- cusoman, on 12/20/2007, -3/+38Step 1: Avoid people.
See, I can write an obvious article too! - naterpoke, on 12/20/2007, -0/+17my tip:
dont share blunts with your sick friends :( - antifreze, on 12/20/2007, -0/+14Step 1: Don't live in a bubble - We have antibodies for a reason.
Mothers who make kids stay inside and use the gel/spray that kill 99% of germs are borderline retarded. I hope you feel great when you son/daughter is a feeble adult who is always in the hospital
/tangent - oscotto, on 12/20/2007, -2/+16Moreover and more importantly:
1. Exercise Daily
2. Eat Healthy
3. Don't Smoke
4. Get Enough Sleep
5. Keep the alcohol to a minimum
6. Keep processed foods to a minimum
These steps could help your immune system fight a cold virus more than what was suggested in this article. - chrillen, on 12/20/2007, -3/+13Step 1: Stop being a wimp and stop thinking a cold is comparable to AIDS.
- litolist, on 12/20/2007, -0/+10#7 - Don't pick your nose or bite your nails. It's unbelievable how many people I see do that.
- vikki77, on 12/20/2007, -0/+10Another article full of common sense.
- megaloid, on 12/20/2007, -3/+12Yeah, but free food is free food.
- bossm4n, on 12/20/2007, -0/+8Too late...sniff...sniff...cough. Damn I hate getting sick during the holidays.
- dudervision, on 12/20/2007, -1/+9Do your kid's teachers a HUGE favor. If you child is sick, DO NOT SEND THEM TO SCHOOL ANYWAY! I am tired of catching colds because parents would rather turn their children into typhoid Marys (or Myrons) instead of letting them stay home to recover.
- Rassa, on 12/20/2007, -0/+7Speaking of sick, I am sick of clicking an article on digg that sends me to a blog that has another link to the original story. How many blogs must I be forced to read that are just copy and paste jobs of the original? If you are going to hijack other peoples work at least offer some new insight on the story.
- trevorjez, on 12/20/2007, -0/+7pretty sure vitamin c fighting colds is a myth...
http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/news/20050628/vi ... - eternalsnows, on 12/20/2007, -0/+7Wow, stay away from others who are sick! It's clever... but will it work?!
- mikebaldwin67, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6yeay for the obvious. but atleast the headline didn't read
Top 10 cold avoiding body HACKS. - MattB123, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6But if you take it and believe it helps, just believing that will help. Too bad for me I'm a skeptic.
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+5....and of course garlic has the added benefit of repelling vampires and unwanted family members. Olive Garden, here I come!
- Tenlow, on 12/20/2007, -0/+5wash your hands alot and take vitamin c.
If I'd done that i wouldnt have spent this last week feeling like ass. - 232430, on 12/20/2007, -1/+6Way to encourage OCD! Running around after your guests with disinfectant...
- gn0stik, on 12/20/2007, -0/+5Step 1. Post the ***** article before the cold season is half-way over.
- radink360, on 12/20/2007, -0/+5too F'n late.
- crapmatic, on 12/20/2007, -1/+5It amazes me how many people believe colds can be stopped by using grocery store hand disinfectants and hand wipes. Yeah, that bacteriacide on your desk is sure going to help against a common cold VIRUS. A few, fortunately, do contain alcohols and will work.
I do a lot of conferences and shaking & greeting during the winter, and my strategy is to just keep my hands AWAY from my face and wash often with soap after meeting people. - TheKorn2, on 12/20/2007, -0/+410) Wash your hands
20) Goto 10 - Toinsane2b, on 12/20/2007, -1/+5Step 1. Smoke a Nice Binger.. and cough all that nasty out. Step 2. clean the bong
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3I'm gonna assume that your name in no way reflects your place of residence or work, in that case. If 10004 is your zip code, you're on the lowest tip of Manhattan - best of luck avoiding people there.
- GrayV, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3I know you're absolutely right, but I think I'd rather suffer with an occasional cold.
- NYC10004, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3Teachers do have it ruff with the kids and all. There's always one sick little bastard in the class.
- leerayIG88, on 12/20/2007, -2/+5I pick my nose all the time. I haven't gotten sick. It's all about eating the right food.. I'm off to eat some big macs, toodles!
- KC311Man, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3Since when is common sense considered Digg worthy?
- loneraven, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3I just eat fruit and get my vitamin c naturally. Why use supplements when you can get the real thing?
- Lennalf, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3If you take a ton of vitamin C, your urine turns neon yellow. It's awesome. If you take WAAAY too much vitamic C, however, it can build up in your fatty tissues and can cause cancer.
- Lennalf, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3With a glass pipe, you can use the lighter the sanitize the mouthpiece before and/or after you take a hit. Only takes two seconds!
- Mahstah, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2If you pick your nose and eat it, you're actually ingesting bacteria that has been killed by the mucous in your nose. Your system will be better prepared to fight the live bacteria if it already knows the structure of the streptococci or staphylococci it's battling.
- sarahyeah, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2yeah too late, AND I'm takin down everyone with me ::coughs on office handrail...and doorknob...and keyboard::
- lightningrod220, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2... and stay away from toddlers! The little buggers carry germs everywhere.
- crapmatic, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2Easier said than done... the toddlers usually come right up to you.
- pilot3033, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2which is stupid anyway, because if you go around 'disinfecting' everything thing your house, when a cold does it (and it will), you're gonna feel it worse because your immunity system hasn't had a chance to beefs its self up.
That's why its not such a bad thing that kids go and play in dirt and trash.
George Carlin has a bit about this IIRC. - megaloid, on 12/20/2007, -1/+3Garlic, man. Garlic. It's an antioxidant, antibacterial, and antifungal. It's also a powerful expectorant, and based on my experience, it will reduce the duration and severity of a cold. Eating a whole clove of strong garlic is a bit much for some people, so the thing to do is to crush it with a garlic press and mix it with about six ounces of water and a splash of soy sauce. Thusly prepared, the taste is not unpleasant.
The other thing I do for colds is nasal irrigation. Either buy a bottle of spray, or even better, buy a jala neti pot and follow the instructions. The sensation is a little weird the first time, but pouring saline solution through your nose will clean the gunk out. Google "neti pot" and you'll see a lot of anecdotes along with supporting clinical data. I stopped a pretty bad sinus infection within a few days just using the neti pot. - rhabd0mancer, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2That's because you are Captain Obvious.
- baramunchies, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2did you ever notice that poeple involved in the healtcare almost never get sick?
think about it. - Notasheeple, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2Oh oh oh I know..............Let's go get pumped full of thimerosal from the flu shot! That will do it.......then we can give it to our kids so we don't have to actually parent and deal with the sick child. Sign me up, because mercury is good for you. Right? Out of curiosity, how many people know that if you dropped the multi-dose bottles of some vaccines, the spilled chemicals would be toxic waste?
- NYC10004, on 12/20/2007, -1/+3Haven't had a cold since 1995. Just wash your hands and avoid any sick people. Its not rocket science.
- antifreze, on 12/20/2007, -1/+3I agree with you 95%. but for #5 - minimum would be 0, and it's proven that 1 alcoholic beverage for a female and 2 for a male daily is beneficial.
- Niubai, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2Hot as hell at south, going to the beach at the end of work day to appreciate the bikini girls, drink some beer and play football. Take care, cold feet north guys, look out for the flu.
- C0MF0RTABLYnumb, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2EAT HEALTHY/BALANCED AND EXERCISE.
- cespee, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2I was about to write the same thing but didn't feel like getting dugg down today. All I can say is that once I stopped taking my kids to the doctor, they haven't needed to go to the doctor! They stopped getting all these vaccines, and likewise, they stopped getting ear infections, hardcore cold and flu viruses, and strep throat. We got deathly ill during the years that we all took the recommended flu shots. I don't know if there's something in the shots, or all the junk in it attacks the body's immunity. My youngest kid is 12 months old and has never had a vaccine, ear infection, or the flu. I haven't ever used infant Tylenol on her. But I had to go through 5 bottles each with my older vaccinated kids before their first birthdays. I really don't care what brainwashed people have to tell me anymore.
- h4k0r, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2Why is Digg filled with obvious info blogs. Every time I see this stuff I think maybe this time someone has some real insight on the subject, not just what's considered common sense, or general public knowledge. The person who wrote this had to of plagiarized this directly from a pamphlet in their doctors office, and is ok with looking like a d-bag for stating the obvious all the time.
- ProducedRaw, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2Anti-bodies. They don't get sick because their immune system actually has to do something most of the time and is therefore in good shape, unlike all the neurotics living in germ free plastic isolation bubbles.
- TypeEE, on 12/20/2007, -1/+3I found Zicam Cold Remedy for nasal is very effective. As soon I feel uncomfort, put a bit into my nose. The cold symbol will go way. I had avoid getting a cold for at least 4 times this year even my kids and wife are all sick, I am the only one who avoided it.
- inactive, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1My wife WOULD do that!
- cespee, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Wash your hands before eating a buffet-style meal. During the Christmas season, you're going to tons of parties with trays and serving spoons that 20 people have touched. Since it's a cold, dry, sick people season, chances are good that one of those 20 people put cold germs on the spoons. Just bring pocket hand sanitizer to parties.
