- WestDC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24This is ridiculous. An hour of exercise daily probably cuts the risk of ANY disease EVER occuring!
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Please don't follow that man's request. :-(
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Makes sense. Get poop cancer by sitting on your fat ass all day.
- drychean, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I guess you could say that this is proof that its really a bad idea in more ways than one to live a sedentary lifestyle. Get out and get some exercise!
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Goatse.cx comes to mind.
- licoricewhip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What will you do with the other 58 minutes and 30 seconds?
- rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attack, sleep disorders, obesity, nothing of that ever convinced me of doing exercises.
But bowel cancer? Hell, I'll start running this very evening. - stonebear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It makes sense. Colon cancer is caused by toxic byproducts of digestion remaining in the colon too long. Peristalsis is enhanced by overall fitness, reducing the toxicity of the colon. Eating enough fibrous food is not mentioned in the article, but it is even more important to effective peristalsis than exercising.
- SteelChicken, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4the red meat thing is bogus, so overhyped.
- clyde2801, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dont you mean latin america?
- stonebear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He’s right about the coffee enema. It dilates the portal vein which carries blood from the colon to the liver, and can result in a short term “cleansing” of the colon. Don’t do it if you have portal hypertension, or ascites though. A fat pipe to a liver which can’t handle the extra load is pointless, and may even be harmful.
- kms007, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Exercise is important - as is eliminating red meat from one's diet. Colon cancer studies have shown that the vast majority of its victim's diet consisted mainly of red meat. Stick with chicken and fish and veggies instead.
- alphamerik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I prefer a latte enema.
- All4not, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Exercise = healthier life than no exercise... who needs a study for that?
Great, how about they spend millions on figuring out how to maximize your exercise/workout routine than figuring out if it will help you. - sark666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if there is a magic amount of time though. I started jogging a little while back, and at first I couldn't manage 20 minutes straight, so I did 1 min jog, 1 min walk, until 20 minutes became easy.
Then I thought do I just increasing the time as it gets easier? Instead I decided to increase the intensity. I read about HIT (high intensity training) and now combine sprints with my jog. So I still only do 20 minutes, but at a much higher intensity. I've read the magic number in some articles is to get the heart rate up for 20 minutues a day, some say 30. Never read an hour though.
I do wieghts one day (40 minutes entire body) and jog the next for 20, I do that for 6 days and give my body one day rest. That works out to 3 hours a week. Pretty much anyone should be able to incorporate this into their lifestyles. - devaspark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does masterbation count?
- macatak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2its rubbish. its going to be the case that people who do an hour of exercise overeat less, and what they do eat will be healthier. cause and effect baby.
- spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Exercise is good for you? Who'da thunk it
- cleansecolon, on 07/24/2008, -0/+0exercise and diet: foolproof ways of getting fit and healthy.
- Rickard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2He has a point. Who has an hour to spare every day? If I exercised an hour every day, I'd get 4 hours of sleep instead of 5.
People who exercise an hour a day obviously don't work enough. Or wait... - ZippidyDoo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Pics or it doesn't happen?
- 0zymandias, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Meh - when they make these things faster than punch cards give me a call.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3In Soviet Russia, bowels exercise YOU!
- meeee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2This is great, finally some motivation for cleaning my house!
- nattybohman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3An hour a day! Who has a spare hour a day?
If I had the spare time I'd be exercising already and not for the sole benefit of avoiding bowel cancer. - Thud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Not many details on the study... but correllation != causation
Your typical person who averages an hour a day of exercise probably also eats a healthier diet vs. the potato-chip munching couch potato. And diet is more likely the important factor here. - Leffe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Hours of bowel cutting exercises known treatment.
- manifestdata, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1And in other obvious news: The best way to avoid cancer is to not get cancer.
