- seala, on 10/05/2009, -12/+132"Also, universal healthcare is gonna pull our expectancy down. "
thats why countries with universal healthcare have lower life expectancies than you Oh wait... Australia, New Zealand Canada UK Sweden, Switzerland, Italy and over 40 other countries have people with a longer life expectancy than the USA
"72 years is much better then other countries"
The BEST of America doesnt even rate in the top 20 as
the top 20 countries have rates of over 80 years
72 puts you alongside
# 119 Colombia: 72.54 years 2008
# 120 Armenia: 72.4 years 2008
# 121 Korea, North: 72.2 years 2008
# 122 Romania: 72.18 years 2008

Universal healthcare = a healthier longer lived population - Ghostalker, on 10/06/2009, -2/+112Judging by the amount of senior's driving slow in the fast lane, I'd say we're living too long as it is.
- pstroll, on 10/06/2009, -25/+111Alabama is obviously a 3rd world country. Why doesn't America just give it to China in order to reduce the national debt?
- indyGuy, on 10/06/2009, -0/+79Dumb question, but I've always wondered. When they say "life expectancy is now...", is that for the babies born now, or everyone, or...?
- digitalArtform, on 10/06/2009, -0/+61Life Expectancy at 65:
As people age, their life expectancy actually increases. Each year you live means that you have survived all sorts of potential causes of death. If you were born in 1942, your life expectancy at birth was about 68 years. But the good news is that you didn't die of infectious diseases when young, car accidents, or anything else. The average 65-year-old today can expect to live another 18.4 years. So your life expectancy now is not the same as it was at your birth. It is 5.9 years longer than the current life expectancy figure (which is for people born in 2006) or 83.4 years.
http://longevity.about.com/od/longevity101/p/life_ ... - rajun50, on 10/06/2009, -23/+83Since I'm from Alabama and your comment is based largely (if not solely) upon stereotype, ***** you.
- happyseamonster, on 10/06/2009, -2/+55They don't want it.
- york2600, on 10/06/2009, -9/+58But a valid stereotype:
Your per capita income is $18,000
Your high school dropout rate is toped only by Mississippi (25% drop out)
Your obesity rate is only topped by Mississippi (30%!)
Give it to China. No loss - preppypoof, on 10/05/2009, -0/+49the "probability of death" chart was by far the most interesting part of that article. I'm 22, and judging by the author's comment, I have about a 1 in 1000 chance that I will die this year. I'm not quite sure how to feel about that.
- wheresmclean, on 10/05/2009, -3/+47His picture is a confederate flag. Why bother even talking to him?
Sorry, I'm too quick to judge, aren't I? It's about "states rights," isn't it? /s - yoshi8710, on 10/06/2009, -7/+45I dugg you up because I thought it was funny.
Even though I don't agree with you. - akchrs, on 10/06/2009, -36/+72I'd rather die early than live in a liberal state.
- Shiftgood, on 10/06/2009, -17/+50And have those liberal states support your red state with their taxes.
- chaos7, on 10/06/2009, -32/+62republican states don't look too good
- nmanguy, on 10/06/2009, -0/+30Dude, imagine a new government program: " Tickets for transients". All the homeless get carted off to one of the medium islands of Hawaii, and get to live in a tropical paradise, harvesting coconuts and pineapples, making tree houses swinging in hammocks, having fight clubs, spear fishing and living in wooden huts they make with their own sweat.
Holy crap, that sounds good. - wheresmclean, on 10/05/2009, -2/+31The homeless population in Hawai'i (specifically Honolulu) is huge. Many homeless just get enough money for a one way ticket an then that's it.
http://www.examiner.com/x-18673-Honolulu-Homelessn ... - grnicon, on 10/06/2009, -4/+31@norman619,
I'm sorry but the Confederate flag no longer represents independence from the Union and self-reliance, as it may have been at one point in time. It has been co-opted as a sort of secret handshake amongst southern bigots.
It's time to find a new symbol and start a new heritage. You don't find too many Americans still with loyalties to the British crown and British heritage. - drastik21, on 10/06/2009, -0/+23Haven't you played Oregon Trail? It's pretty hard to be an Oregonian when your family is always dying of dysentery.
- insertAliasHere, on 10/06/2009, -0/+23It sounds like he's making a good argument to give away Mississippi first.
- pintomp3, on 10/06/2009, -1/+23The Nazi flag has other meanings besides the one you were trained to assume. I don't get why conservatives get so upset by it when I don't. I'm half Jewish and half gypsy. Ignoring your past and only acknowledging the negative connotations in a symbol only shows extreme ignorance. It's sad.
- inactive, on 10/06/2009, -2/+22Um that isn't the Confederate Flag, that's the Battle flag of the Confederate Army, it's a symbol of rebellion and violence, fly the stars and bars if you want to fly the CSA national/heritage flag, hypocrite.
Do you see me flying NY state militia regimental flags over my house? NO. - rchargel, on 10/06/2009, -2/+21You cant cut of our national schlong.
- acwoo, on 10/06/2009, -0/+19This map should be presented with a finer grid. Congressional Districts? Counties? There are over 30 Million people in California so an average isn't too meaningful without further statistical information.
- seala, on 10/06/2009, -0/+19The 72 rate which TheRealAmerican thought was pretty good, is of course the Lowest American rate -Washington DC which puts DC along side North Korea etc. I see he is from Alabama -
Life Expectancy: 74.4 years
State ranking: 48
That's on par with Sri Lanka and Lithuania.
Australia, NZ, Canada, all over 80 years
Universal healthcare = a healthier longer lived population - pstroll, on 10/06/2009, -7/+23I've been to Alabama. Stayed in Birmingham for a week. I can honestly say that Ohio is much, much, much, much worse.
- sulthernao, on 10/06/2009, -1/+17According to Bill Clinton, the US has the highest life expectancy once you hit 65. In my opinion, some of that has to be accredited to Medicare kicking in.
- seala, on 10/06/2009, -1/+17@ Brainrazer: I use Nationmaster statistics. Why do you think the Wikipedia stats are more accurate?
@MercenarySlick
The US is 77% European, NZ is 69% so we have way more minorities than you do and they too have health problems that impact on the statistics. If you only looked at white people in NZ they also have a life expectancy similar to Japans for about half of what your government spends per capita on health
And NO ONE has ever gone bankrupt getting the health care they need. - Bisquick, on 10/06/2009, -3/+18Washington, D.C. is just about as Blue as you can get if you're looking at Presidential elections.
- achansen121, on 10/06/2009, -1/+15"Saying that universal healthcare results in that higher life expectancy is absurd."
Now that's just straight up retarded. Like the idea or not, spending money to fix the easy to fix problems that the uninsured have will increase average life expectancy. - Dasliberdan, on 10/06/2009, -1/+15hence the word - mostly!
- TVarmy, on 10/06/2009, -0/+13You forgot your /s tag, right?
- splorpdotorg, on 10/06/2009, -3/+15@pstroll
Lived in Ohio, visited Alabama, live in California. Depends where you are in Ohio and California how bad it is. Alabama, doesn't seem to matter where you are. - buddahmonk, on 10/06/2009, -0/+12Aww, comon Oregon get with the program.
- Dasliberdan, on 10/06/2009, -17/+28Just me or are they mostly blue states? Coincidence?
- banderwocky, on 10/06/2009, -6/+17Our life expectancy is longer in Canada. In part, thanks to our Universal Healthcare.
- StareUpAtTheSun, on 10/06/2009, -0/+11I think that this says more about the obesity rates in our nation then it does about the health care issue. For example, the southeast was the lowest scoring states and they have the highest obesity rates. The number one cause of death is heart disease so it isn't really a hard connection to make.
- BoutDemCanes91, on 10/06/2009, -8/+19***** it, just give them the whole South. Even take my state of Florida too, it's like a back-ass underdeveloped nation over here anyways....
- darkciti2, on 10/06/2009, -3/+14True, but ALL of the "liburul" bastions are represented as having life expectancies of 78 - 81. Meanwhile ALL of the 4 lowest life expectancies are Southern Republican states.
- aenemacanal, on 10/06/2009, -2/+12Hi America,
We still exist! (Obscurely though...)
Love,
NH
PS. We have lowest crime rate! And granite!
PPS. See you next election! - inactive, on 10/06/2009, -0/+10There was nothing positive about the CSA flag -- the nation literally has no heritage or national heroes besides military heroes and a white supremacist vice president and a presidential assassain. Great job CSA.
- nj10ii, on 10/06/2009, -0/+10You should feel "Mortal". Welcome home.
- bryan879, on 10/06/2009, -1/+11Additionally, States that voted Wiccan had a higher chance of having cars with a slightly bluer tint to them than ones that didn't.
- BookaShade, on 10/06/2009, -1/+10Go Colorado!!
- evilesttoast, on 10/06/2009, -2/+11Seeing how I'd just have higher taxes for services I don't even use and deal with gun bans, etc., I'm glad I dont.
- Weslon, on 10/06/2009, -0/+8Hooray for living in Mississippi. last/lowest/***** at everything.... except for teen pregnancy.
- thethunderbird, on 10/06/2009, -0/+8Actually... it's not that far off the truth. We're from Canada and when we went to Hawaii, we happened to have a chat with the Police chief in Honolulu. He told us that they were having a problem with Northern California and Oregon offering their "problem" homeless a choice between being charged and a cheapo one way fare to Honolulu. It was an obvious choice for the homeless people and for the police, as it cost less to buy them the plane ticket than deal with them.
- SkittlesUSA, on 10/06/2009, -5/+13You want other relevant information?
On that map there are 2 states on the verge of failure: California and Michigan. 2 of 2 voted Democrat.
See, I can do it too. - RubyTuesday, on 10/06/2009, -0/+7I do so love it when someone tries to bolster their loosing argument with some "of course I will be buried" or "of course you will be buried" comment. Give it up, it's petulant and whiney and implies that if people don't agree with you it is just because they aren't being fair to you, are stupid or "don't get it" - denying of course that you could be wrong or that they could just validly disagree with you.
- Daxx22, on 10/06/2009, -1/+8Make it a 2 for 1 deal!
- darklights, on 10/06/2009, -6/+13b b b but... thats what those dang liberals WANT!!!
What a dilema! -
