- hiPpymIck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19its super toxic..
"It is possibly the most acutely toxic substance known, with a median lethal dose of about 1 ng/kg[1], meaning that a few hundred grams could theoretically kill every human on earth (for perspective, the rat poison strychnine, often described as highly toxic, has an LD50 of 1,000,000 ng/kg, and it would take fourhundred tons to kill every human)."

- i hadnt realized it was the botox wrinkle injection - nymphetamine, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Oh man, the title had me a little worried since I went to Wienerschnitzel today.
- deadowl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12While some rich people actually get injections of this disease, if that ***** got into our water supply, we'd really be screwed.
- johnn11238, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Yet another reason not to eat "hot dog chili sauce". Whatever the ***** that is...
- johnnynack, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9i heard it was also linked with a greater epidemic...obesity
- wattznext, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Was anyone else expecting him to break out into the fresh Prince theme song?
- drmessano, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I have suffered due to this recall already.
I was digging in my pantry looking for cans of the Castleberry's Chili W/Beans, which I found listed on their website on the recall page. I always keep a few cans on hand, so I looked to see if I had any more than the one in hand tucked away behind some other cans. As I was digging, I knocked a can of Enchilada sauce off the shelf and into a case diet root beer below, causing one of the cans to explode all over my pantry. I spent two hours cleaning up my pantry after this.
No, I am not making this up.. I nearly died from the irony. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8nice way to harvest some good quality clostridium botulinum stains.
anyways botulinum toxin is pretty hardcore.. the biological functions for its evolution is a mystery to me. possibly something like poisoning its host, scavengers of carrion etc to catalyze its spore production perhaps.. who knows.. - keysersoze1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Sadly, i ate some castlebury's chili sauce Tuesday night. Now I'm gonna be freaking out for the next week. Hope i nuked it hot enough.
- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I was pretty floored when I saw this story a few days ago. Someone ***** up in a big way.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7and botulism is linked to paralysis which is linked to muscle function which is linked to human movement which is linked to people doing things which is linked to terrorism.
OMG!1 - moofer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Your caps lock key is on.
- redfox2600, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Look on the bright side people you just got a free can of Botox.
- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I wonder if Duke had something to do with this?
http://www.bushbeans.com/jaynduke/ads.php - ominpotent123, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Wait...so hot dog chili sauce isn't good for you? Well, there goes my diet out the window...
- OpenFuture, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4There is going to be a black market for the contaminated chili sauce to be repackaged as "enhanced" Botox.
- ramd3z, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Great, now the boss doesn't want to go to Yocco's today for lunch....
- AlienHairball, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Man, I was confused for a bit there because I could have sworn the title said "Hot Dog Chili Sauce Linked to Boredom". I think my brain nearly seized up trying to make sense of that. ;)
- moofer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Parents just don't understand...
- Paperthin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3hey, not from China!
- wattznext, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3yeah but why would you want to?
- LandStander, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Gorramit! I had my monthly hot dog chili sauce festival last night!
- DCMacHead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2In addition to eating lips, ears and buttholes, add botulism to the list of reasons not to eat hot dogs.
- winmywii, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"first cases of botulism in commercially canned foods in decades".
Weren't black olives just pulled from shelfs a few months ago for the same reason?? - HerrSchnuff, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2yummy
- naonao, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You'd feel it by now if you had botulism. After a few bites you'd be feeling sick usually.
- dvddesign, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2NOT MY PRECIOUS CHILI! NO!!!!!!
... Wait, Wolf brand chili isn't affected. nm. - Kenzan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2My Grandslam was supposed to come with botulism.
- moofer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Hope everything comes out alright.
- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's uh...hmmm...chili sauce you put on hot dogs.
- MillionsLivio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I actually have about four cans of Castleberry's in my pantry right now. I eat very well and healthy, but my one food vice are chili dogs. I recently switched to Gold Star chili dog sauce, but that was just weeks ago. I also have gotten a few friends to buy Castleberry chili dog sauce and they are now addicted to it so I'll have to get them to stop. Someone dropped the ball big time.
- mahdaeng, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Why do people still eat hot dogs anyway?
- jpop, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Not sure. Why don't you give it a try and let us know the results?
- ScottoGato, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1bochoolizm has good flavur.
- dewfish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I had a burger and fries at Wienerschnitzel once, and it was nasty. Are the dogs any better?
- Twinked, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2You forgot to blame Bush.
- astrotrain, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Hot Dogs and Sushi are not my kind... please deposit another dime... your three minutes is up.
- aserer511, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2botulism in 2007
- derkles, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What am I going to rub all over my body tonight instead of botu-chili?
- Urusai, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Actually, blame Reagan for shutting down the regulatory agencies like the USDA. Honestly, all corporations do nowadays is fax in a report once a year detailing how great they are doing. Prior to Reagan, there was no salmonella and you could actually eat raw eggs without dying.
- havesometea, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Morris Day unavailable for comment.
- PATSCRU, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1nOTHING is nasty at der weinerschnitzel. I can't get enough of their chili. They have a 3 for $3.33 deal here that includes one chili cheeseburger, one chili dog, and on chili cheese fries (ok the fries aren't the greatest, but 2 out 3 ain't bad!)
- theholycow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I have a Castleberry's Hot Dog Chili Sauce 10 oz can that's a few months out of the recall - its "best by" date is Jan 29 2009. I think I'll wait to see if they expand the recall...
- bcos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I eat that stuff
:( - theholycow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The WalMart brand is pretty good, too.
- adamk0310, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yay for not eating spicy foods!
- Brhine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm with you. I once purchased 26 cans of castleberrys from the wall'o'savings at Cub. I had recently moved and never saw it in any stores except for that day. So I stocked up. I got some looks, but I think I had chili sauce for the next year or so. mmmm. I'm kind of glad I haven't had any for the past couple months.

- JB449, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I know honey can contain botulism spores, and your not supposed to give honey to infants because the spores can germinate in their gut and make them sick. However, as adults, our mature digestive system destroys the spores before you get full blown clostridium botulinum. I thought botulism was only a problem for infants, I guess I was wrong. I hadn't thought about the possibility of being directly exposed to the bacteria.
- niardica, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1uhm.. just throw it away!
