- Masterful1, on 06/26/2009, -0/+24the brain is so awesome, it takes a split second to recognize the unknown device you just jacked in and locates the drivers.
- tj111, on 06/26/2009, -0/+10Ok, I'm grasping my tool. Now what?
- m0rph, on 06/26/2009, -0/+9My brain's Plug 'n' Play!
- feelmypimphand, on 06/26/2009, -1/+10Grasping a tool that does not belong to you may cause blindness
- Ascus, on 06/26/2009, -1/+7I am real surprised this is news. Learning to use any tool you integrate into your person. When You drive a car for a while, you don't thing about turning the wheel to turn, you mentally turn the car and the arms work for you to make it happen. Moving a mouse pointer on the screen works the same way, you don't think about moving the mouse, you move the pointer. This is one of reason tele-presence will be so much fun.
- SuicideMouse, on 06/26/2009, -0/+5I really like the toothbrush example. It shows that not only does you brain knows the size of the toothbrush but also where the actual brush is located on it. While reading this I started thinking about swords and some of the amazing movement and coordination required to not only hurt yourself but to also attack someone else. When you watch someone experienced with a sword use one it really does look like it's just part of their arm.
Then I started thinking about video game controllers. With a study showing that physical tools temporarily change our brains, wouldn't games do the same? Our brains are amazing. - Scrappy1850, on 06/26/2009, -2/+6try it... you might like it
- rikwakefield, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3....when the dude punches you in the face.
- damnshoes, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3What happens to my brain when I get brain freeze?!
- skyrunner30, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3It is caused by having something cold touch the roof of the mouth (palate), and is believed to result from a nerve response causing rapid dilation and swelling of blood vessels.
- seeanimal, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3Obvious, yes. But scientifically observing something so intuitive is news. It may lead to being able to see how the mechanics of the brain and something as abstract as body-identity interact.
- edd17, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2no, you usually just get something in your eye a while later
- endgame, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2This study brought to by : Craftsman
- Majora26, on 06/27/2009, -0/+1I hate it when i pick up new stuff and im not on a wifi network so i cant figure out what it is, how big it is, or how to use it.
- apickle, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1I was going to make this joke, I guess it was silly to assume someone hadn't already. Oh well.
ba-DUM! "New Hardware Found!" - silverchrysalis, on 06/26/2009, -2/+3Obvious article, Forbes lame website, bad headline...
- marktastic, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Strangely, it can only focus on one dimensional movement.
- AMD64MM, on 06/26/2009, -1/+2Very interesting read. Makes sense though.
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Now that I know this, everything has changed!
- skyrunner30, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Obvious! But in the animal kingdom....this same concept is amazing to us.
- navidb, on 06/26/2009, -1/+1Reminds me of Moe's "Crayola-oblongata" to Homer.
- duewydo, on 06/26/2009, -3/+3I wonder how my mind would perceive me grabbing my man "tool".
- seeanimal, on 06/26/2009, -1/+1The link at the bottom's an interesting article too:
http://www.forbes.com/2009/06/18/singularity-insti ... - Gmadd, on 06/26/2009, -1/+1This is probably why I always trip walking up/down stairs. I need to visualize the win!
- cunningcoder, on 06/27/2009, -0/+0This is why I hold the controller differently for Bumper Jumper than Green Thumb
- zaphodchak, on 06/27/2009, -0/+0Like a Kingon bat'leth: think of it as an extension of your arm.
- evetsleep, on 06/26/2009, -2/+2this article has 'that's what she said' written all over it.
- DarkProd, on 06/26/2009, -2/+250% of the comments will probably be ***** jokes because the title said "Tool".
- KnightedIbis, on 06/26/2009, -3/+0How different this article would be recieved if it was instead titled: "Change Your Brain, Grab a Tool."
- urem, on 06/26/2009, -6/+2lol
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -8/+3Stupid generic grabbing my "tool" remark.
