- IphtashuFitz, on 11/12/2008, -3/+26Depends on the pandemic. If it's the Rage virus then in about 28 weeks nobody gets to live.
- stonebear, on 11/12/2008, -0/+23At the beginning of the 1918 epidemic, at least in the US anyway; medical authorities gave priority status to the rich in triage. First autonomously, then under federal mandate. If course; that quickly became irrelevant as the medical system was overwhelmed, and hospitals were reduced to providing little more than brief hospice care to anyone.
Nothing has really changed; the American medical system is still set up to service the rich, and only reluctantly the middle class and poor. That is what it will automatically do, and its unlikely the political will will exist to direct it to do otherwise. The 96% "developing world" casualties almost surely includes the vast majority of Americans who are not wealthy. And it's every bit as sure it can manage such a pandemic as it was before the 1918. Much is made of the fact the people are healthier in general than they were then, but the virus will have adapted to that, just like it adapted to the strong young men in the trenches of WWI - Zervaman, on 11/14/2008, -0/+20Save the atheists/agnostics. The religious folks should have help from their god(s), right?
- cloudberries, on 11/14/2008, -1/+20Hmm... I wonder if they'll need web designers during the next global pandemic. Damn.
- ScottMitchell, on 11/14/2008, -0/+19Essential enough to commandeer about $700,000,000,000 of our tax dollars.
- asgardshill, on 11/14/2008, -0/+19My ex. Not even an all-out nuclear attack can kill cockroaches.
- inactive, on 11/14/2008, -1/+19This is why we need to train young adults by making them play Left 4 Dead
Remember kids, in the event of a Zombie Apocalypse, crouch when in the front, conserve ammo and health kits and don't shoot the ***** car! - Dundasbro, on 11/14/2008, -0/+16Shut. Down. Everything!
- mrbradg, on 11/14/2008, -3/+17Great...something more to be scared of. Let's see what the nets are saying: Obama is the AntiChrist, The world will end 12-12-2012 and also NewYears 2000 (wait that already passed) and now what we have to look forward to is "maybe" being one of the lucky few who survives some world wide pandemic until all that other stuff hits. WHAT AN AWESOME DAY!!!
Just keep livin folks....that's all we can do. Take all this stuff like the wind. Just let it flow by. - kingmanic, on 11/14/2008, -0/+14Vaccines aren't 100% proof against illness. It only works well when everyone gets it. Small pox also isn't as infections as you think. Try another disease.
- DeadBabyFloat, on 11/14/2008, -0/+14came to post this. Madagascar is full of *****, if they get infected first, they will gladly let it spread. but the second someone in china sneezes, they sink underwater.
- inactive, on 11/14/2008, -3/+15Uhh well yeah, the "elites" are the folks running the country. Of course "they" get the vaccines first.
Who do you expect them to give it to? some homeless guy? you?
By the way, buried for incorrect use of the term "cannon fodder" - recoil669, on 11/14/2008, -1/+13^^ and greenland and new zealand and indonesia... but usually madagascar. DAMN YOU KING MADAGASCAR!
- Jaime2000, on 11/14/2008, -0/+11I take it you have been playing Pandemic 2?
Seriously, I hate Madagascar. Every other nation gets devoid of life but that one. - inactive, on 11/14/2008, -1/+11I don't know what the next pandemic will be, but I know the one pandemic that we are weathering right now. Fearmongering. Buried
- Skafia, on 11/14/2008, -0/+10If you've ever played the game, you know Madagascar is the only place to survive.

- Murdats, on 11/14/2008, -0/+9and please don't shoot someone in the back with a shotgun or shoot a zombie who is attacking someone by standing behind it, the bullets that go past the zombie hit your friend in the face.
- riverrunner, on 11/13/2008, -0/+8ant overlords of course
- kinseyincanada, on 11/14/2008, -0/+7is there some new meme i dont know about?

- ninjaskimo, on 11/14/2008, -0/+6It's a flash game, Pandemic 2
- cr12345, on 11/14/2008, -0/+6He can't. His ex took the TV.
- palehorse864, on 11/14/2008, -0/+6A band of ragtag survivors comprised of a sampling of age, gender, and ethnicity. These survivors will have some immunity to the pandemic and manage to live because they can fight off the now massive zombie hoard.
- shanesemler, on 11/14/2008, -0/+6You don't watch Mythbusters, do you?
- gatorfree, on 11/14/2008, -0/+5If history is any guide than I'd say a Pandemic would create "A World in Chaos," "Lord of the Rings: Conquest," and "Destroy All Humans."
- Sarkos, on 11/14/2008, -1/+6The whole "save the truck drivers" angle is pretty stupid. Anyone can learn to drive a truck. But who's gonna build websites once the pandemic's over?
- Digglu, on 11/14/2008, -0/+5The only defense is to start hoarding zombies early.
- ScottMitchell, on 11/14/2008, -0/+4Zing!
- Hurricane, on 11/14/2008, -0/+4Why, the rich of course, why even ask this question?
- Daiken, on 11/14/2008, -0/+4The person with the highest diggs per submission ratio of course...just kidding. It's okay MakiMaki, you'll die early just like the rest of us.
- Betrayer, on 11/14/2008, -1/+5Who gets to live... the Americans.... the study it self said most of the 51 million deaths will be in third world countries.
so yea the president of the US should make shure the USA is covered... F the rest of the world.
(who would the president of France elect to save in a pandemic.. the germans?)....
what a silly question... - Altotus, on 11/14/2008, -0/+4It certainly can work that way, but if you compare the countries where there's universal tax-payer subsidized healthcare versus countries that don't, you find that overall, the folks in countries with the universal healthcare receive more care and benefits, have much higher probability of receiving acute care and tend to receive maintenance care for chronic conditions.
I live in a country without anything in the way of tax-subsidized care, but half my family lives in a country that has full universal healthcare (plus some private physicians). True enough, there are some things for which there's waiting lists, but compared to the country I live in now where something like 40% never receive any medical treatment and can go bankrupt by receiving acute care...
Were it a pandemic situation, I'd just assume the universal system where everyone is inoculated as vaccine is available, versus half the population skipping and rotting in the streets because they couldn't pony up the cash. - Gloogle, on 11/14/2008, -0/+4This might sound stupid, but most of the houses here in the dominican republic are zombie proof lol. They have like 11 feet walls all around the backyard, easy accesible roof from the backyard without risk of exposure. Gated entrance with metal fences the zombies might have to break that barrier then get through a second barrier, and then finally the main door :). The only problem though is the food. :( And well we just have a dull machete.
- whiteonyx981, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3Buried for being depressing, fear-mongering, the 4 page layout that can easily be one, and providing stupid answers. Doctors and truckdrivers? That's all the author can come up with?
- Altotus, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3The correct answer, from the biological point of view, is those that exhibit a natural resistance to the contagion. Any other answer is one where some human interference is interfering with proper natural selection.
- soupdawg30, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3If you're like me and have any genetically passable illnesses be prepared to not get help.
- rheaume, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3Honestly? Me.
- Zervaman, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3That's funny. I was *sure* that scientific advancement was due to the hard work of, uh, scientists.
- Timpin1, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3just adhere to the Redeker Plan..WWZ FTW!
- pinchduck, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3From the ABC editorial meeting: "It is a slow news day, folks, so we are going to run with the 'pandemic' story. Give me the 'who gets to live' angle".
- inactive, on 11/14/2008, -1/+4B.S. Maybe if we had a free society we could have people making things that prevent pandemics from happening in the first place. If a president has the sole power to decide who lives or dies in any case like this, then the world would already be doomed.
- TheMachine1, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3Plus they will beat the ***** out of Randall Flagg.
- exspasticcomics, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3rich people. enough said.
- Sarkos, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3Soldiers... to fight the zombie hordes?
- ConcernedCanuck, on 11/12/2008, -7/+10"perhaps soon, a president will have to decide whose lives are the most important to save, and whose lives are "nonessential."
The Elites of course for we are all simply cannon fodder.
if an outbreak of small pox were to occur it would infect 90+% of the population within 90 days.
Who do you think will get the vaccines? -
