- mmittimm, on 01/21/2009, -3/+53What's wrong with oily fish, onions, mushrooms, broccoli, etc? I think the real story here is that brits don't like tasty food.
- elliotys, on 01/21/2009, -13/+34But have they started brushing their teeth yet?
- inactive, on 01/21/2009, -1/+22I loved broccoli as a kid and still do. Am I the only one?
- ScottMitchell, on 01/21/2009, -1/+22Tell me about it. FTA:
"More than half of Britons said they would never eat Japanese sushi, while 30 per cent avoid avocados. "
How could someone not like avocados? It is like butter - tasty, rich, smooth - only healthier. - gianttoolbox11, on 01/21/2009, -2/+17Stupid Britons. Why eat something healthy when you can eat unhealthy ***** like us Americans and be a bunch of fat asses?
- UnarmedHippo, on 01/21/2009, -0/+12i actually prefer a spinach salad rather than lettuce. i actually feel like i'm eating a plant and not a crunchy white thing
- AndyCrapp, on 01/21/2009, -0/+10When you have little money ...you eat whats available
Hi from New Zealand - fuxxx, on 01/21/2009, -1/+10Actually I think it's a fantastic way to diet.
Force yourself to eat food that you dislike. Not absolutely hate, but just dislike.
These kinds of foods will have nutrients that you're lacking from eating only food that you like, and it makes eating a horrible experience, making you less willing to stuff yourself at any given moment. - casuallyevil, on 01/21/2009, -1/+10Or perhaps because it was a study of postmenopausal women, the only experimental variable was fat intake, and the only thing they tested for that makes any sense (getting fatter) proved "Women in the intervention group lost weight in the first year (mean of 2.2 kg, P<.001) and maintained lower weight than control women during an average 7.5 years of follow-up." YIKES! Women that ate less fat maintained a lower weight than those that didn't? Those capitalist media bastards are suppressing RESEARCH!!
#1, I wish you had thought to read the articles you linked to, #2, I'm insulted that you thought a link to a source would satisfy my curiosity sufficiently that I wouldn't click on it, and #3, I'm embarrassed that I gave you the 30 seconds of my time to follow up despite the overwhelming evidence of idiocy present in the first six paragraphs. - barfnugget, on 01/21/2009, -0/+9How is this news? I'm sure everyone has eaten something they don't like because it's healthy.
- UnarmedHippo, on 01/21/2009, -1/+9and hello to you from america
- archer104, on 01/21/2009, -1/+9avocados are just about my favorite food. Sandwiches, salads, tacos, and burgers all of a sudden become fun and tasty.
- archer104, on 01/21/2009, -0/+8You're the first person I have ever heard say that spinach is bad for you.
- inactive, on 01/21/2009, -2/+9i like to eat most kinds of vegetables.
- inactive, on 01/21/2009, -0/+7'lets go out for american food!'
'lol' - TVarmy, on 01/21/2009, -1/+8Have they never had guacamole? Avocado is the most dairy-like non-dairy thing on the planet, and it tastes awesome. Plus, it's got unsaturated fat, so it's likely healthy, but it doesn't need to be healthy because it tastes so good.
Maybe they're eating it plain. Salt it and use it like a condiment (a good ripe one is practically a green, healthy margarine spread that isn't leathal), slice it and use it in sandwiches, make it into dips, or try making a dessert with it (really). - inactive, on 01/21/2009, -0/+7No, we're not even close....
- aufte, on 01/21/2009, -1/+8Apparently Brits didn't until lately.
- inactive, on 01/21/2009, -1/+7the sense of smug I get from eating healthy yet unsavory foods is well worth it.
- inactive, on 01/21/2009, -1/+7I enjoy eating most of the 'hated' foods, and so do most of the 'health concious' people I know. Weird how it doesn't grow on them after time. If they really eat it on a consistent basis, then they will psychologically adapt to accept them.
- JustJoe4Life, on 01/21/2009, -2/+8That explains steak and kidney pie.
- darklights, on 01/21/2009, -0/+6Not just European - there are plenty of kings & queens in Asia & Africa. Contrary to what you probably believe, a modern monarchy doesnt sit around raising taxes and chopping off subjects heads - they are pretty much ambassadors for their country.
- darklights, on 01/21/2009, -1/+7Its piss filters. And you should, because its great!
- inactive, on 01/21/2009, -5/+11I've also eaten food I hate while in Brittain.
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -3/+8Eating things you cannot stomach kinda defeats the purpose :p
- inactive, on 01/21/2009, -1/+6and yet they eat marmite
- pradaaddict, on 01/21/2009, -3/+8Its all in how you prepare it. If those "health conscious" Brits prepare their vegetables like my English Grandparents and everyone else from England/Scotland they probably boil everything so much it removes every last bit of flavour.
- DavidTurnbull, on 01/21/2009, -0/+5Can't they find healthy food that they do like...?
There are TONS of foods I hate to eat. I'm incredibly fussy. But I still get plenty of fruits & vegetables etc. - OhROFL, on 01/21/2009, -0/+5Or makes you relapse into food that is deliciously unhealthy.
- username7410, on 01/21/2009, -2/+7Eating to live, not living to eat!? Maybe Americans would be such lard asses if we followed suit.
- hazello, on 01/21/2009, -1/+6It's better than stomaching things you cannot eat.
- adverpart, on 01/21/2009, -1/+6I'll take 50 wonderful years over 90 mediocre years.
- ellecon, on 01/21/2009, -0/+5My husband, stepmother and grandmother are British, and I can say without question that British is not American or Canadian. The Brits have a completely unique culture and cuisine. We seem to forget this in North America, which explains why we are confused by their enjoyment of things like pork pies and blood pudding.
- Gizza, on 01/21/2009, -0/+5That's like going to maccas and getting a diet coke with your meal.
- Gizza, on 01/21/2009, -0/+5Lots of European countries still have a royal family. In most cases they're nothing more than for show though.
- BN2L, on 01/21/2009, -0/+5Ok i'm British I know the exact people this article is talking about.... self concious women. Don't try and tell me things are any different in your respective countries.
- ScottMitchell, on 01/21/2009, -0/+4I'm sure that they're doing a horrid job of cooking it. Boiled spinach by itself is a bit harsh. But puree it, throw in some cheese and you have palak paneer, a very tasty Indian dish. And a lot of Korean dishes have spinach tastefully blended into it, such as bi bim bop.
- mkmega, on 01/21/2009, -1/+5Maybe if people had not forgotten to cook for themselves they would not rely so much on pre-packaged foods. Yes, if you try to lead a healthy food lifestyle and have no ***** clue on how to cook for yourself....well, then have fun eating an unseasoned and small variety of foods.
Learn how to cook! - nowhereelse, on 01/21/2009, -0/+4*****.
- DeathJux, on 01/21/2009, -0/+4I'm an American living in New Zealand (Lyttelton, in Christchurch, to be specific) and there is so much locally grown awesome food/produce that I'm in cheap, healthy food heaven.
This place is awesome. - Jacare, on 01/21/2009, -0/+4liver is the most nutritious part of an animal, and it tastes great, as do many other organs once you get past the initial squeamishness.
- AlekNovi, on 01/21/2009, -1/+5Except its not even that. An ideal perfect diet (assuming a special robot measured and served exactly what you should eat at exact moments), would only give you maybe 2 more years of life... Above a good-behaviour "free-diet".
What people often don't hear about is that 99% of physical health comes from your weight and physical (cardiovascular fitness, i.e. exercise). Only 1% comes from the other details.
Corporations and the media rely on making the details the big thing, so they can sell you more stuff. They make the 99% details important and make stories on them.
As for the weight, if you remove bad eating (behavioural, not types of foods) habits from people (eating on the go, eating while watchin tv, emotional and boredom eating, eating out of habit (not hunger), etc... You get people to a healthy weight. Excess weight comes from overeating, period. not from overeating "bad foods". For example in japan people are taught to PHYSICALLY push themselves away from the table the MOMENT they start feeling like they might be starting to get satiated... (about 80% full). In western cultures people eat until they've finished whatever quantity they took.
When you teach westerners this habit (obese and overweight westerners), they end up losing all the excess weight and reaching a healthy weight. (yes, it is that simple).
Free Diet = Eat whatever you want, when you want, assuming you remove bad habits
Free diet + Exercise = 99% of "ideal" nutrition results. - TheSeeker11, on 01/21/2009, -1/+5"Kippers for breakfast? Is it St. Swivens Day already?"
- Jacare, on 01/21/2009, -0/+4theres a ***** load of lamb, deer and fish in newzealand not to mention they grow practically every vegetable/fruit in existence, for ***** sake my cousin has an orchard in his backyard!(near kerikeri) and so do all the neighbors. there's so many ***** oranges its ridiculous. new zealand is a cheap fruit and veg utopia (your beef is ***** terrible tho). and you don't have to tip in restaurants.
- kashk5, on 01/21/2009, -0/+4Plus, sushi is delicious
- inactive, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3:)
Cant beat a proper sunday roast, or a full English breakfast
Im in Sydney and I miss English food loads, although the food here is generally pretty good especially if you like Thai, Korean or Chinese - hazello, on 01/21/2009, -1/+4I've discovered this amazing diet that makes you healthy...
eat lots of vegetables, fruit, grains and nuts. A bit of dairy and no meat.
Shocking! Someone give me $20 million and I'll 'study' it for a while. - darkhero, on 01/21/2009, -2/+5"A poll found that millions of us eat liver, lentils and even Marmite, despite hating their flavour, in the hope of enjoying health benefits. "
I eat goat liver almost every morning. It is a good source of protein. - snaglepuss, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3Who eats flax seed?
- coopa, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3I'm English and my diet is awful. I eat almost no fruit, but i do love veg...but then i still can't really stomach fish.
I should try avocados again now you all mention it... -
