- Ransomowris, on 10/26/2007, -6/+1318great, now everybody sitting behind me in class thinks im gay.
cool story though - eatsushi, on 10/26/2007, -8/+622Wow! I am very impressed! I'm a bit more motivated to get out of my car while walking my dog now....nah...forget it.
- quomen, on 10/26/2007, -13/+407He looked best about 7 months in.
- neoform, on 10/26/2007, -53/+439He started doing roids in dec 2005..
he's a skinny guy, then suddenly he bulks up like that in a few months? that's steroids all the way. - deviouskoopa, on 10/26/2007, -10/+237Owned by hernia
- brianboyko, on 10/26/2007, -6/+201Okay, excercise works. What scares me, though, is the progress made after 4 months. How'd he do that so fast?
- nonpareil, on 10/26/2007, -5/+199Dude should've stopped in 2005 -- still, massive props for discipline.
- madcaesar, on 10/14/2007, -14/+207Am I the only one who thinks he looks best around 8/6/2003... later on he gets bigger..but he looses his definition and he just looks like a jock douche instead of a fit athletic guy...
- tutivlahos, on 10/26/2007, -7/+195"He went from being 53 years old, to 30 years old, to a 26 year old linebacker."
lol - vuke69, on 10/12/2007, -35/+221Awesome pictures, you can see his personality go from the nice guy in the next cube over, to surfer dude, to roid raging *****. And if you look really closely, you can actually see his penis shrinking from month to month.
- robdiggity, on 10/26/2007, -12/+187"Beefcake.... BEEFCAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!"
- rekrapt, on 10/14/2007, -39/+191Can you guess at which point he started using steroids?
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -16/+136start bodybuilding now and you too can get a hernia.
- Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+119@neoform (#5964181)
We of Digg are the universal arbiters of douchebaggery based solely on appearance. - JurneyAhed, on 10/12/2007, -5/+114Is waxing mandatory? =S
- EBFoxbat, on 10/26/2007, -12/+115Hernia? Maybe all that lifting wasn't so good for you. He's too big in the end. I've got thighs like that, it's too hard to buy pants. Caharts are one of the few that make pants with big thighs but not a big waist.
- bmilleker, on 10/14/2007, -41/+143Ignorant people.
Steroids? Or he realized what it takes to grow muscle.
For 4 years this guy has probably put in at least an hour a day at the gym. His diet is probably designed for maximum muscle growth. Don't just say he was using steroids because he looks muscular and fit. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+109Hah, you people know nothing about ***** fitness.
Steroids?
It's called cutting. You know, where you lose your body fat so that your muscles show through?
Then you begin to bulk to build more muscle (and gain some fat), then you cut again so that new muscle shows.
It's not complicated, but apparently anyone thinks that this achievement, which anyone could do with discipline, was cheated. GTFO. - antoniojvr, on 10/14/2007, -0/+87As he gets in better shape, his underwear gets smaller and smaller. I'm glad he stopped before th thong.
- technogenius, on 10/26/2007, -1/+80he's legit, look at his faq: http://johnstonefitness.com/php/faq.php
he admits to what he's done, there's also his menu on there - rjam710, on 10/12/2007, -4/+80I thought it was pretty cool right up until that "No picture due to hernia surgery." That pretty much killed any motivation I had.
- neoform, on 10/12/2007, -4/+78you can tell he's a douche from those pictures? that's skill.
- RealityCheque, on 10/12/2007, -14/+88Continue to sit at home and play World of Warcraft, and you too can continue being an overweight loser!
***ADDED BONUS***
You will also continue to get picked on!
***AND IF YOU ACT IN THE NEXT 20 MINUTES***
You will continue to be a virgin and be laughed at by girls! - satch, on 10/12/2007, -30/+91Some side effects of steroids:
-Increased hair growth, note legs get significantly hairier around 6/6/2004.
-His skull/jaw begins to grow around 9/6/2004. (impossible naturally)
Coincidently he muscles begin to look unnatural around 9/6/2004 too.
Anyone who's worked for an extended period time in their lives knows that after a while you begin to plateau...especially with the small frame this dude has. This is when this guy obviously got frustrated he wasn't growing quickly enough.
The evidence is irrefutable. - mtrip, on 10/12/2007, -4/+63You can tell when he starts getting laid, it's where he's smiling in all of his pictures.
- j0c1f3r, on 10/12/2007, -29/+88Critical asshats....you can tell geeks dont work out.....1st off the "how did he do so much in 4 months" comment....d00d 4 months of proper diet and exercises should strip of lots of excess weight....6 weeks does alot if you do it right....some core training and you good to go......after 4 years of weight traing and maybe some supplements will definitely bulk you up....not necessarily roids....so put the cheetos down get some water instead of mountain dew go to the gym 4-5 days a week for a couple of hours and get in shape......just stop being jealous.
- spargo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+57He wore the same pair of boxers for the last 12 months.
- tzmguitarist, on 10/26/2007, -35/+83Or he started taking weight gainers...
- starcrunchfx, on 10/12/2007, -13/+52I got a laugh on the "no picture hernia surgery". He didn't learn how to lift correctly.
- jonzor, on 10/12/2007, -5/+42It seems like most people commenting have no clue about bodybuilding. I doubt this guy ever took steroids. He started by cutting to a lower body fat and then when he was happy he started bulking to gain size. You body is either growing (gaining muscle and fat) or shrinking (losing muscle and fat). You cant gain one and lose one at the same time (and to who ever asked if muscle will turn into fat when he stops working out is crazy, muscle cant turn into fat nor can fat turn to muscle they are different types of cells).
He obviously wanted more size and is not done getting his body where he wants it to be. To be big and lean he needs to gain more size (muscle and fat) and then when he is happy with his size start the cutting process again. For a natural lifter it is very hard to maintain muscle mass while cutting fat so its not a bad idea to go bigger (gain more muscle mass) before he starts cutting down to what ever level of body fat he desires.
Also what people fail to realize is that most people are stronger with a bit of fat on them. I bet he was trying to get bigger and stronger and having some fat will help when he goes to lift heavy.
Regardless bodybuilding is a passion for a lot of people and I doubt this guy cares what a lot of people think he looks likes. If he is like a lot of lifters he lifts for his personal satisfaction and strives to reach his own goals (which probably don't correspond with the goals of a bunch of people on the internet that arn't at all familar with the bodybuilding community and culture). I give this guy props on his hard work so far and I bet he will only get better with time. - bking, on 10/14/2007, -7/+42All you people crying "photoshopped" need to get outside more. The fact that you've never put any work into your apperance or body doesn't mean that nobody else can. Put down the Diet Pepsi and go outside.
- IMustBeEmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35He finally learned how to smile in August of 2004...
- Rinnt, on 10/26/2007, -6/+40@neoform
I believe it's legit. With the right diet and program it's not that difficult to put on a lot of weight quickly. I was able to put like 30 lbs on in roughly six months just with weights and some *serious* eating. If the guy is really roiding, you wouldn't see as much fat go on. Look how cut he is early on, then when he bulks he's quite chunky. Definitely a natural bulk. - FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35You can tell that your a complete moron, but its interesting to see someone comment on something they see without putting full thought into it.

Oh yeah, i agree with another poster. he looked best at about 6 to 8 months in. I would have maintained at that point. - ROFLance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26lol, it took him a year and a half to learn how to smile.
- Lafftermath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27THIS JUST IN!!!!
The article was submitted by Carlos Mencia! - thomash, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28I agree. He should have stopped at month 8.
He starts looking really stupid after about month 8 the next year though.
But then different people, different ideals of beauty. Maybe he's aiming for the group of girls who go for the jock douche type of guy. - SteelChicken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Digg is the epitome of clueless nerds making judgements of others without having the knowledge of the subject matter.
- iwasdj, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27Why did he start shaving his legs in March '05? That's too ***** far, man.
- CaseyUCF, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26a six pack makes a guy look vain?? WTF!?? having a 6 pack is something to be proud of.
if you're a girl hating on 6 packs well then no wonder most guys are fat pieces of *****. - spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Might look so similar be because it's the same guy, idiot.
- statikuz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Like he says in his FAQ - a lot of hernias are congenital, his father had one on both sides and wasn't a weightlifter. You can lift a jug of milk and get one if you're predisposed to it.
- queenstarsha, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27really impressive. i know bodybuilding is about a lot more than getting chicks, but from that perspective, it's too bad he started with some sort of growth regimen in late 2004. beefcake is not really attractive to me as a straight woman -- i think the media promotes it because gay men like it, which is fine, of course, just depends on one's target audience. i liked him from about two months in to about july 2004. but even a sixpack just makes a guy look vain, unless bodybuilding is his job.
i don't want to pick apart his body too much, though (that's for misogynists to do to women!). it's inspiring that he turned around that beer belly. - startleman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Depends on your starting point and weight, but as an example, I am 5'9'' and was 188lbs on Jan 16, 2007, and I am down to 163ish today. I've probably lost 25 pounds of fat and gained 10 pounds of muscle. I've been hitting the gym almost daily since January (average 6 days / week). I do a full body weight workout and a cardio workout on alternating days. (e.g. monday : weights, tuesday 45 mins - 1 hr cardio).
Check out http://www.menshealth.com for some good full-body workouts (I'm not affiliated if anyone is wondering).( e.g. http://www.menshealth.com/cda/article.do?site=MensHealth&channel=fitness&category=workout.plans&conitem=d221cce04c38f010VgnVCM20000012281eac____ ) sorry for the long link.
My running has also gone from being able to do a max of about 4 km (taking about 30 mins) to 10 km in about 50 mins, so my heart thanks me too.
But in addition, if you want to lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you take in. I started by simply trying to eat half of what I did before. I drank much more water, and I actually went and got some whey protein. If you want to maintain your muscle mass while losing weight you need to up your protein intake, and do weights pretty consistently. After the first couple of weeks I cut my caloric intake to 1500 or even 1000 some days (which isn't a great idea, I've heard that you should try to not limit your calories more than 10 or 20% below your basal metabolic rate (BMR) see wikipedia). Anyway, I tried to reduce the amount of carbs I ate and increase the amount of protein I ate while keeping the caloric intake relatively low. By doing this I've forced myself to eat much more healthy. e.g. no chips, soda, or candy.
Anyway, It's surprisingly easy to stick to a plan like this when you see quick results. My experience in 3 months is similar to the first three photos is this set (although I wasn't as overweight). As well, my gym has an individual TV in front of each treadmill, so it's difficult to be sitting at home watching family guy or mythbusters when I know I could be doing it on the treadmill at the gym.
Sorry for the long post, but that has been my experience, and I thought some people might be interested and that my plan could be used / and modified to suit. - mdfmk05, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22is that what a man is supposed to look like?
- fivestarsoul, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22does your chest hair just kind of... fall out 4 months after you start working out?
- hexydes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19My guess would be somewhere between as long as four years and as short as one month ago?
- Yeabudy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21This is from http://www.johnstonefitness.com/ if you all would like to see the guy's site.
- florin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Lots of misconceptions here. Let's clear them up.
First, the guy did it backwards. He started by shedding fat, which pretty much blocks any muscle gain. He didn't grow any lean body mass at first, he just got rid of the layer of lard.
He should have started by gaining muscle (which is hard) and worry about getting rid of fat (which is easy) about 18 months later.
That's what many people do. They just start lifting hard, eating a lot, and they bulk up quickly. After a while, about 3 months of carbs-restricted diet is all it takes to bring down the fat from 18...20% or wherever it is to a very good-looking 10% or less.
People who find it hard to reduce the % of fat either follow a bad diet, or their metabolism is pathologically slow. With a lot of lean body mass (muscle) and a metabolism that's accelerated by training, it's trivial to lose many pounds of fat in a short time.
A lot of progress can be made without steroids. A natural athlete can make sustained gains of 2 lb lean body mass / month without steroids, just very good eating, very good training and a healthy life style. Even more than 2 lb / month if you're a total newbie - I went from 140lb to 190lb, all the time staying around 10% body fat (and I'm 6 feet tall), in about a year. No steroids involved - actually, I never took steroids. Oh, and I'm older than 35, which supposedly should make these gains harder. ;-)
Having lots of muscle is not unhealthy. Having lots of fat is _very_ unhealthy. Don't mix these things up.
A guy who's 6 feet tall and weighs 210lb at 10% body fat (a ripped, muscular athlete) is probably as healthy as it gets. Same guy, same 210lb, but at 25% body fat (a couch potato) is a type 2 diabetes casualty waiting to happen.
Steroids don't shrink the penis. If anything, they probably enlarge it slightly.
They will shrink the balls though, because the natural production of testosterone shuts down. It is reversible, at the end of the cycle the balls are essentially "rebooted" and everything returns to normal.
Steroids in moderate dosage (like back in the 70's, when Arnold used to compete) are not unhealthy, if a certain protocol is followed to the letter. There are actually health benefits to be derived from that - increased bone density, healthier joints, etc.
On the flip side, there are studies showing that there might be an increased risk of prostate cancer associated with elevated testosterone levels. The jury is still out.
What is definitely very unhealthy is taking very large dosages of steroids and not follow the protocol. That's what some people did and got into trouble. That's why the steroids were banned. -
