- cactus476, on 10/11/2007, -6/+157But does it calculate that I live in the ghetto and that I'll get shoot if I walk more than ten blocks?
- Inferny, on 10/11/2007, -5/+117mine was 404, and i didn't even had to put in my address!
- lithuin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+71I take my neighborhood for a walk twice a day, but I have to bring a little baggy with me because it tends to leave subdivisions behind, and people get mad when they step in them.
- linkthewarrior, on 10/11/2007, -12/+72This can't be right, 17/100. There's seriously like, nothing around me. The only danger would be if a freaking cow came up and rammed you.
- fpcyber, on 10/11/2007, -1/+40Webserver 0% walkable.
- uncledeercamp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+32Site's toast. Must have been mugged on the sidewalk of a seedy neighborhood.
- EclipseGSX, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28I have pretty much every amenity I can think of within walking distance, but I got a 98/100. Cool idea for a site -- it could definitely be helpful when scoping out apartments in a sprawling metro area.
- CheezIt9109, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22No.
We live right next door to a resevoir, park, tennis courts, in a very affluent and pleasant area.
We moved from downtown, a block form a soup kitchen, with drunks, thugs, and homeless people roaming wherever you walked (They drank the ***** cooking wine I threw out when moving within 5 minutes... Jesus).
The new place gets around the middle. The ***** gets an 85.
More like: What is there to do in your area. - ltkerr0r, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20

A Walkable Neighborhood is… a building block of the walkable community, where neighborhoods are interconnected, but maintain their own distinctive qualities and characteristics. " - PacoDG, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18I had 0 out of the 100. I can't possibly be the only person like this, right? I am not in BFE here, just things are at the least a mile away from my subdivision :(
- Godlesswanderer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18Maybe you're on crack.
- khalua, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15i love how the google ads show ads for pedestrian accident lawyers....
- Dolomite, on 10/11/2007, -8/+23i'm in ur hood, walkin your streetz!
- Nutmegan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Prevention is the only cure.
- FlagrantDrugUse, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13In Soviet Russia, neighborhood walks YOU!
Sorry...I'm getting help for that. - GGzah, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1460/100... something seems off here? The only thing that seemed to be far away was schools (although there are about 4 of them within a 10 minute walk that this seems to have missed?) I actually don't have a car, and live right next to a subway stop, and across from the biggest park in Toronto.
Its a neat concept, but I think they need to work on it a bit. - jcrash, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Tin-Foil hat on the way!
Seriously though, if you are concerned change your street number by a digit or something. - RobynG7, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11It's not about safety, it's about how far it is to walk places. Chances are if there's nothing around you, you would be safe, but you'd have to drive everywhere, hence the low score.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12hehe, you can walk to 2 gas stations
- jamesey, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1294 in Pasadena California. This is probably the only walkable city in LA, but the map is a bit outdated.
- kendawg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10yeah, that's why he's saying he doesn't deserve a 17.
- foomojive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10does crack get injected now?
- timebandit19, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10The denser the population the more tolerant, educated, and exposed to culture, arts, religion etc are the population. The norms are wider so there is more dysfunction such as poverty, violence, bizarre behavior, mental illness as well as more wealth, science, employment, economic development, and culture. Cities are economic engines for states and the nation, yet people in the suburbs and rural areas fail to understand that and think they are living in a protective bubble. Suburbs exist only because of the city near it. Rural areas sell their goods and services to the people in cities.
Urban areas probably vote democratic because there is more acceptance of the need for a safety net because of the "dysfunction" in cities. But every rural and suburban area encourages people with difficulties to go to cities - nice geographic relocation of universal problems. If we would stop fighting classic urban-rural battles we could actually solve some of our problems and move forward in the US. - cloudyprison, on 10/11/2007, -7/+16If there isn't anything around then there isn't anywhere to walk too.
- asaturn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10yo, nice shoes, give 'em to me.
- Akaji, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9My home's a 9, my dorm's a 23 - however, I know Google Maps is missing a few places near both. I wish it was a bit more complete :/
- Atom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I got a 52 out of 100. I love how they have Trailer Parks listed under their 'Park' Section.
- gharding, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Hi there zipcode neighbor! 100% here in 10021!
- Jakesterama, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10I thought this was going to tell you how ghetto you area was and how safe it is to walk around
- FyreGoddess, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Not "what is there to do in your area", but rather "Could you function without a car?" That's really what it's asking.
I got rid of my car almost 8 years ago and since then I have made a point of living in places where it was convenient for me to walk wherever I needed to go. I have been successful in that and this website simply validates the choices that I've made.
You live in an "affluent and pleasant area", but you're probably pretty dependent on your car, as will your children be as they get older.
I challenge you (plural) on this thread to go without your car for a week, even for a weekend. I doubt that many could do it in general and that few could do it well. - mercprog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8site is dead. ARRRGGG!
- tvh2k, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10100% -- NY, NY 10022 baby!
- Jambi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Let me guess, you live in a suburb? Amazing as it sounds, many cities do actually have neighborhoods that fullfill most or all of these criteria.
- chicoer2001, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7The White House has a score of 85
- krnldmp, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11A most walkable neighborhood is one in which you see no people or buildings until you get back home.
- Grjemo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Wow, it is missing so much. Maybe it's because I live in Canada. But since when is Dairy Queen a bar?
- pyry, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6There's plenty of dysfunctional people in the suburbs, people just cover it up better.
- bennyb1anco, on 10/11/2007, -0/+692/100 Go Brooklyn!!!
- DangerMouse9, on 10/11/2007, -7/+12Why? You find bums and crack needles in both.
- brianc900, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5NYC 10003 Walk Score: 100 out of 100.
- asaturn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I bet they ruin the walk-ability of your neighborhood by finding where you live and terrorizing the area.
- takkito, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5hahahahaha the "adult party sotre" is marked under bookstores
I got 26/100, but I dont get it.... Everything is less than a mile away from me....plus my area is one of the safest in the country - Beshitehboss, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5It won't load. Does that mean i can't leave my house?
- mightyzug, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6ROFLMAO!!! extreme irrational paranoia FTL :P
- ingxia, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5yeah, this article came at a good time, looking for an apt right now!
- foolfromhell, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Yeah... guess what http://www.walkscore.com/get-score.shtml?street=taylor+pl&loc=07078&go=Go I dont think I am going to walk a mile to go grocery shopping. I cant carry 6 bags home with just my hands. I would, however, take a bike...
- matt.rubin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5hey hey hey guess what........... ***** you
- tdp301, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I got a 0 too, but I live in the country in Iowa, so all the things listed were not very close. In other words, there is nothing I can walk TO, but it is a pretty place to go on a walk, I guess. I think I deserve at least a 2.
- vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -0/+4You're afraid of fuel prices? Here in the UK we're coughing up nearly £1 for a litre of fuel.
If £1 = $2.04, we pay $2.04 per litre, or, going on 1 US gallon = 3.79 litres, we pay $7.73 per US gallon. - xParker, on 09/12/2008, -0/+4mirrors
