- zodo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13If God didn't want us to eat animals, why'd he make them out of meat?
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Internet annoyances:
1.) Confusion of " your " and " you're " - DiggidtyDog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"If you don't eat your meat,you can't have any pudding!!"
- dpk87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Am I the only one who thought that the bacteria was always in there and was simply killed when the meat was cooked?
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"That virus is HORRIBLE"
E.coli is not a virus it is a bacteria that is necessary for the proper digestion of food, and we all have it living in our gut.
It's actually quite useful, the harm in it is that viruses like to use E. coli as a host to multiply and infect humans. - CiXeL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5its not a slightly mutated strain. each animal including humans have a different strain of e.coli in their intestinal tract. so basically the meat was contaminated with some cow feces containing a variety of e.coli incompatible with your intestinal tract and not evolved to reside in human beings. thats what make you ill.
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8"Confusion of " your " and " you're ""
your probably right - dpk87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Don't forget to document it, and have your family submit it to digg.
- herrshuster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4hmm...wonder if I got any *cough* AAKKK!....*slumps over on keyboard* thanks for telling me
- ummagummas08, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4OMFG I work in a Buffet restaurant in GA! And I just had a hamburger yesterday! ***** im going to die.
- WocEnasni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yes, e-coli is naturally occurring and helps with digestion, but its a slightly mutated strain that contaminates food and makes you sick, not viruses piggy backing on it
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Philosophical arguments aside, every time I see headlines like this, it makes me glad that I don't have to worry about it. Woo!
- opticwind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think I speak for all of Georgia (myself included) when I say...
Son of a bitch. - CiXeL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3thats nothing. wait for the madcow paranoia to hit when inevitably a few will die in the US
- WocEnasni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the only problem I have is that how useful is a recall like this is. most of that meat has probably been eaten or will be eaten before people even find out about it.
- MasterGrief, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Heh, if it was E. Coli you had, you'd be more like "wonder if I got any *nasty fart* OH GODAHHHGG....*falls out of chair*"
That virus is HORRIBLE. - Justice101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I see I'm in the minority who like to cook their meat well... :(
- crash331, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, I'm about 40 miles from Chattanooga, so this is not good.
- ulmedas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Shouldn't be too far from the Mad Cow paranoia...see this article from the other day...
http://digg.com/health/Beef_Producers_Not_Allowed_to_Test_for_Mad_Cow - IpodCrazy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm a resident of Chattanooga, TN. It would be nice for us to be mentioned for something good. We were on CNN (YES) for the 911 incident (NO), now, we're known globally(YES) for ground beef with possible traces of E. coli (damn.......). When will our time come???
- denjin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So how do they get e coli in ground beef? Don't they need to get cross-contamination with feces for this to happen?
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Great, I live in Georgia too and I'm sure I had some beef in the past few days. Why can't E. Coli leave us alone? First is it was the whole white water E. Coli thing about a decade ago (which I managed to be at the waterpark that day and escape unscathed) and now the beef...
- sevenhelmets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2...and the rest of the world looks on
- ClassicJBC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Plants don't have a nervous system. It's a simple argument, really. A lot of vegans don't believe we have a right to consciously make animals suffer. Maybe some animals would suffer in the wild, but some wouldn't. We cannot control what other things and animals do sometimes, but each of us does have the capacity to make what we believe to be moral choices. Veganism is the only moral choice for me, and while I wish more people would be vegan, I don't see any reason to be elitest about it.
The big concern with beef these days isn't e. coli; it's mad cow. A significant percentage of deceased Alzheimer's patients in this country are being autopsied to discover they did not, in fact, have Alzeheimer's, but rather Creutzfeld-Jacob disease. The prionic bacteria that causes it essentially cannot be cooked or destroyed, and the disease is 100% fatal. Scary stuff. - Karyyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mmmm...intestines.
Just remember to cook it well-done, and you'll be fine. I need my steaks medium to medium rare, but ground beef, that I can live with. - negativenancy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2mmmm..... E. coli
- ezalis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought those cows out there looked funny, but seriously this is scary since I live in Chattanooga, TN
- Ental, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Guess what I had for dinner!!!! It should be no problem if you just cook the meat at a high enough temperature.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1youre a ***** idiot if you didnt get the joke.
- Comsamvimes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think if it's cooked properly (fully, not pink), you're probably going to be fine. Though considering it's from a buffet restaurant, you're probably screwed.
- Narpas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was thinking the same thing... Get it medium rare or more, and poof to the sickness
- smoaky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do you guys really cook your meat until its no longer pink? I eat mine medium rare usually, steak, ground beef etc. I find it tastes dry and not as juicy when you cook it all the way through. Would you rather eat sub par burgers your whole life to avoid some disease that you will probably not get anyway. BTW, the more you cook meat, the more carcinogens (spell) it has in it. I just try to buy my ground beef from some place like whole foods, hopefully its not from the same dirty factory warehouses that this hormone laden gb is coming from.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He made them out of meat because making them out of adamantium would have really put a strain on the whole survival of humans thing.
- JED9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@ zodo
that is probably one of the most rediculously stupid things i have ever heard.... - gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24337 translated into normal letters = aeet
aeet when pronounced sounds like "aight"
aight happens to be slang for "alright"
so this is all OK, right? - bornhj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Not to go out on a limb, but many non-American diggers don't know what "Ga." and "Tenn." stand for. Is it really that difficult to write out the full state names? And if you're feeling really generous, maybe throw "USA" in there? Thanks :)
- postapoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A digg obituary section would be killer
- bonked, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Chatt-a-vegas here too - mmm... pizza rolls
- triumphdog1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats kinda freaky... I actually live in Chattanooga
- MasterGrief, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4While I don't agree with eating meat being "murder" because so many other creatures on the planet eat meat as well, I can agree with it being unhealthy. It's not always BAD for you, but it's rarely really good.
- postapoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1most plants evolutionary purpose is to be eaten.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2And the difference between VeganG and dotism? ... (this is a tough one)
dotism sounds like an elitist prick. get off your high horse. - Dionysus352, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0E. Coli exists on the out side of meat. Steaks, chops and other non-ground products are safe cooked to rare (140F). Hamburgers are safe at medium (160F).
- WocEnasni, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I never understood why people get so upset about "murdering" animals. They'll all die eventually, and if it isn't in a slaughterhouse it will be out in a field after suffering and getting eaten by some other animal. Either way they'll end up dead, might as well make it quick and useful for us
- Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5So you think it's better to eat plants? Plants are alive too. Moreover, unless you're eating rotten plants, the plant is still alive *when you are taking a bite out of it.*
If meat is murder, then eating vegetables is analogous to biting into a living cow. Get off your high horse and recognize your place in the food chain. (Your place, by the way, is not to be eaten by anything else until after you're dead, at which point you'll be consumed by worms, maggots, bacteria and whatnot.) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Basically, yeah. It could happen in any number of ways, but it seems to indicate unsanitary conditions at the packing/processing plant. Maybe they ground up a section of cow intestine with the beef or something.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, I suppose that's ok if you're happy to eat feces in your beef.
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1your probably right.
- JED9, on 10/12/2007, -18/+2good thing i dont eat meat. meat is murder. and unhealthy.

What is Digg?
