- Zuljin, on 11/26/2008, -24/+103This guy is an idiot, and those of you that agree with him are as well. People with HIV who choose to have sex are murderers. This is to save lives.
- inactive, on 11/25/2008, -18/+74Spend the money on aids research. Of course that won't happen; diabetes sufferers are also going to be tagged in the west. Before long we'll all be tagged. ***** them.
- highlymodified, on 11/25/2008, -18/+69It's like the concentration camp tattoos, except infinitely more convenient for the oppressors...and so the tagged can FEEL themselves marked at all times instead of only seeing it.
Not cool. Thumbs down on Indonesia. - Falldog, on 11/26/2008, -5/+46Original: http://www.reuters.com/article/healthNews/idUSTRE4 ...
No need for Gizmodo blogspam. - booksnmore4you, on 11/25/2008, -2/+39Like lepers of old.
- doctechnical, on 11/26/2008, -4/+40Wouldn't it just be cheaper (as well as a heck of a lot easier to spot) to just tattoo a big red "A" on the foreheads of people with AIDS?
- nullcodes, on 11/26/2008, -1/+32Any HIV positive person who is aware they have it and intentionally has sex with another person without informing them of the danger should minimally guilty of reckless endangerment, but more likely attempted murder, negligent homicide, or murder if the person dies .. no way around it.
- Mittens27, on 11/26/2008, -7/+35Wow, bias much? Say this is a bad idea when some chick has sex with you and then two weeks later you find out she had AIDS.
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -1/+28If ***** are going about having sex with people when they have aids, they should be locked up.
- commentposted, on 11/26/2008, -14/+41Is it wrong to think that this is actually a really good idea? What difference will it make besides holding people accountable for their actions?
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -6/+30Exactly; If you prevent people with AIDS from having sex for long enough, pouring billions of dollars into research for a cure wont be needed.
- Tyrghast, on 11/26/2008, -0/+23Diabetes isn't communicable, so wtf?
- Tyrghast, on 11/26/2008, -2/+25Wow, a reference to classic literature on digg, I thought I would never see the day...
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -1/+23The key difference here is that in this chip is not used for tracking and punishing diabetic people. In Indonesia they want to do just that. It's not for helping.
- Sonixunite, on 11/26/2008, -4/+23Sometimes the cruel and inhumane option is the most effective way to contain it.
- kalvinb, on 11/26/2008, -2/+20I think we just need to start charging people who have AIDS who infect others with some level of murder or assult.
If people who had AIDS stopped having sex it would be eradicated in a generation.
It's not an epidemic. It's a symptom of people acting like they have a "right" to sex no matter how much damage they will do. - byukid, on 11/26/2008, -3/+20I dunno, I'm kinda mixed on this. Like, I'd definitely want to know if a person I was going to have sex with had AIDs, but I'd much rather them just have to tell me than being tracked like this. They're people and deserve rights, not to be tagged like some animal.
If you think about it, wouldn't a person who had AIDs and gave them to someone else be guilty of murder? It's a weird, complex thing I guess to think about.
It's a scary world any way you look at it. - GeyserShitdick, on 11/26/2008, -3/+20You gotta admit, though; those ***** ***** diabetics have it coming.
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -2/+19slippery slope?
Lets remember that a slippery slope is not a logical argument. We are talking about an isolated anomalous case of rampantly spread aids because some people who have already gotten it are in denial about the fact that they can kill people through sex.
The slippery slope…
Tagging AIDS infected people with rfid…
…tomorrow the king of the world tags everyone on the planet with gps chips and strictly enforces late-life-eugenics.
Does anyone see a gap in this argument? - LocalDocal, on 11/26/2008, -2/+19Did you read the article? The chips are put on people for the purpose of punishing them if they infect a healthy person. In other words, the punishment is not in getting it, it's in giving it.
And hell, I agree with it. AIDS is currently ranked as one of the top diseases in the world and to get it is to receive a death sentence. Anyone who willingly infects another person with it should be punished. - angelgabe, on 11/26/2008, -2/+19The top 500 didn't get there by donating money to humanitarian efforts.
- nullcodes, on 11/26/2008, -0/+15Any HIV positive person who is either aware they have it or strongly suspect it and intentionally has sex with another person should minimally guilty of reckless endangerment, but more likely attempted murder, negligent homicide, or murder if the person dies .. no way around it.
- aolshove, on 11/26/2008, -0/+14Hospital: We regret to inform you that your new kidney was contaminated with a strain of HIV. Please report to our tagging department. Thank you for your cooperation.
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -1/+15Having unprotected sex: An inherent human desire.
Killing other humans: Not. - jojopumpkin, on 11/26/2008, -9/+23Used in diabetics also here in the U.S.
http://digg.com/world_news/VeriChip_now_chipping_d ... - inactive, on 11/26/2008, -2/+15It holds them accountable if they spread the virus.
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -0/+13then she deserves to be put in jail for attempted murder. or negligent homocide.
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -2/+14If AIDS is wiped out, AIDS isn't coming backs, and the cure for AIDS would not be needed. There will always be a new 'plague', but the cure won't be the same.
- limerope, on 11/26/2008, -1/+13Personally, I think this will lead to even worse problems:
What of the person who contracts HIV and avoids the medical establishment, and thus never finds out they have HIV until it is way too late? Are the authorities omniscient enough to tag this not-so-hypothetical individual?
This not-so-hypothetical "scans clean" and so goes on to infect many others, who all have the potential of repeating exactly the same scenario.
Chipping people only helps detect the people who you already know are sick. It doesn't help with the unknowns. - omjeremy, on 11/26/2008, -1/+13If everyone who had AIDS/HIV stopped passing along the disease it would cease to exist. It's not like it's created by a bacteria. I'm not trying to judge people about why they contracted it as there are many different ways to do so, but if someone has AIDS/HIV there should be precautions from having them spread it to others.

I was lipping off to my English teacher about how worthless her class in general and the Scarlet Letter in particular were, and she defended teaching the book because it was "classic literature", and who knows when I will be in a social position where understanding references to classic literature may be important?
At the time, I thought this argument was a load of *****, but now, catching doctechnical's reference made me feel a comfortable smugness about my own intelligence, and convinced that all the time wasted reading that book and filling out all the worksheets and writing the essays were totally worth it. - subliminalurge, on 11/26/2008, -3/+14Exactly.
Personally, I don't think this goes far enough. Anyone who is HIV positive should be quarantined.
Set them up on a nice tropical island somewhere, and provide them with a nice, comfortable life, but keep them away from even the possibility of spreading it. - Hetman, on 11/26/2008, -6/+17"Everyone has AIDS!
My grandma and my dog 'ol blue (AIDS AIDS AIDS)
The pope has got it and so do you (AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS)
C'mon everybody we got quilting to do (AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS)
We gotta break down these baricades, everyone has
AIDS!" TA - andyb747, on 11/26/2008, -0/+11What I got from this article is that Indonesia has a lot of people that know they have the virus and continue to be sexually active as to purposely infect others. If this is the case what should the authorities do?
Does it not piss everyone off when someone has a flu and they refuse to stay home and insist on coming into the work.
Luckily, we know when someone has the flu. - eastwood24, on 11/26/2008, -6/+17probably the slippery slope where this could lead
- xXSheepyXx, on 11/26/2008, -7/+17"Hmm how can we get everyone to have RFID chips.....give em Aids!"
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -7/+17What I don't get is why they don't spend all the money for the chips and tracking system (plus all the bureaucracy) in buying friggin' condoms and educating the population. No, instead, some moron thinks that is better to try to control and punish all the people infected (as if they knew who the hell is actually infected and who is not).
***** retards. - inactive, on 11/26/2008, -0/+10I propose the number six hundred and sixty six for the tattoo design.
- spyd3rweb, on 11/26/2008, -14/+24People without HIV can be murderers too, we therefore must implant rfid chips in everyone.
- Codename, on 11/26/2008, -4/+14The other soultion: Condoms
- ruarctb, on 11/26/2008, -1/+11They don't have a right to spread a fatal disease.
- Tyrghast, on 11/26/2008, -0/+9It's okay guys! Big Brother to the rescue!
- burketo, on 11/26/2008, -0/+9you can't bank on a microchip saving your life either...
- TheMachine1, on 11/26/2008, -1/+10I heard in the old days if you got a STD a doctor would put potassium permanganate solution on your penis to temporarily stain it a color (purple or brown I think). That would warn others you were infected. They claimed it was part of the treatment process. Now if "Big Brother" was slick like he was then he would claim those RFID chips released medication. But I guess since the idea is nearly useless at preventing HIV transmission its really about calming the fears of a few out of control insane politicians.
- spriggig, on 11/26/2008, -6/+15This is a fear driven policy. Fear only fear.
“Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” - crzdmn, on 11/26/2008, -1/+9Statistically speaking condoms only protect against diseases SOMETIMES depending on proper use, production defects, breakage, fluid discharge etc.
Sorry to rain on your parade but since you sound like one of those idiots who thinks their safe as long as they have a rubber you might want to go get tested before you spread something.
http://www.cdc.gov/condomeffectiveness/latex.htm - Paranor01, on 11/26/2008, -4/+12and what? take away from their profit margin?
yeah right - inactive, on 11/26/2008, -2/+10In a lot of states, they are guilty.
That doesnt take away the AIDS they spread though. - RumpleForeskin3, on 11/26/2008, -1/+9Good.
I don't want AIDS - inactive, on 11/26/2008, -1/+8Virgins are very low-risk.
