I personally have come to know the pressure we, as men, are under to be trim, ripped, and in great shape. Over the years, I've found that I watch every calorie I eat while working out four to five days a week to maintain good form. It's very easy to fall into the trap, especially when one receives so much attention after gaining muscularity and trimming down. The media just makes matters worse, placing so much emphasis on youth and good looks. I'm already planning my pre-holiday dieting strategy. It's sick, and sad, I know.... Many men can hide their disordered eating because it's considered a woman's disease.

For people with eating disorders, it isn't that easy. It's not like being on a diet, where you say "oh, well, I had some extra pie/turkey/whatever yesterday, so I'll just take it easy today and maybe get some more exercise to level it off."
It's not that eating extra is bad. It's that eating *anything* is bad.
Straight from the article:
It’s not about food, it’s about control—a way to manage emotions, events, and whatever is uncertain in their lives.
Food ceases to be seen as sustenance, and consumption has nothing to do with enjoyment.
“I was never really proud of being anorexic,” says Emily, “but one of the sickest parts of the disorder is that you do get a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment from depriving yourself. To eat is to fail, and to starve is to succeed.” - annieellen, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2WORD!
- jaydedrag0n, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2"To eat is to fail, and to starve is to succeed - Emily" yup that seems to be the consensus around here too
