- allaboutdatiki, on 02/09/2008, -1/+19a short afternoon nap is one of the sweetest things about working at home
- Herolint, on 02/09/2008, -0/+10When I worked at Novell, they had a few rooms with a cot in each of them where you could go in and lay down for a while if you needed to. The only problem was that you had to call security and let them know you were using the room and then they would come buy in a half-hour or so and bang on the door to wake you up, which was usually just about the time I dosed off.
They also checked the locks frequently and would bang on the door if it was locked but you hadn't called security to let them know you were in there, which, of course, caused me to want to lock the door and then leave just to see how long they'd bang on it (which turns out to be about five minutes and a couple of warnings along the lines of, "I'm coming in so I hope you're dressed..."). - b0rg, on 02/09/2008, -0/+51: Build data center with access control
2. *cough* "storage area" located in quiet, dark room behind two layers of key-card access doors with *short* access lists.
3. Blanket & folding cot stored in an unmarked rack.
4. First rule of nap club, is you don't talk about nap club. - ivankraszl, on 02/09/2008, -0/+4Or you can just get a haircut like this: http://adsoftheworld.com/media/print/cafe_suplicy_ ...
- suxmonkey, on 02/09/2008, -0/+4Hmmm ... 246 days ago.
- redcyren, on 02/09/2008, -0/+4I'm a huge washroom break/nap fan. Put the seat down, put your purse, bag, or coat on your lap, and hug yourself into it. Just make sure you set your cell phone's alarm to ring in a half hour or an hour so you don't sleep in.
- spinchange, on 02/09/2008, -0/+4I prefer the Costanza method: Curled up, under the desk.
- ipfree, on 02/09/2008, -0/+3Ok step 3. CLOSE YOUR EYES. now I can't read the rest of the instructalns. yes iam typing thia wth my eys closed.
- shlebede, on 02/10/2008, -0/+3How the ***** did you remember that?
- EclipseGSX, on 02/09/2008, -0/+3Well I don't know about you, but being in IT affords me access to many places of the building that most people cannot enter (or would have no reason to). If you don't mind the sound of the A/C units and UPS, a smart room is a wonderful place to get some sleep (behind the Sun servers that no one ever checks or even knows what they do). LAN and phone connection closets work well too, and are much quieter.
- lolnix, on 02/09/2008, -0/+2Although this is a nice way to unwind and clear your head, meditation is NOT intended to be a substitute for actual sleep. You're body needs the restorative process of sleep.

Peace. - Ndiggnation, on 02/09/2008, -0/+2A friend of mine had it easier than that. He worked a IT job, much like mine, where he wasn't at his desk all the time. Simple, just go outside to Jeep Cherokee with tinted windows, laydown in the back and sleep for as long as you like, well other than past quittin' time. :)
- hierophantus, on 02/09/2008, -0/+22 hours??? What are you, a communist? 20 minutes at most, you America-hating pansy!
- americangoy, on 02/10/2008, -0/+2Brilliant but us programmers have to sleep with open eyes in front of the monitor. We have to watch out so that.....
the drool from our lips don't give us away :-) - blurplevtx, on 02/09/2008, -0/+2When I worked on a loading dock I had to be in at 23:00 along with about 15 other guys, one guy would always sneak in a nap while sitting on the toilet. It was his snoring that got him fired after the regional VP came in to take a leak.
- martinbowling, on 02/09/2008, -0/+2Yeah power naps are a must even our boss makes sure to take 15 - 20 minutes out of the day for a nap. I haven't always had the luxury of a boss being so lax and I would often sleep on "smoke breaks" out in the car.
- Subvexer, on 02/09/2008, -0/+2In the car, parked off somewhere quiet.
An hour or as little as 20 minutes can do wonders. - Murdats, on 02/09/2008, -1/+3thats right, 2 hours sleep a night only
1 hour commute total, the rest is work, we must be as efficient as possible. - inactive, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1I hear that ... but since most people dont work at home I wonder how people can get away with leaning back for 10-20 minutes unless ur on a break
- PostalBean, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1Meditating is for hippies.
- bxblox, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1laptops are the greatest thing ever invented, i can work in bed, go to sleep, and just sit up and pick up where i left off.... but i think ive melted my thighs
- Louisd11, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1I usually just put my hands on the keyboard and close my eyes, looks like im working. Best method so far. Reply back if you have better ideas.
- Erkan, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1What is it with Digg and napping tips?
- Otto, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1Why not just actually go to a Nap Cafe? They exist. I've seen them in larger cities before.
Here's a story about one at the Mall of America: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9881456 - bragins, on 02/10/2008, -1/+1And enjoy the smell of farts as you drift off into slumberland.
- JHarrison23, on 11/30/2008, -0/+0haha i used to nap at work all the time. its all about timing and posture.
http://www.Total-Cleanse.org - arcticblue, on 02/10/2008, -1/+1My boss brings a sleeping bag and a pillow to work and goes to sleep in the server room during lunch. I just put my head down on the desk and snooze.
- Ruger11mcrdpi, on 02/09/2008, -0/+0While naps are awesome, I think most of us (me included) have jacked-up sleep habits to blame for being tired most of the time. I remember reading a while back that the best sleep you can get is when you go to bed early, and it's in those hours before midnight that your body gets the most actual benefit. Unfortunately I rarely go to bed before midnight. I guess until I do, it's more power naps for me!
- dentalthailand, on 02/11/2008, -0/+0For me I just sit up ad sleep by placing a book in front of me as like it seem that I a reading a book
- wmcarpenter, on 02/09/2008, -0/+0http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k306/NoGoldenSun ...
- jjhuss, on 05/20/2008, -0/+0i use a product called NAP26 which helps me relax enough to fall asleep, and then it wakes me up in 26-minutes so I don't over sleep and wake up tired. Put it right on my iPod, neatest thing to have around when you are really wasted and worn out.
- mastication, on 02/10/2008, -0/+0Somehow I don't think that closing your eyes while you're:
1. Extremely tired and
2. Standing up rocking your baby
is such a great idea.
Impromptu naps are pretty BA though; props for that. - Zidz, on 02/09/2008, -4/+2Its stuff like this which lower our production efficiency!
