- tehWyman, on 08/19/2009, -3/+69Public showers? These people really like to get it on, don't they?
- laroja, on 10/10/2007, -6/+67This is great news. This needs to happen in every country on Earth though.
- kenvsryu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+53I'd rather have free wifi - at least that one I can use. :(
- dgblackout, on 10/10/2007, -3/+36if they did this back in the 80's i wouldn't have been born, so i don't know how i feel about this
- ropers, on 10/10/2007, -2/+27If you could tell apart China and Japan your comment would even be funny.
- secretwhistle, on 10/10/2007, -5/+29Well, after their recent manufacturing snafus, I'd think twice before slipping into the provided "protection."
- Raian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22Now imagine a corrupt government that goes to great efforts to hide this fact from the world... then you have reality.
- johnpaul191, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16better to have them in too many places then not enough?
they used to have them in the bathrooms in the student center at the university i went to. obviously nobody is having sex there. unfortunately they had to remove them because there is/was a crazy christian right-wing group that would not stop destroying the dispensers and writing messages about how Jesus does not approve. i wish i had taken some pictures of what they did to those metal boxes, and what they wrote on the walls. REALLY odd. - jmpeagle, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19are they used condoms? Why are none of them wrapped up in the picture?
- anteyekon4myst, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Invest in latex now.
- sineyopitty, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16This is a hell of a lot better than a bible in your room!
- Unclickable, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11There is an alternative way to fight AIDS
http://yuxt.com/kisa/Best_condom_ads - eean, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Of course at my geeky college they turned a condom dispenser into a floppy disk dispenser (and now it has CD-R's I think).
- ddxChrist, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14They had to do this. Imagine if AIDS spread into the general population of China, where the population is massive, skewed towards males, and generally uneducated about sexual health. It would be a disaster.
- carpespasm, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12sounds like a decent idea to me. chances are I'd get much more use out of a rubber if i'm in a hotel than a mint on the pillow
- AlexLand, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9You and the rest of digg's commenting body.
- spyd3rweb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9cheap chinese made condoms, yeah id really trust those
- SammyJr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7What's wrong with the government attempting to implent a public health measure?
- netkid91, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9*****, it can HELP prevent it, it's no guarantee either....
- beldark, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Do you cry about everything?
- johnpaul191, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6maybe they want to keep it that way? look back at archival footage and see how the US Government denied it even existed here for a long time. that's how it became such a mess.
that same policy of denial is what scares some people about things like bird flu or mad cow one day blowing up. - Saad85, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5dude.. you need to get laid.
- jpell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The condom is the best preventative measure a person could possibly take against getting an STD short of abstinence. Most condom packages I have seen say that they DO protect against STDs. The pill, or other forms of birth control, cannot say the same.
- BryanJK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It still decreases the risk, and also protects against other things.
- rlahiff, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6well played sir.
- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4dude, condoms are not that expensive, it's like complaining about how high your tuition is because they give away condoms at the health center. i doubt it's any more expensive than the free ice.
- JavertHolmes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4If you want to get an idea of what the level of ignorance is in China's rural regions about AIDS, check out "The Blood of Yingzhou District" which won an Academy Award for short documentary. It's a heartbreaking level of ignorance, where AIDS-infected children who contracted it via birth from their parents are basically living in sheds in order not to infect other family members. Kids are forbidden to play with them either. It documents the state of things as well as volunteers who visit these villages and attempt to educate the populace.
This move is definitely a step in the right direction. I only hope more people there can learn how to prevent AIDS, how it passes, etc. - BarneyF, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The condoms are not there specifically for the benefit of the people who use them - although, of course it does help them. There is no moral preaching angle on this.
They are there to prevent the spread of the disease. - eean, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Someone has been paying attention in their sex education class under the Bush administration.
- JesperL, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7I'd think that this might also be an attempt to stem the birth rate in China, no?
- pegisys, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I'm sure people stealing towels will probably cost the hotel more then a few boxes of condoms every year
or maybe hotels could just raise the already insanely high mini bar prices - Rosamilia, on 10/10/2007, -7/+11I have no trouble making the separation between China and Japan.
my problem was recalling which country originated tentacle porn...Which your mind evidently has on speed dial - NecroSexy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Every country? Not when Catholics in Africa are preaching that using condoms is a sin.
- aburd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3From what I understand, prostitution in Chinese hotels is pretty common. This sounds like a really smart move for them.
- netkid91, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7No need to pay for your own when you have that one night stand eh?
/sarcasm - dagnome1984, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I think I would trust the word of the manufacture over what some layman says or government education for that matter.
- LeadHead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3To fight the spread of aids and children.
I figure if they don't give out condoms, we're gona have to collonate space a lot sooner. - secleinteer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Read the caption - they're for an AIDS awareness display.
- oojamaflip2006, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I wouldn't be surprised if this was part of China's 2008 'clean up Chinas image for the Olympics' gambit. Notwithstanding its public relations value, it may well provide health benefits to ordinary Chinese people and foreign visitors, so for this I applaud it.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3To save money, they wash them after use.
- SammyJr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Yeah, cuz condoms are going to break the bank. **rolls eyes at the fundie**
- Raian, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Hasn't the Chinese government always proclaimed AIDS wasn't a problem in China.... and didn't they just ban an AIDS rights committee? Gotta love those annoying, corrupt, bastards.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well the reason why there are public showers is that China is still mostly poor. I mean many in the middle class still live in apartments that have communal bathrooms and showers. They also offer a degree of privacy so, yes people do get it on there.
Why not at home? Most families in China live together for a long time. Its not uncommon for kids or grandparents to never move out. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thank you. I don't know why someone dugg you down.
- Sigurdhsson, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3>> 'Asians are ***** crazy' has to be one of the stupidest generalisations I've ever heard.
No, they are all the same.
>> First off, Manga is generally Japanese and we're talking about China.
I know that, see above (They are all the same)
>> Secondly, Manga is fantasy, not a representation of what really happens in whatever part of Asia you assume it comes from.
Well duh, but they make it up, don't they?
>> Thirdly, Asia consists of many different countries each with widely varying cultures and histories.
Duh again, cease your ignorant assumptions about my intelligence and knowledge.
>> What is acceptable in one country may be expressly forbidden or frowned upon in another.
May be, but that's rarely the case.
>> Kindly cease your ignorant jackassery. Thanks.
No, it's a free country (at least where I live) so I can do whatever I want. - StingingNettle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Are you sure its not to fight against the spread of babies?
- Ellipsys, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Nothing is 100% safe if you'd like to still have sex with someone besides yourself. HIV and many other STDs are noticeably impeded by condoms. You're probably thinking of HPV or Herpes, which condoms help with, but only minimally as they can typically infect skin that's not covered by condoms.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Why is Digg so biased against China?
- macbwizard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think this is the real reason, AIDs is minute compared to the number of births in China.
- acetv, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You know, I heard Chinese people are really good at math, is that true?!
