- OneHine, on 10/10/2007, -13/+151As the joke goes, it's a vagina, not a clown car!
- lukas88, on 10/10/2007, -10/+79This is the basis of the movie idiocracy, and at least for the intro, it was very entertaining.
Here, I found it on youtube http://youtube.com/watch?v=fAYnc_-ddlw - sensoukami, on 10/10/2007, -34/+91I'm an aethiest, and I got to say the author is a total *****....His assumption that children in large families are neglected is just plain stupid too. I've know (Catholics) from families of 10 or 12 kids, and they were all pretty well adjusted human beings.
If I hadn't postponed having kids so late (well...late for my wife...not for me), and was better off financially I'd love to have 10 or more kids. Kids rock. It'd be a blast. - siszam, on 10/10/2007, -48/+103It's none of you business how many children these people have. They are debt free and take care of themselves. Do you want someone telling you that you must have sixteen children or how to exercise your beliefs? No? Then don't tell others how many children to have and how to live.
- lukas88, on 10/10/2007, -28/+74I can see what you mean by "hateful and arrogant." The main evidence that the author uses to make them sound like ignorant people (besides having 16 kids, which doesn't imply anything by itself) is this:
-They don't wear designer jeans
-They have sub-standard haircuts
-The father's name is Jim Bob
-They are religious
If that is the criteria you use to judge people, you are much more ignorant than the characters you are trying to portray.
As for whether having 16 kids makes you ignorant or not, I would rather have 16 people with a decent amount of respect for others than one person like the author of this article. It is people like him that make the world seem crowded, no one wants to be near people like that. - addrake, on 10/10/2007, -12/+47Mark Moford (The author) is a colossal prick. Read his other *****.
- mntbikeracer1, on 10/10/2007, -16/+48Not nearly as bad as those idiotic families that have 4 kids when they really cannot afford to have one.
- xerus, on 10/10/2007, -6/+37Thats it, you're all disqualified from being decent.
- Urzeitlich, on 10/10/2007, -15/+46What a poorly written article. I couldn't even read the author's mindless drivel.
"And furthermore, who are you to suggest that her equally troubling husband -- whose name is, of course, Jim Bob and he's hankerin' to be a Republican senator and try not to wince in sociopolitical pain when you say that -- isn't more than a little numb to the real world, and that bringing 16 hungry mewling attention-deprived kids (and she wants more! Yay!) into this exhausted world zips right by "touching" and races right past "disturbing" and lurches its way, heaving and gasping and sweating from the karmic armpits, straight into "Oh my God, what the hell is wrong with you people?""
THAT'S ONE SENTENCE. - DFrag, on 10/10/2007, -35/+60These days no one is even trying to hide their bigotry and hate toward religion, family and morality on digg. Digg has become an outright hate site. What a shame.
Since when did God appoint the submitter to be His official spokesperson? - mc7winkie, on 10/10/2007, -17/+42I come from a family of 12 and I hate people who try and blame societies problems on large families for whatever reason. They say we contribute to over population and have even heard people say we are polluting more than other families and other such awful things. People who say these kind of things are the real problems with society, I will go on the record and say that my family is far less wasteful and far more down to earth than many other families that I have met in my area. People with this kind of bias need to really just shove it and stop being so ignorant and just leave people alone. If two parents want to have 12 kids, can support them, raise them well, and have them be more respectful than the pricks who right this garbage then I think there should be more families like that.
- Bhima, on 10/10/2007, -33/+57Having 16 children pretty much disqualifies anyone from being called decent.
Perhaps the number of people who have the number of children they can actually care for somehow neutralizes the crime against humanity described in the article - Aticper, on 10/10/2007, -9/+25It is physically impossible for one mother to give proper attention to sixteen kids. Assuming she devoted her every waking hour to spending time with them, each would only have less than an hour of time with their mother.
That is no way to raise a child. - Wavicle, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19You think we have problems with social security now? It's a good thing someone is having 16 kids to provide the economic basis for what social security you will collect. Popping out 16 productive citizens is NOT a problem. Their paternal role model is a successful businessman and a former member of the Arkansas state legislature. What the hell makes you think these kids are going to be a net drain on society?
- alamojob, on 10/10/2007, -8/+24You know statistically one or two of these kids is going to be gay. That will make these people crazy!
- NickHodges, on 10/10/2007, -14/+30You are so right -- what an obnoxious article full of rudeness, insults and sanctimony. Could there be anything more arrogant than trying to tell someone how many kids they should have?
Run your own life and let the Duggars run theres. - adamkhel, on 10/10/2007, -9/+23Half an hour a day with each kid? You're an idiot and you have no idea how families work. In larger families (hell, even in some small ones), the older siblings tend to take on a parental role also.
This article is full of crap and extremely hateful. There are countless people with 1-2 kids and their kids are plain out ***** and wouldn't even have the discipline to TAKE A FAMILY photo as shown in the article. - xadhominemx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15My 44 year-old aunt has had 9 pregnancies, 8 kids, and is pregnant again. When my parents (who have given the family loads of money through free loans and jobs that we don't really need [he's a cabinet builder]) asked her husband (my dad's brother) if he thought if it was such a good idea to have more kids that he couldn't afford 5 years and 3 kids ago, he said that they (my secular parents) could never understand what God wanted him to do because they didn't attend Catholic Mass.
Meanwhile, all the kids are home schooled because they couldn't be exposed to the corrupting forces present in "Lib classrooms" and are consequently 3-4 years behind their grade levels and mostly socially inept. Ahhhhhhh - NickHodges, on 10/10/2007, -7/+21You can say what you like. But I can think you are obnoxious for saying it. And I do. If those folks want to have 16 kids, what business is it of yours? None, that's what business it is of yours. Especially considering it looks like these folks are fine, responsible citizens every one of them.
- kathaclysm, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17Thank gawd someone wrote an appropriate counterpoint. No doubt many ignorant readers will dig you down for it.
I almost doubt the person who wrote the original article watched any of the episodes with the Dugger family on TLC, it may seem crazy that they have that many kids but;
They are all well cared for.
They all seem fairly well behaved.
The oldest is VERY articulate & smart for a 17-year-old.
There is much to be said for the older children learning by teaching the younger ones (more schools should be set up that way)
The whole family has no debt; nobody's on welfare & I believe all the kids have college money waiting for them.
They took all the kids on a road-trip cross country in 1 van & 1 pre-owned mobile-home & there was little complaining.
And they all pitched in to build their own house.
I'm sorry, but even as an anti-religious person who doesn't agree with their reasons for having that many children, I do respect them quite a bit from all I've seen of them. I'd hope to raise one kid as well as any of their brood have turned out.
I'm sure there are many people out there who shouldn't reproduce at all, but from all I've seen, the Duggers really aren't the ones to pick on. - bepo, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Actually, all 16 are home schooled, but they still pay school tax. In essence they are helping public education. Would you care to share any more of your sharp insight into the subject?
- UltraMegaFilms, on 10/10/2007, -22/+35@DFrag: No offense buddy, but religion is a choice. I would prefer people judge others based on character decisions like religion as opposed to unchosen traits like race and sexuality. Just because you love God doesn't mean I owe you or your "God" any more respect than the next assclown. And to beat the horse from the other end, I dont think anyone would have a problem finding evidence of hatred and bigotry coming from the religious and family values oriented crowd.
- mewho, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14I come from a large family. There are so many children in this country that need to be adopted, but the government told my family that we couldn't adopt because 3 kids was too many. So my parents had kids biologically and adopted from overseas. My parents planned for every one of us. We are all educated and mentally healthy. I can not tell you how many time sanctimonious jerks stopped us at the grocery store/library/mall to scream at my parents that they were horrible people for bringing so many children in to the world. It's not your business.
- arbulus, on 10/10/2007, -16/+28but why have that many children?
i understand people don't want to use contraception and whatnot, and claim their beliefs compel them to have so many kids, but really, what good is it? if you want 16 children, go to a ***** orphanage and find 16 kids who live in ***** conditions and desparately need a home. there are so many abandoned children out there who need someone, why add more?
beside that, there are 6 billion people on this planet. The human race is straining this planet to the breaking point. We are in no danger of extinction. we have no need to so vigorously propagate the human race. - silverchrysalis, on 10/10/2007, -24/+36that author is incredibly jaded and hateful. hopefully he will do the world a favor and not breed more nasties like himself.
there are many muslim families who have numerous children and i don't hear anyone screaming about them. - bepo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13As I mentioned before, they are home schooled. So that blows the 'strain on public education' attack.
- otatop, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11The joke behind "Vagina: It's not a clown car" is that giving birth to 16 kids is disturbingly similar to a bunch of clowns coming out of a tiny car. It has nothing to do with sex or who fathered the children. Christ.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -9/+20God might not like it but the church sure does.
- ibookfast, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13do not confuse quantity with quality.
- bepo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11They are home schooled.
- merreborn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I'd love to take the concept of that film addressed by a competent sci-fi writer.
The concept was great, some of the jokes were hilarious, but overall, it wasn't that great of a story, or movie. - merreborn, on 10/10/2007, -13/+231807 headline: Any man who fathers more than 12 children is doing the lord's work!
2007 headline: Any man who fathers more than 2 children is an ignorant, selfish idiot!
There are some sound arguments for slowing down on the breeding in this day and age, but this article is mostly composed of stereotypical, uninsightful vitriol. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Yeah. It could have been MUCH better, but it was still a good film.
- Modulo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13Oh no, he said something mean spirited about the people that made the insanely irresponsible decision to have far more children than any couple could ever REAR properly. NOT being rude to people that do incredibly stupid things is almost as bad as doing the incredibly stupid thing yourself.
- mc7winkie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8No, when you come from a large family every dollar counts and you need to make sure that you aren't being wasteful with your money. Though I'm sure when you have two kids it's a lot easier to buy each one of them a car and computer and phone, but in a larger family those are seen as unnecessary luxuries for the most part.
- djvchris, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14Well that was quite the articulate counterpoint. I actually thought his post was an intelligent and accurate critique of the article.
But, we all know that a vague personal attack is the true zenith of debate, right? - jiltjouster, on 10/10/2007, -9/+16I am not sure what this article is. I wish I could say something constructive of it. It's not news; it's not editorial; it's not satire; it's not entertaining. It is not novel. The only interesting aspect of it is the event that the author then uses to abuse and mock the very thing that give the article any redeeming interest: 16 kids.
It is mean. It is spiteful. - Duston, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Your talking in circles man. You don't want any kids fine, your choice. You say 16 is excessive for some one else. Who gets to decide, you? The Government?
If you noticed, they did pick up the educational tab as they were home schooled. The tax system in the US is based on income, the more you make the more you pay. Your argument holds as much water as, why should I pay the same use tax on my little Toyota pickup as some one who buys much heavier vehicle? or who drives farther to work (thus creating more wear on the roads)
Basically I am saying STFU, I understand you don't want kids but lamenting a family who isn't costing you a dime is the selfish act. - takamalak, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9They probably all have scholarships to Liberty University already.
- MusicalGenius, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Too many people. This is why I get sick of digg...
Okay, I live in UTAH... Have YOU ever BEEN to UTAH little child? Yes, I'm being a dick...why? Because southern UTAH is so EMPTY and Texas is empty in large areas and we ALL know how bad Kansas is...
Point is.... we have VERY large living areas to build on and oceans which we disrespect and we allow oil companies to control the Earth and our lives. This planet is capable of TRILLIONS of people... Just not Trillions of ignorant fools who believe whatever they want....cause ignorance is what allows the idiots into power. Oil companies to ruin the planet like every other greedy power.
If we took care of the planet and build efficiently and grew the way we should be growing... then the planet could handle much much more. - catalysis, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10I agree with the general topic but damn "spotless white" wtf? I'm sure you can find other ethnicities with lots of kids.
- CybrMike, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9its mormons in utah dumbass
- jehoesefat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7What do you want to go to Starbucks for? We can get handjobs anytime!
- tsotha, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Read it again. That wasn't the Duggars.
- DoodleMaster, on 10/10/2007, -9/+15DAMN 16 kids!?! thats a lot of whoopie....oh and dugg for the article title "Arkansas mom gives birth to a whole freakin' baseball team."
- CaseyUCF, on 10/10/2007, -16/+22The world is overpopulated with people as it is.
- macguy815, on 10/10/2007, -7/+13The author just gives liberals a bad wrap. This article is just bait saying, "Oh Fox News, PLEASE use me as a reason to make your viewers hate anything and everything not conservative." It's amazing to think that only a century ago, it was common for families to have kids numbering in the double digits, granted that was because infant mortality rates were higher, and because you had to use your children for labor on the farm, as illegal immigrants weren't available to work for below minimum wages on the farm.
- basye, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Buried for being an unreadable rant.
- Speaking, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I have personally known MANY families with 7+ kids. Large families typically use materials very efficiently and have a much lower carbon footprint than 2 families of 4.
The majority of family's have had education as a VERY high priority and the kids end up getting major scholarships for school.
Except in situations were I have seen a huge gap in ages (first 3 born 7 years before last 4) the kids are close knit and really enjoy their families (this tend to strengthen as kids get older).
Look at a lot of our grandparents, coming from families of 10-12 wasn't that uncommon, and I have never talked to an elderly person who was like "I wish Timmy through Jill hadn't been born, those whores"
Over all, if it works, it works, lets get our noses out of other people's business. I've met more screwed up, narcissistic only children than adults who grew up in large family's. After all it isn't size that matters, it's how you use it. - gbro, on 10/10/2007, -9/+15Been around the world and found
