- Import98, on 10/10/2007, -2/+56Exercise and eat right. There is no miracle way to be thin/fit. If there was, I'd be allllll over it.
- AnteChronos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+39I think one of the biggest points from the article is this: "Tolerate hunger and craving".
It's okay to feel hungry. You aren't going to starve, and you won't make any progress without discomfort. Learn to distinguish between "I could kind of go for a bite to eat" and "My stomach is empty and growling", and when the latter happens, have a reasonable portion of food decided on beforehand, eat it at a leisurely pace, and then *stop*.
Too many people don't know when they're actually hungry, and they wolf down their food so quickly that their brain doesn't have time to activate the "I'm not hungry anymore" circuits, so they overeat. - holygram, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28just because you are thin, doesn't mean you are healthy.
- bg4468b, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16They're right - it works! I just tried thinking like a Frenchman and found myself surrendering to my cat.
- picaman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16People need to stop worrying about weight so much, and worry about health. Eat right, do some exercise, and let your body find its natural weight.
And then be happy with it. - Stradenko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Sounds like most of the fatties I know.
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Most skinny people I know are lazy, eat nothing but junk food, and often spend all their free time playing WoW.
- 3drage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I wonder how many digg experts here touting "eat right and exercise" are above obesity level themselves.
- PhantamaroK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Mirror: http://duggmirror.com/health/How_To_Think_Like_a_Thin_Person_and_Lose_Weight/
- holygram, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9One thing people should remember though is that not being fat != being healthy.
- aaronmp2003, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10From the page: "...the idea that the way people perceive their experience influences their emotional, behavioral, and physiological responses..." That is a very true statement, and one that I believe is at the core of true "self help" modalities.
- h3ndrix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6"I'm thinking thin" - Sara Goldfarb
We all saw where they led her. - Punisher2K, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Pics or it didn't happen
- dtreichler, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Shooter McGavin
- Disillusion, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Another problem is how we give ourselves such huge portions of food in this country and feel obligated to finish everything so we don't waste. If you finish your plate today, you're going to be wasting your money on diet products tomorrow.
Speaking of diet products, only fat people drink diet soda. It will help you gain weight, not lose it. (And it tastes like sh*&.) - tcquad, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7"Please explain cognitive therapy in 2 sentences
Cognitive therapy, as developed by my father Aaron Beck, is a comprehensive system of psychotherapy, based on the idea that the way people perceive their experience influences their emotional, behavioral, and physiological responses. Part of what we do is to help people solve the problems they are facing today. We also teach them cognitive and behavioral skills to modify their dysfunctional thinking and actions."
So, I'm supposed to trust my health and well-being to someone who can't count to two? - mstoneburner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5How tall are you? How old are you? I weighed 115 lbs once, too, but if I weighed that much now, I'd be in the hospital.
- iDiigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Exactly that's what it should be all about. People should eat healthy home-made food and also start doing some sport that will make them sweat like boxing or aerobics. I'm sure you can have some fat and have a healthier cardiovascular system than a skinny person.
- dkruta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Another tactic would be to eat smaller meals more frequently - this keeps you from feeling hungry and stops your body from going into starvation mode (which it does after about 4 hours of not eating).
As you said, it's all about being sensible and making healthy choices. - dkruta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's good to know Digg users seem to have the right idea. Balance and health are more important than what you weigh.
- exomni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If you ate nothing but junk food, as long as your caloric intake was under the calories you expend through activity, you would be skinny too.
Of course, you'd also be riddiculously unhealthy, but you would certainly be skinny. - GoatMonkey2112, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3People don't understand that it takes longer to build a pound of muscle than it does to lose a pound of fat. It's not hard to lose a pound of fat in a week, while it's difficult to build a pound of muscle in a month.
- holygram, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"How to Think like a Muscular Person and Gain Weight", by Michael Claisse
Exercise. - PrezKennedy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You must be a guy!
- elargentino, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Exactly, that is the bottom line, but I find that those are only possible with willpower, focus and discipline. I think these are the foundations were you lay your exercises and diet, much like a piramid.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You realize that equates to "nothing," right?
- natmlt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3How about not cleaning your plate! You can leave food behind. If you are full stop eating. There is no reason to continue just because you don't want to be wasteful. Get a dog.
I am 5'7 113lb (and a chick who reads Digg!). - dark2025, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7I'm already as thin as a blade of grass even though I eat like a pig. So now if only they would have an article on "how to think like a muscular person and gain weight"...
- scoot557, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Metabolic rate has a lot to do with it. Ectomorphs(like the OP probably is) burn more calories per day than Endomorphs(heavy-set). Thus they have a hard time gaining weight, muscle or fat. Not all people are made up with the same set of rules.
- breaks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Wanna go grab a burger or 6?
- Stradenko, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6Just because you're healthy, doesn't mean you're not going to die today.
- clickwir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Great, so you just identified the problem. Like 23535632425634636 other people have too. That's not the hard part.
- WarpFox, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I'm thinking Arby's.
- mstoneburner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm very thin. I never eat salads. You can be thin and eat something other than salads.
- AndrewJC, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I've lost 20 pounds in the last couple months from a revolutionary diet called EAT LESS, MOVE AROUND MORE.
I don't know if it's going to just be another fad, though... - PrezKennedy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Wrong again!
- peyotea, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2quality of life is a formula that should be irrelevant of time. balance of health & happiness is good anytime.
- norbiu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No, you failed.
- FreydNot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's a dependent clause for Fred's sake.
- dragon76, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Assuming, like you, everyone who is on digg has the luxury of being a sloth at home. Some people are at work and take a federally mandated 15 minute paid break every now and then to read something for leisure.
- goodoldharris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2dorkino, you should read it more carefully. It's not a statement. Statements need verbs and verbs in dependent clauses don't count.
- dragon76, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think it has a lot to do with our society rushing everything, making every meal seem like it's got to be eaten in 10 seconds. Quick this, fast that. So we opt for the easy choice that consumes less time but is not healthy. I would love to see a healthy fast food restaurant pop up but most of those types of places start making everything unhealthy by drowning it in "sauce" (Baja Fresh) or by getting portion control all wrong (Subway).
- 1337Einstein, on 10/10/2007, -7/+8I do neither of these and weigh 115 pounds.
- GoatMonkey2112, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why does it matter? He's just not thinking of his goal the right way. I'm pretty sure that he doesn't want to get fatter, he wants to build more muscle. Sitting around and doing nothing but eating is only going to make him fat. He needs weight training, and obviously to eat more protein at the same time.
- Sabrielle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1PrezKennedy is correct. No such thing!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3What? The quoted statement contained two verbs, "perceive" and "influences"; the latter being the key verb for this concept.
- 4degrees, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1it is called "self control"
- The_Dude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1As the ice age draws nearer and nearer the fat will rise up and assert dominance! Hail, hail the big-boned!
- Khendroc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm thin and I eat like a pig. It's all about genetics. If your family has a history of diabetes, you watch your sugar (like i should but don't). History of alcoholism = you don't drink. If all your relatives are obese .. WATCH YOUR DIET!
- exomni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The point of being healthy isn't to extend your life, it's to enjoy your life while you have it.
