Protip: Sunburns come from the sun, which comes from being outside, which comes from not being on digg. - VoteGOP, on 06/29/2009, -1/+33Fresh aloe cut from an aloe plant.
/thread - tmyprod, on 06/29/2009, -0/+20Actually, as basement dwelling virgins, we need to know how to heal our nearly translucent skin should we accidentally make contact with indirect sunlight or, heaven forbid, direct sunlight. We are the ones who are really at risk for sunburn. It's like taking the bubble boy out of the bubble.
- tmyprod, on 06/29/2009, -1/+14The best remedy that I, a well respected skin scientist, have found is sandpaper. Just rub the sandpaper over the affected area for about 5 - 10 min. The coarser the better. Use rubbing alcohol to help dull the pain after the treatment.
Also, swap out the triple-sec for bleach to make one killer margarita! - pat0neill, on 06/29/2009, -0/+12i surf on my solar powered laptop in the middle of the mojave
- RiotHeart, on 06/29/2009, -1/+10I myself have many aloe plants. It's nice to have when you need it despite how ugly they look
- legsmccoy, on 06/29/2009, -1/+10ALOE VERA GEL. That's all you need to know.
- jking1226, on 06/29/2009, -0/+8Since when is a "nutritionist" or a "beauty pro" with 2 years of community college considered a "Health Pro".
When I'm sick I sure as ***** don't want to go to my local "beauty pro" for anti-biotics. - p51d007, on 06/29/2009, -0/+7Been using fresh cut aloe, or aloe gel for years.
First sign of sunburn, rub it in every couple hours. The next day, lots of moisture lotion. You feel like a snake shedding skin in about 4-5 days. - inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+7Putting vinegar on your skin actually helps. No kidding.
- LightPhoenix, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6So to sum up this "article," and I use the term loosely, doctors have no clue how to treat sunburn.
- keithwired, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6You mean Vitamin E
Vitamin D is produced in the skin when exposed to sunlight.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_d - spookyttws, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6Hell, Aloe Vera in any form seems to work. Even just using that creepy Banana Boat Neon Green gel has helped sooth and heal a most of my burns.
- David20321, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3You seriously think that sunburn has to do with heat? Sunburn is caused by UV radiation damaging skin cell dna. The only thing you can do is treat the symptoms -- pain and inflammation. Applying cool water can help ease the symptoms a little, but it is much less effective than other basic home remedies (cool milk, aloe vera, etc.)
- spectre_25gt, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3+1 here. It was a big help when I got a major burn in the Caribbean.
- lordmike, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3As Keithwired said, Vitamin E. there have been several clinical studies that have shown that if you put vitamin E topically on exposed areas IMMEDIATELY after sun exposure, you can actually prevent the sunburn that comes 6 hours later.... The studies conclude that the antioxidant activity of the vitamin E mitigates the UV damage to the cells that causes sunburn.. but, you have to put it on immediately after sun exposure or it won't work. Just take some vitamin E capsules, open it up, and rub the oil on your skin. It's actually worked very well for me when I've tried it...
- EffZee, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2Yup, you gotta lube for those pirates.
- superkendall, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2Totally agree, it works perfectly and is very cooling.
- CaviMike, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2We can fantasize! After all, it's what we do best!
- kodekitten, on 06/29/2009, -3/+5From a life of living on the beach, here's the secret to getting rid of the pain from sunburn instantly.
Ready?
NOXEMA.
Yes, I'm serious, and yes it sounds like it would just cause more pain, but trust me. It is unbelievable how well it works. - icedust, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2users from their site came and dugg it up
- warriorscot, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2Well you don't get a PhD from a community college after 2 years.
- neozero497, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2Seriously white people just stay out of the sun or use copious amounts of sunscreen. Do you know that your melanoma chances increase after just one sunburn...significantly. Tans aren't THAT sexy IMHO.
- d03boy, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2You got a burn from Maui and Ibuprofen?
- twiztidsinz, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2Mustard has quite a bit of vinegar in it, so it wouldn't surprise me... just seems kinda messy.
I suppose you could also use relish...
Omnomnom - twiztidsinz, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2If you got a really painful sunburn and want near instant relief: Pickle juice or vinegar... Smells kinda funky, but works.
- Mike17102, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1Sometimes we are forced to brave the bright light of the day ball, and with our vampire like skin we burn quickly. This article could save our lives!
- kirra27, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1Melanoma? That's just fancy talk for sexified.
- whirlingderv, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1I once put the hotel's bedsheets in the freezer, then took them out and wrapped them around my legs... it helped in a pinch until I could go buy aloe/lidocaine gel.
- lmurillo, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1pfft...use a cream to treat second degree burns...I use silver sulfadine and it heals it over night
- pat0neill, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1i soak towels in icewater if i get a bad sunburn and put them on the affected area.... this draws the heat out... works for me. oh yeah and aloe lots of aloe
- d03boy, on 06/29/2009, -1/+2I think mustard works as well.. but thats mostly on like 2nd or 3rd degree burns. I used it once when I burnt myself on a lantern -- it made the pain disappear.
- kinerry, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1try not getting a sunburn on a weekend long scuba dive
jackass - Yawgmoth, on 06/29/2009, -2/+3Sunburn? How do you heal a monitorburn? Sometimes I get those from extended digging sessions
- kinerry, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1I love how you forgot you were a digger
- phatbyte, on 06/29/2009, -1/+2I've a better idea, how about....erm....NOT GETTING A SUNBURN !!! I know it may sound crazy, but hey, i'm just saying....
No, really, it's not good for your health to get sunburns. Use a solar protector right for your tone skin, you may not get so tan, but at least you don't get melanoma either - warriorscot, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1I've always thought they looked quite good as long as you have a good specimen before they go all droopy.
- d03boy, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1Ok Billy Mays
- xquizit, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1dugg for thumbnail
- kinerry, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1yep, the old school white version put on right after will heal even the worst sunburn. so long as it's done in time.
- Mike17102, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1I cant begin to describe how wrong that is.
The "heat" is from the inflamed skin itself. It doesnt spread. Like anything else that gets red and swollen, its also warm to the touch. Its just from your blood flowing to the area at an increased rate. Keeping it cool makes it feel better, but its not "sucking out the burn" or any other nonsense.
Keeping it cool right after the burn prevent some of the inflamation so the resulting burn is a little less severe. Its the same idea as running your hand under cold water after touching a hot pan, it just prevents swelling. - Cheezian, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1Why would you when you don't have to anymore.
And 5000 years ago they had their own remedies. - DiggzDE, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1I just got sunburnt a little over the weekend. That night I picked up some "Pure Aloe Vera" Sensitive Skin Gel from CVS for 3 bucks. It is now a healthy coloring: no red, no pain, no peeling. I'm happy.
- EnglishmanInAu, on 06/29/2009, -3/+3Typical medical sound bites, a load of half-truths. It's called sunburn because it's a burn and needs to be treated like one else the damage spreads to neighbouring cells. If you cover it in moisturiser you're trapping the heat instead of letting it escape which will increase cell damage. Simple first aid is apply cold water to remove the heat then once the redness is gone you can treat with moisturisers.
- Vesuvias, on 06/29/2009, -1/+1Go away.
- osdihg, on 06/29/2009, -0/+0she wont get sunburned if she STAYS IN THE DAMN KITCHEN!!!
- CoCreateHealth, on 07/12/2009, -0/+0Always go for the nearest aloe vera, though recent studies are suggesting the hidden wonders of coffee and milkweed in giving your skin the best protection it can have against skin damages from the sun's ray.
- 7Labs, on 06/29/2009, -0/+0I think and as per new researches,Vitamin D not coming from sunburn.Do you read it anywhere.
