer before you power it up, while it is on, and after you have turned it off
4. You crave the newest hardware or software, and you are never satisfied with what you have.
5. You need to spend increasing amounts of time or money on computer activities in order to get the same effect.
6. you lie to everybody about the amount of time spent on the computer and where you are spending that time.
7. you risk the loss of relationships with your family and friends because of your compulsive computer use.
8. you face financial trouble, or even ruin, because of excessive computer use.
9. you repeatedly fail at efforts to stop your compulsive computer use.
10. Your physical health suffers because you miss meals, do not exercise and neglect personal hygiene.
11. You experience repetitive stress injuries, backaches, dry eyes, migraines, and changes in sleep patterns as a result of excessive computer use. you may even have seizures(which may require hospitalization) because of the constant motion that you experience while playing some action games. - zomgflamer, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4Its too much work reading sex novels so I just watch them on the computer.
- repubocrat, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4NO WAY! *Commented on Digg.com at 12:37am*
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3It's not so much an addiction as it is a domino effect.
- flutezilla, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3Digg is my drug
- TheFuzzyOne, on 07/17/2009, -1/+4I'm so excited to be labeled with one more thing by ignorant luddites.
- tgc1, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3Who says we're suffering? Something tells me if you want to be on the Internet, you do it voluntarily. At least I do. I'm generally speaking on the net for about 10-12 hours a day. Everyday. All year. For years.
I work online, leisure online etc... - inchrnt, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3addicted? or employed =P
- a7r3ides, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3i don't think i'm addicted to the internet, i think i'm addicted to entertainment (tv, games etc). and the internet is just the easiest way to get it.... on second thought i guess i am addicted. here's the denial phase.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Sounds like all of us.
- cheerfulcynic, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2some kind of bot that snags bits of previous comments. look at it's comment history.
- tomarocco, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2I got the fever.
- dawnraid101, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Lol whut?
- NeddieSeagoon, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Go easy on them - they suffer from Excessive Pontification Disorder
- marcb83, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2I think you're doing it wrong.
- marcb83, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2My teacher had a list of 10 things linked to computer addiction she read off in class I believe I qualified for 9 of them including carpal tunnel syndrome which I have since fixed by quitting wow and getting a ergonomic mouse pad.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2"Apparently Chinese parents voluntarily commit their children to Yang's psychiatric boot camp for around $500 per month (which, by Chinese standards, is enormously expensive)"
***** $500 per month is enormously expensive by my standards, I have trouble paying $8 a month for x-box LIVE - syntaxgs, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3LOL that a fish =D
- aivzdog, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2OMG who is not addicted to the internet these days. Atleast everyone on digg is :P
- zeth006, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Hey, I just mentioned that in my comment below!
- blackturtleus, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Before the computer a lot of people could have been considered to be "addicted" to the television or to movies. Computers are a huge improvement over those passive forms of entertainment and information gathering. Of course, it could be that most people spend a large portion of their waking hours in front of a screen of one sort or another. Let's see, phones have screens, GPS's have screens, there are screens on the gas pump, etc.
- burgerkinghorn, on 09/02/2009, -0/+2In the past few months I have noticed myself spending more and more time online. I just need to check my email, and my bank balances, and favorite webcomics, Digg, fap session, etc, ....
I intended only a few minutes but end up wasting hours up to the majority of the day. I think it's turning into a real problem and I want to scale it back. - sageerrant, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Try heroin.
It'll knock you right off that net addiction in no time! - MyMainMan, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2You can be big time addicted to anything! As long as it isn't a destructive form of addiction where it interferes with activities that has to be done to maintain a normal everyday life!
Things like going to work, studying, balancing your budget, maintaining important relationships with people you love, physical health, mental health and so on.
If you don't have any problems with these things, I see it as a positive addiction since using the net is such a positive thing in so many ways. - uberduger, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2*Hug*
- linagee, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Two of my friends died from internet addiction disorder!
- linagee, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3Do you like fish sticks?
- falconear, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1The trick to breaking Internet addiction is to get a job where you can waste all your time on Digg. You get paid for it, but it's associated with being at work. Truly, I have no desire at all to get on the Internet when I get home after running out of things to look at for 8 hours a day. While taking tech support calls, of course. :)
